Toyo Tires® and Ford Racing Performance Parts
Announce 2005 Ford Mustang GT Drift Car with Driver Ken Gushi

Toyo Tires® and Ford Racing Performance Parts announce their all new 2005 Ford Mustang GT drift car equipped with Toyo Proxes T1-S™ ultra-high performance radials in 255/45R18 front and 285/40R18 rear sizes. Piloting this exciting new Mustang is 18-year-old Ken Gushi, a rising young star in the sport of Drifting.

The white Mustang features a GT-R themed body kit that includes front and rear fascias, rocker cover, quarters, a rear wing and blue competition stripes. The American muscle staccato and tire smoking horsepower will come from a 4.6-liter 4-valve V8 Supercharged Cobra “Terminator” engine with an anticipated 500+ rear wheel horsepower. Pumping massive quantities of air and fuel through the engine is a Ford Racing - Whipple Supercharger Upgrade Kit, a Cobra Air Meter and Clean Air Tube and a Magna Flow Cat-back Performance Exhaust System. Additional components include a 4.10 Ring & Pinion Upgrade Kit, Custom 2-piece Driveshaft and a Cobra “Terminator” 6-speed T-56 Manual Transmission. A full suspension treatment will be applied to this car, while interior components include Cobra R Recaro Racing Seats and a full complement of Ford Racing Gauges.

The 18-inch Cobra “R” chrome wheels will be shod with Proxes T1-S™ radials from Toyo Tires®. Toyo’s Proxes T1-S™ provides the ultimate in traction for street performance machines. Its DSOC II™ computer design technology ensures a quality performance product, while its aggressive tread design enhances the appearance of your car.

The newest member of Team Toyo Drift is Ken Gushi, who will be piloting this wild 2005 Ford Mustang GT. Gushi was born in Okinawa, Japan, but has spent much of his life in the U.S. At a young age, he had already won events such as the $10,000.00 Winner-Take-All International Drifting Shoot-Out during the Road & Track U.S. Sports Car Invitational. Gushi has enjoyed great media popularity having been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and several youth market and niche automotive publications. Look for Ken Gushi and his Toyo Tires® and Ford Racing Performance Parts 2005 Ford Mustang GT at a drifting event near you.

Sounds good. The new mustang certainly has the power for it. It handles alot better than the fox platform cars. I hope to see alot more US manufacturors getting into drifting.

Thats nice to see more and more cars in the drifting scene, but just imagine all the cocky mustang owners thinking they can drift like a pro......I also liked ken gushi's old car.....

You mean an embarrassment for the Japanese with their Corollas, right?

What a waste.

Chrysler already has been doing well with the Viper Drift Car, and they're planning to use the Crossfire Roadster next year.

GM also uses the Pontiac GTO.

America is really starting to test the waters of drifting here. First I seen that awesome Dodge Viper go sideways a lot, then a Crossfire Drift Car, the GTO drifter, and now I see this, the Mustang. The Mustang is an icon of American automobiles and for this to be in drifting, it won't tint that by a long shot. All I'm going to say is if they want to challenge DaimlerChrysler with their little baby, let Ford. This is really catching on here in the States. Whether or not it will be popular at the rate NASCAR has been over the past few years remains to be seen. But then, this will probably give it more exposure here. After all, if there aren't domestic cars with domestic drivers, you're going to be neglected or have very few fans (much like how many of us wish we get more sportscar racing action, but relegated to ovals and demolition derbys).

If this is what it's going to take to put drifting on the map here in the States, then I think this is going to work out very well. All it needs now is a little more exposure and seperation of fact from fiction.

And by the way, I think GilesGuthrie did the fact from fiction deal already. Top post on the front page. Good one, mate.

Looks great DG. I didnt even realize that color scheme was in the game. Yeah I really wish stripes down the hood was an option.

Well, three bigtime front/rear cars from America are involved in drifting. The awesome Dodge Viper is drifting, the Ford Mustang wants to get in on the fun, and the latest GTO has done some drifting. Do you think the latest Corvette would make a good drift car?

Absolutely. Im surprised they haven't already.

05 mustang hasn't road raced yet, there is no proof that it cannot. New chasis, new engine, only thing the same is solid rear axle I believe.

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

Thanks for the link! :embarrassed: Gives us a closer look at it!

And to Johnny! :embarrassed: I would love to see the Corvette try drifting! If its rival Viper is doing it, then the Vette better do it too...Don't want your bully to push you around like that! :)
