StarLight Garage presents the incredible beautiful Ford Torino King Cobra Prototype from 1970.
An astonish muscle car that was ready to go in production but didn't make it.
Maybe not in production but maybe in GT6 or GT7?
Back in the late ‘60s, NASCAR was gripped by the legendary “Aero Wars” that saw Ford and Chrysler duke it out with cars that for the first time didn’t look exactly like your dad’s new car. Big wings and sloped noses began to find themselves affixed to Chargers, Torinos, and Cyclones, which grew the fierce Ford vs. Chrysler rivalry to unprecedented levels and lead to the inception of the Torino King Cobra.
In fact the purpose of this project was to develop a car that could compete at NASCAR, but due to budget cut (by Lee Iacocca - Ford Company President ) and barred big engines it was after all cancelled.
Underneath the race-bred aero package, the hood hides massive high-power 429 V8 breathing through a Holley four-barrel carburator and backing up to a Toploader four-speed transmission that produces 700 horses. Aluminum dual lane intake, Holley 4-barrel.
Power is sent to a Ford 9-inch rear end and handling is delegated by the Torino’s stock double A-arm front suspension and heavy-duty leaf-sprung rear.
As a prototype it has a very well equipped interior, actually it uses most of standard Torino features.
There are only two units produced of this prototype.
