Eventually, it's supposed to replace the lolliman. I assume they're keeping him now while working on the system at first?

Surely that again defeats the point.
No, only if he spots a problem then he rejects launch and waits for it to get fixed. Actually I think thats how it works.

Off topic but still on topic:
People with Rfactor can download the F1RL09 mod from
http://www.f1ligue.com
Right now only the beta for physics is public. But you can see how they are doing with the graphics so far. I have the beta and comparing it to the 08 BMW F1 also in Rfactor they really do feel better at slower turns but sluggish at higher speeds. Only problem is exessive understeer. I have a flat track setup that I run full front wing and like 40% rear wing using camber and AR bar to keep the rear griping.

The problem with that is hes effectively doing the lollipop job. I believe the system is based on anticipation of everything going right. If I guy has to rule overall hes just doing the same job.

I just think its stupid to put resources into it. I don't see what it gains. Just another toy for them to use.

Someone said they gain .2 seconds when it is working properly. I think I heard it while watching a race on the Speed channel, but it may have been somewhere else. Don't know if its worth it.

.2 of a second or ruin your drivers races....hmmm

The thing about that it is, it's actually the FW30 (last years car) with the new livery. It's just an interim car, which also explains the shark gills which are illegal this year.

Doh, I see. I couldn't point my finger on it. But, comparing it to their earlier test car it makes sense.

Fore Inda VJM02 to Debut Sunday!

Taking their time, Force India will debut their new car before joining other teams for a test at the Jerez circuit. I have no clue how this thing will look. What do you think it will look like? Scuderia Torro Rosso have yet to unveil their car.

I was about to say wow thats earlier than expected because they said a launch of March....but then I realised its the 1st on Sunday,
Toro Rosso will probably be next week then, I'm assuming they're waiting for their chassis to be built/design around the Ferrari engine. I can't imagine them waiting any longer, valuable testing time is quickly disappearing.

The STR4 will be an RB5, essentially. Minor changes at the rear to account for differences between the Ferrari and Renault powerplants, but that should be it. The car will probably behave just like the RB5 too, so there's not much to test that can't be tried on the A-Squad car.

Really? I shall take you at your word... it will be interesting to see the difference in performance. Any predictions based on powerplants?

Well it's the same as last year, Ferrari may have up to 20bhp on the renault.

Renault were able to spec up their engines over the winter, so in theory they should have a competitive engine again.

But do they hae a competitive aero package? They're certainly the most striking design of the 2009 grid and they seem to think it will work, but I don't think we'll know for sure until Melbourne.

Uh it was more in reference to the RBR (Renault) v.s. STR (Ferrari) comment.

But yes, we won’t know anything until Melbourne. The Jerez test should give us a bit of an idea what’s going on though.

Lets not forget RBR, who will be also running said spec'd up engines, but have a car that looks more aero 'sound' than a box nosed Renault.

The boxy-nose is where things get tricky, as without a complete CFD simulation of the complete relevant structure - and the nose, being up front, affects the whole car - we have no idea how it works. Plenty of thoughts and ideas (and many of them negative), but no actual proof. My theory? The hollow underside of the nose, together with the low-reaching "skirts", acts as a diffuser - and a quick-and-dirty CFD run on F1Technical confirmed that this increases both drag and downforce - but again, no real idea.

Engine-wise? The Renault might have a negligible deficiency, or a negligible advantage - but not anywhere near the scale of last year's 20-30BHP deficit. As for RBR-vs-RF1, the engines will, obviously, be completely identical units...

Some newer pictures of Williams new livery, its a lot more blue and it looks far better. I like 👍

Is it just my imagination or is there two giant horns coming from either side of the cockpit??
I assume its just an easy system to lift the car, surely the new aero rules don't allow those?

No, you're right, there are some new fangled aero bits:

"The latest version of Williams’ FW31 machine also boasts unusual looking fins on either side of the cockpit. Dubbed ‘skate fins’ because of their resemblance to the flat fish, they are designed to improve airflow to the car’s narrower and taller 2009-spec rear wing."

ok but is williams going to be able to keep those things on the car through some loophole they found in the rules or are they going to go bye bye in a few days is what i would like to know.
