Just had a thought, probably a dumb one!
With the new rules limiting real track testing so much obviously computer systems have become much more important this year than ever before. So naturally enough the team with the most processors etc should be better able to develop their car throughout the season.
So heres my thought, rather than the top teams getting sponsorship from the likes of Intel and AMD and then getting buildings full of super computers, should the FOTA or FIA set up a type of cloud computing or distributed computing for the teams. I'd sign up to help some teams, along with cancer research of course!

Teams could compete for your favour, for your computer. It would lower the energy consumption from the teams computing simulators. And would make the fans feel much more involved.

Whats your thoughts?

Edit: (Thought I better post this here too) The first image of the new BrawnGP car:

Taken from here: http://www.f1technical.net/news/11736

"Today’s programme started with the controlled on-track draining of the tank to assess the effectiveness of MP4-24’s fuel collection. For the remainder of the day, the team worked on tuning the car’s set-up before the session ended prematurely at 15:30 when a sudden gust of wind swept Lewis Hamilton off the track and into a tyre barrier.

While the impact was only a mere 44km/h, the car went in rearwards, doing enough to dislodge the rear wing and lightly damage the car’s rear-end. With insufficient time to effect repairs before the end of the session, the team opted to finish early in order to commence preparations for next week’s four-day Barcelona test."

I don't remember this happening, at least in recent years. Could it be that the new aero regs make the cars too susceptible to cross winds??

The McLaren, of all cars? It's got one of the smallest engine-covers - if anything, the Red Bull should beware of cross-winds.

A sudden gust is quite common on such an on/off rainy day, and with some strong backwind, airflow around the wing can be slowed enough so as not to produce the necessary amount of downforce.

I doubt it just blew him off the track. :P

Probably just a contributing factor to an accident, nothing special IMO.

Found another pic. This one really shows that the car a better quality job I was expecting.

I like the sidepods especially!

Looks like Honda have finally been bought. By none other than Ross Brawn himself. I'm expecting them to score more than 14 points this time. Their new machine the BGP 001, and they've got a partnership with Mercedes-Benz. :odd: Also it turns out that Barrichello will still be racing rather than someone else, i.e. Bruno Senna. :irked:

Welcome to Friday's news!

Population: you.

1. Read the thread or perhaps the news more often.
2. We already knew they were going to use Mercedes engines for some time, in fact, for at least 4 or so weeks.
3. Senna wasn't ready anyway.

Not bad; I've always like Toro Rosso's purple scarlet and gold.

Anyway, the STR-4 is remarkably similar to to the RB5, especially the nose. Interesting that the sides of the Concorde Nose (my name for it) are raised higer than the rest of the nose, creating a little canyon-like groove there.

Otherwise, it seems in keeping with the designs of the other cars, and it certainly owes a lot to its parent team. But there's something about it that just doesn't look right; maybe it's the massive RED BULL logos on the sidepods. A completely cosmetic thing, but it really sticks out.

Wow, this thing looks so similar to the RB5 that you'd think it to be the actual RB5... Livery kicks ass though, and that engine cover is awesome!

Could that be because it is an RB5 but with a different name, engine and gearbox?

Then why don't you endow us with your boundless wisdom and knowledge, O Wise and Knowledgeable One!

We can be perfectly wrong in what we think, but there's no need to be an arsehole about what you think of our posts. All we said was that it had similarities to the RB5.

The outside of the car looks exactly the same as the RBR5. Not sure how its legal unless they've found a loophole with the chassis internals.

The more I look at the Honda I mean Brawn, the more I like it. The side pods and rear look right. I hope it's quick.

a) The STR4 is an RB5

b) You don't see the exact same nose

c) What are you talking about?!

Yes, STR4==RB4 is the reason Blake posted that reply, which I agree with - they're exactly identical (minus the just-tested sharkfin): Same wing, right down to the details. Same nose with the cobra-walls ("valleys"). The same new pull-rod suspension.

Well, he could at least posted it a little bit more polite as in "That's because it is an RB5" instead of a smiley which comes over as "Are you completely blind?! That IS a freagin' RB5 you idiot! Read some more F1 news on a daily basis!"

Not every single member here is updated on the latest news, and also I thought customer chassis were banned... Some people have better things to do than reading Formula 1 articles around the clock to know exactly how much pounds per square or whatnot downforce an F1 car produces. I'm getting a feeling some members here really try to downgrade others just because we are not F1 nuttheads. We enjoy F1 by just watching it.

Seriously, why give us a feeling that we're complete idiots when you could just re-phrase the post to make it more informal

Well, it was stated several times that customer chassis are banned after 2009, because this subject came up a lot with the whole Prodrive entry into 2008 thing. It was the main reason they didn't end up joining the paddock.

It was also mentioned before quite a bit too because we heard about Red Bull having to sell the STR team before the end of 2009 and recently they bought out Berger's share of the team (to make it easier to sell).

Its not exactly something that was barely mentioned or discussed....so although some of us could be a bit more thoughtful, it isn't exactly surprising when we roll our eyes...

Edit:
Nice video of testing today:

Apparently it is: JB topped the timing sheets at Barcelona yesterday for most of the day, before ultiamtely finishing fourth when apparently all they were aimng for was reliability.

I don't know what Brawn what Brawn has been doing, but it must be something goo.
