Formula 1 Tire Wear

Since you can't purchase any other tires for the Gran Turismo Formula 1 car I'm just wondering if there's any settings that minimize tire wear?
On most tracks I must say the tires last quite a while compared to other vehicles but when I raced in one of the Extreme Events that was a 2 lap event around Nurburgring I had severe rear red tire issues on the second lap about 4 minutes in or about 2 minutes remaining in that lap and race.
My first attempt managed to get me an 11 second lead in lap 2 after trailing 10 seconds twice prior in lap 1 and then I spun out just before the long straightaway and I had to restart. I managed to have a better run on my second attempt and after the first 2 minutes in lap 1 I was leading by several seconds and once again I got rear red tires in lap 2 a little before the long straightaway, fortunately I managed to place first against the Sauber, R8 and Speed 8 but I did not enjoy having to drive slower and more careful near the end due to my rear tires.
Does this happen with everyone or can it be improved?
Thanks

Reduce downforce, be more careful under acceleration(or add a couple clicks of TCS), and/or shift earlier.

Would you also mind explaining why?
How much do I reduce downforce and what does this do?
I'm not quite sure what you mean by be more careful under acceleration.

While downforce may help your car to stick to the road better, it increases pressure on the tires, reducing their time needed to overheat (they heat up faster under heavier downforce)

As for how much to decrease it I couldn't say, I'd try cutting it in half both front & back and run some practice laps to see how it changes the handling / tire wear.

And by 'careful under acceleration' I believe he means try not to instantly mash the gas pedal down, as this may cause tirespin, effectively increasing tire tempurature. Any instances where you find your tires smoking in turns should be avoided if possible, as you are losing traction and burning tires.

and the TCS (traction control) can be useful in the higher powered cars by helping reduce tire-spin. This should be used as sparingly as possible though, as it will automatically slow your cars in places where you could have been going faster. It is better to try and learn to control your throttle before adjusting your TCS to a higher setting.

Also, set rear toe angle to zero. Default is a large negative value which gives good handling but very poor tyre wear.
