Next year Formula 2 is being revived!

The cars will be designed by WilliamsF1, powered by a 1.8L turbocharged Audi engine and prepared by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision company.

Also, the champion for next year will earn a test drive with WilliamsF1:

I don't see why this is being done though when GP2 is still around....why do we need two feeder series for F1?

Exactly, and by the way, i'm just in Italy with Durange team about to test a GP2 this thursday :)

They also seem to think that an F2 car can be run on a budget of less than a Formula Ford team; the general feeling toward the new, cheap F2 seems to be 'we'll believe that when we see it'.

Well, we have a new Formula 2 champion in long-time GP2 driver, Andy Soucek.

We also have a new Yuji Ide in Pietro Gandolfi, except Ide at least had some skill in lower-class formula racing. This guy should not be given an F1 seat ever. His recent crash at Imola says it all - he came full speed into the field while under safety car conditions, managed to avoid the back 4 or 5 drivers and then promptly spun into Natacha Gachnang taking them both out.

The field for this year has been rather lacking, Soucek took the championship fairly easily thanks to having far more experience, not sure even he deserves an F1 seat really.
A couple of the drivers in this series are quite decent (Eng, Vasiliauskas) but they need more experience and to work on their consistencey before getting an F1 seat in my opinion.

I hope Campos don't go with Gachnang, even for reserve driver. As much it would be nice for women to improve their image in motorsport, the signs don't look like she would do the job. More embarrasement than success methinks.
