Freakinhugen: JE Design Builds a VW Touareg "Jumbo"

Date posted: 04-25-2006

LEINGARTEN, Germany — JE Design, the Volkswagen tuning specialist that recently tempted European customers with a wide-body tuning kit for the tiny Seat Ibiza, has set its sights on something a little larger in the VW brand portfolio: the oversize Touareg utility vehicle.

As if the proportions of the Touareg weren't already ample, JE Design has created a styling package that gives VW's big off-roader even more presence. To further enhance its impact, JE Design also offers a serious performance upgrade for the Touareg's 4.2-liter V8 that kicks output into Cayenne country.

Thanks to an order from an unnamed customer in Dubai, JE Design turned a one-off treatment of the Touareg into a full kit that customers can order through the JE Design Web site.

The tuner starts with the 4.2 V8, adding a supercharger and modifying the engine management system to boost output to 500 horsepower and torque to 443 pound-feet. The Touareg's 0-to-60-mph acceleration is trimmed from 8.1 to 5.6 seconds, and top speed climbs from 140 to 170 mph.

The next step is the addition of a JE Design "wide body" conversion kit that bundles front fenders with cooling vents, side sills with air vents, a roof spoiler, rear skirt extensions, rear apron and wheel-arch extensions.

JE Design also lowers the air suspension and installs 22-inch wheels and tires to complete the look.

What this means to you: A stealth Touareg? JE Design can provide the means.

...Pretty nice. Too bad they canceled the V10 TDI program in the US after 2004... That would look good with the bodykit.

mmm...now that you mention it, the V10 TDI would look quite nice with a clean kit...
