Hello all,

I'm now selling custom made PS3 controllers and button boxes. They are made to order to fit your specifications, so it's difficult to explain exactly what they are because I can do almost anything with them.

Uses I have in mind include button boxes for G25/G27 users who want to be able to use every control in GT5, Arcade sticks for fighting games or PSN arcade games (Sonic the Hedgehog, Space Invaders and Pac Man spring to mind), NeGcon- or Jogcon-style twisting controllers for those who want better analog control over racing games without using a wheel, or even one-handed controllers or those that also incorporate foot controls as well as hand held parts.

The basics:
— They're made from Sixaxis or Dualshock 3 controllers, so they are 100% compatible with any and all PS3 software and will be in future, and can be made to work with a PC or Mac as a normal controller can.

— They retain full wireless or wired connectivity.

— They provide access to every input on a PS3 controller including the accelerometer.

— Each input retains its analog function, so potentiometers, force sensitive resistors and other parts can be used as inputs.

— They use the same battery packs as official controllers, but alternative power methods can be used; you could run a controller off of a 9v battery if you wanted, or have an integrated USB cable for more permanent builds such as a rig-mounted button box.

— They can be programmed to execute macros upon a single button press; if you're sick of having to press the RA menu button in GT5, then scroll to the right adjustment, change it then press the RA menu button again, you could specify a set of dials, switches or a combination of both to do all the adjustments for you. I have a similar set up in the rig I'm building at the moment. This also has uses for automatic GT5 grinding...

Prices will depend on what you specify and what you can provide; i.e. if you want me to modify a Dualshock 3 I'd either have to charge you for a controller in the price, but if you can send me one to work on it'll be that much cheaper.

Please PM me the details of what you'd like built and I'll get back to you ASAP with a quote for the job. You can be as specific or not as you like, I'll fill in any gaps or suggest cheaper alternatives wherever possible, and we'll work together to create your own unique controller or button box.

Couple questions.

I sometimes use a wheel and controller.

Will this control box thingy work if I am using my controller? Or will it mess up all of my driving controls?

Also, is there any possible way to switch TC, ABS, or any of that stuff mid race? Just like that old Driving Force GT PRO or something?

I assume when you say you use a wheel and a controller, you mean sometimes you use a wheel, sometimes a controller, but not both? As far as I know, you can't use two controllers at the same time, but you can use a controller and a wheel together to get some more controls, which is what my product is intended to do.

The thing is, though, there's almost enough buttons on a PS3 controller to have all the controls mapped anyway, so you wouldn't gain much from having a button box in conjunction with a controller to be honest.

Yeah, if you go into the controller setup menu you can map the RA Menu buttons. The RA Menu lets you set the TCS, ASM, ABS, VCD and front and rear brake bias. I have my RA Menu mapped to X and the D-pad.

Neema, do you do PS3 to 360 conversions? In other words, a PS360 controller. PS3 guts, in 360 shell?

Thanks

I haven't tried to so far, but never say never! I definitely could if you were to not mind a cable hanging out of the controller with a box attached to it (that would be cheap to do), but as for fitting a PS3 board in a 360 controller, it's not something I've tried yet.

I'll make a prototype over the next week or two and let you know how it turns out, if you like?

I'm afraid not, no. Shortly after posting this thread I started a BTEC electronic engineering course so I haven't had a lot of time nor money to make things for myself off my own back, the idea was to work to commission. That said, however, I'm currently working on a racing cockpit which will feature a button panel which will work with PC sims and GT5 which will hopefully demonstrate some of what I can do.

As for a website, I'm not sure if the AUP would allow me to advertise my own site in a thread here, I don't know. I'll have to read it through and see what is said, but I don't want it to be seen as a loophole. I already had to ask Jordan if it was ok for me to post here, you see, and I don't want to be taking the mick! Either way, though, I don't have a website either as there's not a lot to show yet, just some working prototypes of game controllers (like my NeGcon PS3 controller) and some schematics for switchable multi-mode D-pads for button boxes.

The idea is that a client would ask me to make them something and then we'd work together from there. As a sim racer and gamer I know that something pre-made won't suit everyone, so I want to involve the customer as much as possible to make absolutely sure that what I make is exactly what they want or extremely close to it (within obvious limits, I mean I can't make carbon fibre button boxes for one thing).

The problem there is that I completely understand that people won't want to pay me to work on something for them without any proof that I can do what I say I can, so it's sort of a catch 22 I suppose, but one that I'll hopefully rectify soon.
