With the Daytona 500 coming up in a couple weeks I thought it would be fun to have a full length Daytona 500 race, complete with Daytona Duel qualifying and a practice shootout race. This event will be run with Damage set to Heavy and there will be Cautions for 2 or more car wrecks. The GTP Online Racing Rules & Guidelines are expected to be followed. See https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=111241 if you need a refresher.

The minimum amount of people needed for this event to be run is six. NAT Type 1 or 2 are required to race, NAT Type 3 is prohibited. When signing up please include your PSN ID, which car you will be using and if you will be attending the Daytona Shootout, the Daytona Duels qualifying and the Daytona 500, or all events. Also, send me a friend request over PSN.

We need a driver to be a Pace Car, using the Gran Turismo Skyline GT-R (Pace) '01. If you have this car and can hold a steady speed please sign-up to be the Pace Car driver and we will arrange a time to get together so that I can make sure that you understand the Pace Car procedure and can follow it correctly. If we are unable to get a Pace Car driver, I might do it. I have driven the Pace Car for a full length Indianapolis 500 race before and people said I did a good job. I'd just rather race in this race.

The first Daytona Duel will include the drivers that placed in the odd positions from the initial qualifying. (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.) The results of this race will determine the inside starting grid for the Daytona 500. The second Daytona Duel will include the drivers that placed in the even positions from the initial qualifying. (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) The results of this race will determine the outside starting grid for the Daytona 500. 1st and 2nd place from the initial qualifying will start in 1st and 2nd positions in the Daytona 500 regardless of where they placed in the Daytona Duels.

Caution Procedure
A Caution will be called if there is a two or more car wreck. If there is a one car spin that doesn't interfere with competitors, the Caution WILL NOT be thrown. In the event of a Caution, drivers will slow down to a safe speed in which there is no chance for them to wreck. When a Caution is thrown, do not slam on your brakes to slow down. If you slam on your brakes, you will be penalized.

There will be absolutely no passing during a Caution, from the moment that the Caution is called, unless otherwise directed by a Race Steward. The field will remain under Caution until everything is set to resume racing under safe and fair conditions.

Pit Road will be closed until a Race Steward announces that it is open. Drivers are allowed to pit even if Pit Road is closed if they have excessive damage that is making their car too difficult to drive. However, if any driver pits while Pit Road is closed, they will start at the tail end of the longest line on the double file restart and will forfeit the Lucky Dog Free Pass if they are next in line to receive it. (A new Lucky Dog will not be chosen for that Caution.)

During a Caution, drivers will be running single file and will form up double file for the restart at the call of Race Steward.

Aggressive driving and retaliations under Caution will NOT be permitted and drivers will be penalized accordingly. Drivers who hit other cars and cause damage during a Caution will be penalized with a drive-thru penalty right before the restart. The Caution will be extended to allow the driver that was hit to pit again if pit stops have already occurred. That driver will be allowed to regain their position.
If a driver spins out during a Caution, racers will be allowed to pass that driver. (If drivers are already formed up behind the Pace Car, then racers will only be allowed to pass the driver that spun out as long as they do not exceed the pace speed of 55 mph.) Racers will not be allowed to pass the driver that spun out once that driver is back up to pace speed. If the driver that spun out is damaged as a result of their spin out, the Caution WILL NOT be extended. The driver that spun out WILL NOT get their position back.
During a Caution you may signal other drivers to pass you by moving off of the track and slowing your speed. If you do this, you will only be allowed to take your position back at the call of the Race Stewards if you were typing something important in the in-game chat.

Pace Car Procedure
The Pace Car will wait on Pit Road (or at the exit if they have an early pit box) until a Caution is called. At the moment that a Caution is called, the Pace Car will come out from Pit Road and drive at the pace speed of 55 mph. Pace Speed may be increased to 60 mph once drivers have lined up. Lap 1: Free pass enacted at the call of the Race Stewards. Lead lap cars may pit. If there are any lapped cars between the Pace Car and the first car on the lead lap, they will get waved around after drivers have gone into Pit Road. Lap 2: Lapped cars may pit if there are any, otherwise we line up for a Double File Restart before the final turn; the Pace Car will then go into the pits for a Green Flag restart. Lap 3: Cars will line up for a Double File Restart before the final turn; the Pace Car will then go into the pits for a Green Flag restart. (Lap 3 only occurs if there were lapped cars.) Lap 4: Lap 4 will only occur if a car that was waved around pitted. That driver will pull over on the backstretch while all of the other cars go around the track to re-lap that driver. There will then be a Green Flag restart. There is to be no passing of the Pace Car at any time. Even when you getting ready to go into the pits. On the restart the Pace Car is not to be passed until it is turning onto Pit Road.

Beneficiary Rule: (Also known as Free Pass or Lucky Dog Rule.)
When there is a Caution, the first car a lap(s) down (Known as the Lucky Dog.) gets a lap back. After the Pace Car comes out, the Lucky Dog will carefully pass the Pace Car at the call of a Race Steward and take a lap around the track. After the Lucky Dog takes his lap, he will get back in line behind the lapped cars. The Lucky Dog must pit with the lapped cars instead of the lead lap cars for this Caution. A driver will not get a free pass if they were the one to cause the Caution.

Wave Around Rule
During a Caution if you are between the Pace Car and the first car on the lead lap, you may pass the Pace Car at the Race Steward's call. If you are waved around, you may not pit during that Caution. If a driver decides to pit during a Caution that they are waved around, then they will forfeit the wave around and must pull over on the backstretch and get lapped again. If you are planning on pitting and you are set to be waved around, do not wave around.

Restarts
Restarts will be Double File. The leader will get a choice of inside or outside lane. For the rest of the rows odd positions will be on the inside and even positions will be on the outside. The full order of cars in a restart is as follows: lead lap cars, lapped car(s), the Lucky Dog, waved around cars, penalized cars. There is to be no changing lanes until after your car has passed the Start/Finish Line. If you're on the inside row and the outside row gets a better jump, you're stuck on the inside row until your car passes the Start/Finish Line and vice-versa.

Network Disconnect Cautions
When a driver has a network disconnect and is forced out from the lounge of an event race, a “Disconnect Caution” will be waved. NAT Type 1 or 2 are required to race, NAT Type 3 is prohibited. If you wish to retire from the race, enter Pit Road, do not click "OK", or if you do IMMEDIATELY hit Start. This will ensure that you car stays in it's pit stall for the remainder of the race.

A. Disconnect Cautions resemble mechanical issues/failures, this MUST be the said driver’s first network disconnect of the race.

B. The standing Race Steward will call for the Caution when noted that the qualifying driver has left the room.

C. All drivers will gradually come to a STOP on the track so that the Official’s can take a tally and placement of current drivers for the restart. DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL TOLD.

D. All drivers will exit the lounge so the host can reset the room.

E. Once the room has been reset all drivers may re-enter the room for competition. (It helps if the host is on everyone's Friends List.)

F. The host will set laps to remaining amount plus one for a Pace Lap reset of the field. (Additional Pace Laps may be needed if there are lapped cars.)

G. The disconnected driver will restart at the rear of the field on the Pace Lap. The exception to this is if there are lapped cars.

H. If there are lapped cars, the lapped cars will pull over to the side of the track on the backstretch and will rejoin the lead lap cars when they are the correct amount of laps down. The field will remain under Caution until all cars are the laps down they should be before the disconnection occurred.

I. The Lucky Dog will circle the field with the lead lap cars if they were put on the lead lap, otherwise they will pull over with the rest of the lapped cars and have 1 lap subtracted from the number of laps they are down.

J. Standard restart procedure will be followed on the final Pace Lap.

K. Disconnect Cautions will not occur with 10 or less laps to go.

L. If a driver is disconnected a second time, a second Disconnect Caution WILL NOT be granted, the driver will record a DNF, and may remain in the lounge area.

M. Re-entry after 2nd disconnect drivers and lapped down drivers – Drivers will be able to re-enter a race if they are disconnected a second time. When the driver re-enters the room they will not be awarded a Disconnect Caution and the room will not be reset. However, if another Disconnect Caution is called later in the race, and the field is reset along with the room, that driver will be granted re-entry to the race. It is as if their car was taken behind the wall for repairs. 2nd re-entry drivers will restart the race 5 laps down in relation to the last place car. (Unless they were less than 5 laps down in relation to the last place car, in which case they will be the number of laps down that they actually were.) Lapped drivers will pull off to a designated spot and wait for lead lap drivers to pass them additional times until they are the correct number of laps down. Drivers who reenter the race in this way, and are more than 5 laps down, will not be eligible for a Free Pass until there have been enough times where they would have been the Lucky Dog, where they would actually be 5 laps down. (Help from Officials will be available if necessary.)

Penalty Procedure
To do a drive-thru penalty, enter Pit Road in while going backwards; this will force your car to reset and drive-thru Pit Road without pitting. Running a Pit Stop when you are required to do a Drive-thru Penalty will result in another Drive-thru penalty when you arrive at Pit Road after going around the track.

A driver will be penalized with a drive-thru penalty if they pass another driver below the yellow line and do not give the position back right away. A driver will also be penalized with a drive-thru penalty if they cause damage to another driver for the Caution. In addition, a driver will be penalized with a drive-thru penalty if they change lanes on the restart before the Start/Finish line. If a driver is called to serve a drive-thru penalty if they caused damage to another driver, they will follow the Pace Car into pit road during the restart, but will turn around and enter Pit Road backwards to serve the penalty.

Failure to comply within 3 laps will result in a disqualification where the driver must go to Pit Road and wait there until the end of the race. Failure to do that will result in the Host leaving the race and kicking the offending driver from the room. At this point other racers will note the driver and probably won't want that driver in their events in the future. The Disconnection Caution procedure will then be followed so that the host may rejoin the race.

If a driver is the cause of a Caution they will start at the tail end of the longest line on the restart.

If a driver is retaliating against other drivers they will be kicked from the room and then the Disconnection Caution procedure will then be followed so that the host may rejoin the race.

If there are not enough laps left in the race for a driver to serve a penalty, then they will be penalized after the race by being dropped to the last position for the current lap that are on. (Example: If a driver is on the lead lap and he doesn't have enough time to serve the penalty, they will finish as the last car on the lead lap, ahead of any lapped cars.)

These are the primary penalties, however there may be additional penalties to be determined during the race if it is deemed necessary.

Green-White-Checkered Procedure
If a Caution is called and the race would end under Caution, the Green-White-Checker Procedure will be enacted. A Red Flag will be called so that the Lobby Owner can put the positions in order. When the Lobby Owner is ready, everyone will exit the race. DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL TOLD.

There will now be a 2 lap race, plus 1 Pace Lap, to determine the winner. Lapped cars will not join the race. (The exception to this is if there are multiple cars that are the same number of laps down and those cars will be competing for a Lucky Dog position.) However, the Lucky Dog of the last Caution will join the race if they are put back on the lead lap.

Lap 1: Organizing the positions based on what position people were in during the last Caution, also Pace Lap. Lap 2: Green Flag. Lap 3: White Flag.

If there is a Caution during the second lap of a Green-White-Checkered, the procedure will restart. A Green-White-Checkered will only be attempted 3 times. If there is a wreck after the leader has begun the final lap, there will be no Caution and the race will continue to finish under a Green Flag. If there is a Caution on lap 2 of 3 during the 3rd attempt of a Green-White-Checkered, the Pace Car will come out and the race will finish under Caution, instead of people exiting.

Your off a day.Did you mean Saturday the 23rd or Sunday the 24th?
Oops, I meant Friday the 22nd for the Duels and Saturday the 23rd for the Daytona 500. I wouldn't want to have our event on the 24th as that's the day of the real Daytona 500 and I would like to watch it. Sorry for the confusion. I just updated my post with the correct dates. Thanks for pointing that out. The Daytona Shootout date of Sunday the 17th is still correct.

By the way, I just added another thing I need to know to the main post. Will you be attending just the Daytona Shootout, just the Daytona Duels Qualifying Races and the Daytona 500, or all the events? I spent a couple hours typing that post, I just knew I was bound to miss something.

Yeah, I'm fine with having a practice next Friday. (I wasn't available this Friday sorry.)

By the way guys. To confirm your attendance, send a friend request to Peelster1 over PSN that states in the body of the message if you'll be attending the Daytona Shootout on Sunday, February 17th or not. You can also sign up to attend just the Daytona Shootout, but it would be great to have everyone attend all the events.

I realize that attendance isn't looking good right now as we only have two sign-ups. However, I'm going to message some people on my friend's list about this thread and hope that they sign up.

UPDATE: Due to the fact that the Sprint Unlimited starting lineup was based on when drivers earned their Pole Position last Season, we will have standard 2 lap qualifying for the Daytona Shootout, with the starting lineup based on the fastest lap time. As we cannot run an entire NASCAR Season have people get Pole Positions, this is the next closest thing.

I have updated the OP with more information on each segment as well as updated the room open time and the qualifying start time for the Daytona Shootout.

I have also created a poll asking how you would prefer we set up the lobby. Either as one race with Caution laps in between segments, or as three separate races. With the first option, there will be more Pace Laps than with the second option, but we will stay on the track the entire time. With the second option, we will exit back to the lobby automatically after the last lap of each segment.

If you have not already send me a Friend Request over PSN, please do so. I need people on my Friend's List in case there is a server issue where people get disconnected so that I may reinvite them to the race.

I have sent messages to some of my friends over PSN telling them about this event. In the case that nobody else joins this event by the Daytona Shootout, would you guys still want to race the Daytona Shootout? The Daytona Duels and the Daytona 500 will still only be run if we have at least six people. If at least three more people do not join by Friday, February 22nd, this event will be postponed or even canceled if we are unable to get people that will be able to sign up at a later date.

Alan, if we have a pace car. I'll probably do it. But right now we really need racers. I hope to see you all for the event on Friday and Saturday. If you know some people that would like this event, tell them about it!

Fan24 got into the wall in the second half of the race after the second Caution and never got a chance to catch back up. golfnutwv proved his skill with getting Pole Position for the Intial Qualifying and finishing first in his Duel. Congratulations golfnutwv!

Daytona Duel #2 Summary
A no Caution race made for a victory for Alan_2134 when the leaders ran out of fuel! Alan_2134 took some damage on Lap 28 due to some lag; this and a combination of Soft tires made made for some tough laps. He was able to stay with the pack until he pitted on Lap 36 becoming 1 lap down. Peelster1 bumpdrafted jeff46107 to gain some extra distance on Alan_2134. They finally went to Pit Road on Lap 49 due to low fuel and Alan_2134 was able to make his lap back, however he was still had half of the track between him and the leaders. However, the leaders both took the recommended amount of gas that GT5 recommended and as a result didn't have enough fuel and were forced to pit a second time coming on 1 lap to go. jeff46107 took the recommended amount again and it wasn't enough to get him around the track allowing for Peelster1 to get 2nd, not that it matters as jeff46107 secured the outside Pole in the Initial Qualifying.

*Dawsonn57 finished 4th, however he changed lanes before the Start/Finish Line on the Green-White-Checkered restart which would have resulted in a Black Flag Drive-Through Penalty

What a great race! We had some problems at the start and ended up having to back out on Lap 23. There were a few Cautions, but not too many. Some people made Green Flag stops and some didn't.

On Lap 127 golfnutwv got into the wall and rileywinch went around him. golfnutwv came of the wall clipping rileywinch and causing jeff46107 to rear-end them. rileywinch got into the wall from being clipped and then had to go a couple laps later.

On Lap 186 golfnutwv got into the wall exiting Turn 2 and then went to pit. He got a penalty for speeding on Pit Road because he entered too fast. golfnutwv decided to then park his car.

On Lap 188 there was a Caution when Peelster1 got into the wall in Turn 3 and got into jeff46107. Making for a Restart on Lap 192 for an 8 lap shootout. Peelster1 started 1st on the restart and led until Lap 199, where with a push from Alan_2134, AK87-_ was able to pass Peelster1 for the lead.

There was a Caution coming onto the final lap when Peelster1 went on the inside AK87_-. AK87_- moved up a little and ended up ricocheting off of Alan_2134 into Peelster1 causing the entire field except jeff46107 and dawsonn57 to wreck! dawsonn57 then ended up rear-ending jeff46107, causing heavy damage to his own car. With everyone except jeff46107 heavily damaged we had to go backwards on the track to do pit stops, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to because entering Pit Road would have finished the race. It didn't matter either way as people exited the pits in the same order they entered and the room was reset for a Green-White-Checkered.

jeff46107 started on the Pole for the Restart and led to the White Flag. Alan_2134 gave AK87_- a push on the backstretch putting AK87_- in 1st. Alan_2134 got a good run coming out of Turn 4 to take the lead on the outside. However, it was the inside line that was the better line and AK87_- snatched the victory 4 hours after the start of the race.
