G25 configuration.

Hell chaps, my first post.

I've got GT5 prologue and I bought the G25 wheel yesterday. I tried the plug-and-play and it sort of works but not quite how I'd like it to.

I'm not going to be a regular user of PS3 games and given the fiddly nature of setting up the wheel each time I want to play (the PS3 shares the same desk space with my normal PC), I'm hoping to achieve some shortcuts. There's no problem with the pedals or clamping down the wheel but it's the gear shifter that's my concern. Is it possible to use just the wheel without the shifter? I'm quite happy to use the wheel using just the paddles to change up and down.

I did try it and while I can accelerate and brake using the pedal I can't get the paddles to change up and down. In short, is it possible to use the wheel only and if so, how?

Granted, I might be depriving myself of a better gaming experience if I have the shifter but at this it's just a bit clumsy trying to use them all. If I could eliminate the shifter entirely that would suit me for now.

I'd appreciate some advice.

Thanks. Peter.

You can use the paddle shifters but the shifter need to be connected as it has the X, square ect buttons on it.

Switch the dial on the shifter piece into sequential mode by pushing the shifter down and turning it to the left. Paddles will then be activated.

Do you guys know if there are any differences, between the g25 wheel?
ie, old or new ones.

I'm looking at different prices online, and I know some of them are the old g25, while others are probably new (made in '07 vs '08).

thats awesome i didn't know this, i've had my g25 for a few months, loving it and i love the h-pattern shifter, but always wondered how to use the paddles behind the wheel, not so much for me, but when friends/people come over wanting to use it. :)👍

z06fanboi, is it possible to use the paddles without having to connect the shifter to the wheel? I can understand why I need to connect the shifter if that's the only way but I'd like to know if there is another way it could be done, perhaps in the game setup menu itself?

I really would like to leave the shifter in my desk draw. Maybe in the spring I will get round to making an overlay for my desk and have the wheel and shifter fitted permanently but until then, the shifter seems a bit of a burden considering that I'm only going to use GT5 occasionally.

I dont think they have made any changes to build but the prices are weird as logitech have it at £200 and amazon had it at £130 for a day then they put it upto £150.

GT4 will work but not GT5p and as far as I can tell there is no way of getting around it. The shifter needs to be in sequential mode in order for the paddle shifters to be active.

You can't even fool it since the shifter is linked via a single bit serial communications interface, so you would need something that understood the protocol and the signalling.

My solution was to go out and get a DF-GT. I wired the G25 pedals to the DF-GT and I much prefer the GT wheel to the G25 so now everything works great.
