G25 Questions

I have a few questions concerning the G25. I'm really considering buying one within the next couple weeks or so. First off in order for me to get it in about 2 weeks I will have to sell MGS4. Is it worth that? Another thing I wanted to know about was the force feedback. Is it like the DFP which I am currently using, where I can turn the steering to simulation and turn the force feedback all the way up to 10. It's very important to me that I use those settings because it feels the most realistic by far. My last question is do the pedals have the carpet grips like the DFP? I do not have a cockpit and will be using a computer desk, so the pedals will just be in front of me underneath the desk. Will the pedals slide around, or is there any kind of grips on the bottom?

Or even:

Have been using the G25 for the last year or so. It is a fantastic wheel. The pedals have a very solid feel to them and you dont have to worry about them slipping. The pedal unit is quite heavy, a lot heavier than the DFP. The pedals themselves dont appear to suffer from the maladies of the DFP pedals.

The wheel, Ive found, is a lot smoother too. Also is slightly larger than the DFP and doesnt have a "chunky" feel to it. Paddles at the rear are also easier to use.

Cant say much about the shifter as Ive not really used it as much, used it on a mates rig though for about 15 minutes, felt like it could handle some punishment though :)

Hope this helps

A while ago I started to have problems with the "reverse" of the G25. I called Logitech and they have sent me and brand new wheel.

The gearbox of the new wheel is a lot better than the gearbox of the old wheel. That annoying clicking sound when shifting gears is gone, they gearbox is a lot stiffer, more firm etc... Logitech listened to the complaints of the customers and did something about it.

If someone decide to buy a new wheel, don't buy one out of stock, order a new one and you will probably have a wheel with the revised gearbox.

I sold my G25 today. I fixed the old one and can start using the one that Logitech has sent me last week.

I'm going to be buying a G25 next week. How can I make sure I get the one with the revised shifter? Order directly from Logitech?

what do you mean by revised shifter?

Read post #6 or see below...

Did you decide on how you are going to order it yet?

I just got off the phone with Logitech and the sales associate I talked to said she had no record of an update/change being made to the gear box on the G25 since its' release back in Sept. '06. That said, I got the feeling that it doesn't mean a change hasn't been made to the gearbox. I think to be on the safe side, I am going to order the G25 directly from Logitech. It might cost me a little bit more but I want to play it safe rather than regret it later.

Do you have any evidence that a change was made to the gear box other than your personal impressions? Have you ever used any other G25's other than the two that you own(ed)? You make it sound like a notchy, clicky gearbox is common to the G25.. have you heard this from other G25 owners? Know of any threads with G25 owners complaining of this issue? I read your post to the lady at Logitech and she suggested that maybe your first G25 was a "lemon" from the start as she said there were no notes about a reoccurring problem with the G25's shifter assembly.

EDIT: I kinda answered some of my own questions.. I did a quick google search and found a couple threads about G25 gearbox problems. Doesn't look like its a major epidemic but the problem does exist. Links...

That's kind of what I'm thinking of doing right now as well.

kikie, you were right. I just noticed that i have one of the updated shifters. I was watching a video on Youtube and noticed that the shifter was making a clicking noise when changing gears on H-mode. I was like "wait... my shifter doesn't make that noise" lol.

I mean i can still hear it, but its not so much a "click" its just a bit of movement. Glad i got one of the newer ones.

When (how long ago) did you buy your G25?

I got one for 220 shipped on ebay, it was a refurbished model though.

I just bought one for $220 dollars on ebay today, open box. Do you know if your g25 is a revised shifter? If not, I will be extremely dissapointed! :( I should have just bought a brand new one for $280! :grumpy:

Really? Mine was in a unopened box but I do have the old model. It doesn't annoy me as I already modded it to be stiffer and queter already.
