G25 shifting issue only in GT5P

Hi all,

New to the forum. Great spot for information!

Have the latest update of the USA DL GT5P and a logitech G25 wheel. I had not played in a while since I grabbed Midnight club a while back.

Have been having weird problems with the shifter now that I am back to GT5P. Sporadically it will not shift into like 3rd gear but will go into neutral. Only thing that seems to help is shifting back to 1st and then everything is fine again.

Midnight club and others that use the clutch and shifter are doing just fine. Any ideas? Any bugs in GT5P for the shifter/clutch? Seems odd the other games are fine.

Hi Volley, welcome to GTP.
I don't know of any bugs, but you do have to time your shifts. If you watch the gear indicator you'll see it go to neutral between gears, if you miss your shift,, you stay in nuetral.

Are you flat-shifting? As in keeping the gas pressed down while shifting?? If not then its just down to timing, like mentioned earlier... I had issues with that in the beginning when I was getting use to G25 :)

Yes, it did seem to happen more when flat-shifting as you called it. Obviously in real life this could be a bad thing, but didn't expect it to make a difference in the game.

Although question with the timing, if I shift before clutch, how does that appear to the driver? Goes to neutral and does not shift? What do you do to fix then? Clutch and go back to the gear you were in?

Thanks for the comments...I can believe it is one of these two.

If you miss a gear you just have to clutch and shift back to the gear you want... If Im going quickly and miss a gear I usually just calmly push the clutch and shift to the gear I want while coasting and go on my merry way even tough I lost a crap load of time :P

That feature can be disabled by pressing the triangle button. Alternately each time you press the triangle button you will either have to shift carefully with the clutch and releasing the gas pedal and if you press the triangle button again you can powershift without releasing the gas and even not pressing on the clutch using the H-pattern shifter.

The triangle button just toggles the clutch on or off.

Yes, and that usually takes care of the issue of missing gears, ending up in nuetral when using the H-Pattern shifter and not lifting the gas pedal.

Hmmm...nope. When it goes into the issue, I cannot shift into gear even with clutch engaged fully. I have to go back to 1st or monkey with it to get it going again. Somethings not right.

Make sure your not pressing the throttle while trying to shift. The game is really strict about that.

Your clutch still have to be pressed when you shift into the gear you want, otherwise it'll get to neutral. When that happens, just press the clutch, shift into gear, then release. You may be just shifting too quick for your foot or not pressing the clutch enough.

It was the throttle being down when shifting. Got used to the sloppy footwork that NFS and Midnight club allowed.

Thanks to all!

Yeah, if you like shifting with the throttle down try the alternate function of the triangle button where the clutch is actually by passed. You can just simulate the clutch shifting but it won't miss the gears.

Well, don't know about you, but I've been driving cars with real clutches for 25+ years now, and I've been basically unable to get used to the G25 clutch in GT5p. To me it is just about unusable. The whole "clutch as an on/off switch" problem causes me to miss shifts all the time, and can almost never get a clean launch off the line. I have noticed that in other games I don't have nearly the same problems, so while this is partly a G25 problem, it is also partly a GT5p problem. I always shift properly, no keeping the gas pedal down.

I've simply taken to driving in GT5p with the clutch disabled. I'll still use the shifter and the clutch pedal, it just that the clutch isn't really doing anything.
