Hi,
ive just recently got hooked to drifting, and ive found like many others who move to a g25 that the 900 degree steering is a bit of a problem. my highest score so far is 10820 on Eiger F. What i want to know is are there any tips on how to increase drifts with the g25, at the moment i tend to clutch kick to get the back end out with the occasional use of the handbrake. im also using a ferarri r430 which i borrowed a setup for. I noticed some people use power steering? does it actually help?

any help in regards to techniques using the g25 will be appreciated. I am on Professional Physics. The main problem is i cant keep the drift going on big turns i always end up straightening back out again and having to push the handbrake to go sideways. Steering is not so much of an issue, as ive grown used to it with the f430.

thanks.

when i first drifted gt5p, i had power-assist (power steering) on, which made it easier, i wasn't fighting the wheel, but you lose a lot of Road feel and the weight transfer through the wheel which to me is important because all the speed/road sensation is through the wheel, we don't feel the forces on the body. Turning it off, once you are comfortable with the weight shift/transfer is a lot easier, you let the weight of the car do the work for you.

If you are straightening out it's because you are either Counter-steering too much (or too soon), or not giving it enough throttle to keep the rear-end out. Throttle control and steering input is KEY to good drifts. you need to learn how to catch the car at your desired angle, and keep the angle by adjusting steering/throttle.

If you feel it start to straighten out, Mash the throttle quickly and turn INTO the drift (reduce counter steer) that should help Increase angle, but in doing so be ready to correct and hold the angle when you get it back. It's all about learning how much throttle and steering to put in to get the desired angle. Also speed and momentum into the turns makes a huge difference.

thanks guys, your advice really helped, especially vr6wantsr20det's guess of me turning back to soon, i've started turning back into the drift if the cars straightening out, and am starting to see gradual improvements, i know that its a lot of practice but its just so annoying at times when one section spoils your whole turn. I'm currently at 12,4XX which means i improved 2,000 odd thanks to the advice, im not going to give up, and am going to keep on practicing to get my next target (13,000 lol) and so on.

thanks again,

p.s thanks for the vid slaphappyfranky, it helped me to understand a good way of holding the wheel, as before i just held it in racing style rather than feeding it around.

You should use easier car in the beginning. Jumping into F430 straight away is probably not the best solution, since it needs high revs and lots of speed to perform good drifts since it's original purpose is being a high grip supercar for almost anyone. It's also light, and twitchy due the MR layout. I would suggest using Viper GTS, or Lotus Evora. They're not too fast, but they have enough grunt and handling to deal with slow speed drifts. You can't run before you learn to walk, you know.. ;)

that might help. You can see the corrections While drifting, especially along the Long Right hand sweeper turn you can see me turning into the drift a bit to keep/increase the angle. Not the best video but gives you an idea. Throttle input is equally important as steering. I try not to be full on the throttle, bouncing off the rev-limiter. I try to modulate the throttle so that the wheels are still spinning, but i'm not FULL-Throttle and on the rev-limiter if i don't have to be, which sometimes you do. practice makes better, just try to have fun. You will get better when you are enjoying it.

nice video especially Sector 3 and 5, could you be kind enough to share your setup on the blitz skyline please.

Thanks.

it's a very GENERIC set-up. it has LOTS of room for improvement. More recently instead of going into drift trial, i just go into time-trial so i don't have to keep restarting although you can't mess with the settings, but it's good to adapt to the cars abilities and they all drift pretty well. I use N3's for powerfull cars, and n2's for cars like the tunned cappuccino. I will share the exact set-up specs when i get home, but what is good for me, may not work so well for you. I don't drift for points, just for fun. If you want to get up with the points leaders, you need to run N1's :)👍

just got my g25 today..... i could drift pretty well before with the pad..... now its a whole new learning curve...... im finding it hard with the hand break due to not having a joystick or anything i could use for one. and any binds on the wheel can be hard to get to when counter steering. also, is everyone els using 900 degrees?

Can some one email me step by step on how to set the wheel to 900 degrees i tried it on the computer but it doesn't seem like i set it. please email me at amusanovic@gmail.com thank you guys

The Logitech G25/G27 are always in 900 degree mode. It can only be changed through the Logitech Profiler (only PC games). For console it's always 900 degrees, unless you have a Fanatec 911 Turbo wheel (can be set between 4 different degrees).

;)

Use N3(N1 is great for Blitz and S2000), max turning angle: 50, use FR cars not MR, set each gear for each turn, a lil toe in rear and a lil camber in front, At least 400 HP, power stearing off(more road feeling), make a custom handbrake(i did!).

My tip would be to start with the Suz cap tuned with n1, easy to drift learn transition etc as the car moves slowly when it oversteers, then when you got used to that do the 350Z on N3 followed by the M3, then you should have the idea of what you need to do for each situation, MR cars are the harder ones to drift.

12,000 in Eiger is already a realistic good score. It now boils down to what car and quick tune you use. If you are after the scores, just use the controller and download the replay of the high score and try to imitate it. I mean, there is no way you could really do that on a wheel, its impossible.

How so? I think its a million times easier to drift with a wheel than with a controller.

Do you use a controller or wheel?

i use g25.

but im referring to the top score at online ratings. they would just handbrake and stager a lot which is really hard with a 900 degree steering.
