Hello all,

I didn't really find a thread like this, so I hope it's all right to make it into one.

Recently my G25 wheel stopped working; it stops responding halfway the calibration process. I tried to open it and followed some fix advice from diverse sources, but all to no avail. The pedals and shifter are still working however.

So I waited for the MS and Sony nextgen announcements, hoping for news about future compatibility. From what I understand PS4 will probably support everything the PS3 supports, while X1 will most likely not support anything out of the box, however Fanatec looks like they want to make their wheels compatible if possible.

Now, with the upcoming GT6 demo I really would like to buy myself a new wheel, ideally as future proof as possible (PC + PS4 + X1). I was kinda planning on buying a new wheel for the new generation, so I could finally take on Forza with a wheel. But X1 compatibility has the lowest priority because I'm not sure that I will get one.

I also recall that there are some brands that sell wheels by themselves that are compatible with the G25 pedals (not too sure about the shifter), so maybe that is an option.

I don't necessarily have a budget, but I feel €600 for just a wheel is not really worth it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

if you want something now, the g27. all other wheels like t500/fanatec are sold out or backordered or something wrong with supply. At least in the U.S. not sure about where you are.

If it is failing to calibrate it could be a problem with Optical Encoder Wheel. I would try getting that replaced before you spend money on a new wheel.

You can order one. Recently a friend's G27 stopped calibrating because of this. He ordered one and now it is fine.

Here's a link. It does take a couple weeks to get it. This replacement will be a lot stronger too, because it is made out of brass instead of plastic. http://cmlaserservice.com/page_g25_g27_optical_encoder_wheel.html

Ditto. Otherwise a g27 is a great wheel for the price. The more expensive wheels are worth the price to be sure, but the g27 is more than worth the price.

Thanks for the replies guys.

So I reopened the wheel and checked the Optical encoder wheel. This piece looked absolutely fine, there was a supersmall tear at the end of the base that is shoved over the metal thingy, but that could not have influenced the actual wheel (my best judgement). Anyways, I pasted it with the appropriate glue, and after reassembling nothing changed.

I checked some of the old computer mouses I had for a possible replacement wheel, and found some that still worked to be in worse shape than the one in the wheel. There wasn't an exact fit so I couldn't really test it.

I also have some pretty big crack in the main plastic thing:

So for now it seems that I'll go for a G27 (there is a store on the other side of the street with one in stock so that's pretty convenient). I'm also thinking about buying the improved spring from this thread.

I had the same problem, so I emailed logitech asking if they could repair it.

I got a reply saying sorry no, but they did give me a 50% off voucher vaild for 7 days, so i bought a G27 :-)
