I finally got a working g27 :DDDDDD and I tried drifting today. At first I kept spinning out I would be able to start the drift and hold it for a good second then it would sling shot the other way.

Sometimes I get the entire corner but when I try to end the drift at the end of the corner I sling shot the other way:grumpy:.

Besides practice is there any tips on how to drift with a g27?

P.S I use 4 force feedback.

The "slinging you the other way" most likely is not upshifting at the appropriate time. I was having the same problem when I first started using the wheel. Although I use a DFGT, the concept should be the same. Just upshift earlier than you think you would, and bask in the glory of dead smooth drifting.

Just be patient and keep practicing, it'll be second nature soon enough.

Same happened for me too. I was ace in drifting when I had my old DF Ex. Now I got a g25 and I suck. That's because of the 900 degree movement: with the old one it was easy to just turn the wheel to find the perfect countersteer. Now I have to spin the wheel like mad, which btw is more realistic but sooo hard.

Tuning and getting comfortable with your wheel are most important and will help you along the way, after that it's all practice buddy trust me.👍

Tried once again and still no luck... I must say that drifting with 900 degree wheel is way harder than with a normal wheel controller. Anyone able to drift with a 900 degree wheel should congratulate himself with coockie!

Don't go full blast at the start trying to get backwards entries and technical flicks, just take it easy. The best advice I can give you is to get about a 300hp car with moderate to light weight, then go and drive. Go through the corner as normal and as you get near the exit, give it a little more gas tham you should. It should kick out a bit and you have to manage the throttle amd countersteer. Do that for a while until you're comfortable going sideways, ramp up the difficulty from there. Baby steps are key to learn it properly. 👍

ah The biggest problem I have so far is that after a drift I can't get the car into a straight line it just spins out. I countersteer when going into the drift and during the exit I steer the the other way.

IS there something I'm doing wrong?

Its hard to explain, but going sideways then back to straight was tough for me as well. You just need to be confident and stay on the throttle as much as possible while turning back to neutral smoothly. Youtube has a lot of great videos that can show you better than I can explain it.

Driving starts at 0:45, listen to how he uses the throttle and watch how he steers while straightening back out, especially at the mini straight and at the end of the runs.

I hope it helps, his other in car videos helped me a lot as well, they translate to GT5 quite well.

Anyway, this is how I started drifting.. as I stated on the other thread.

Just like the OP, I am a beginner in drifting. I couldn't complete one corner with a car with RWD, so this is what I did.

> Course Maker
> Alaska(Snow) - made a very complex track
> Bought the 07 Subie and took a tune setup from the Depot
> Probably did 30-45 mins in the snow track I made

After that, my hand movements on the wheel improved probably 200%. I mean I can probably do lock to lock with good control (not just spinning it) on a G27 in no time because I went on and try my newly learned skill in the kart track I made which is also complex and super sharp turns. I don't have a handbrake mod yet so go figure how I had to slide the car.

So, that session on the snow track really helps because you focus more on wheel control rather than initiating a drift which can lead to frustration on a dry track. Also, practice your throttle control at the same time.

Watched the "Drift Bible" once again and really decided to stick with power over, feint, or my favorite.. braking drift! Took the Subie to Tsukuba and I actually did well the first lap so decided to stick for another 15-20 mins. After that, I've been doing well with that car and was so happy that I can finally drift.

Then, I tuned a RWD from the Depot and began drifting with FR. This time, I saw an improvement. The only thing I need help with FR is maybe getting the car stable right after I exit the drift. Any pointers? The problem is once I exit, I somehow couldn't control the spin of the wheel, is it because the car has too much power? I tried it on a 08 M5 I think.

Then nk4e responded.. "Slowly release the gas pedal when your exiting out of the drift."

I can't believe I didn't thought of that. :dopey: Thanks nk4e btw.

I think it's because I practiced with an AWD that I had a hard time exiting a drift in a RWD because i'm throttle happy with the Subie. So slowly release the gas right before or while you're exiting the drift. It worked well. I have G27 so I know what you're talking about how the wheel spins out like it is possessed. After nk4e advice, I have no problem exiting anymore. The wheel doesn't spin anymore and the it feels very natural returning the wheel on the center position.
