G27 Newbie

Hi. Just picked up a G27 from Hong Kong for $270 Aussie dollars. Happy with that. I have never used a wheel before but I am going to build a driving cockpit for me and my 7 year old boy for when GT5 comes out. I got the wheel out tonight and Im a bit confused. I will be using it only on my PS3. Do I still have to connect it to my PC first and download latest drivers and such and also set it up whilst there with the Logitech Profiler or is all that just for PC use? I tried it with GRID Reloaded tonight and when FFB was selected the car would not steer with the wheel. The pedals worked and all the buttons but no steering. When I turned FFB off it steered. Also when I hit a fence or something the wheel makes a very annoying chattering sound. Is that normal or is it the way I have all the settings adjusted? If that chattering feeling is how they are im not very impressed so far. Is that the difference I read about with the Fanatec wheels having belt drive? Im hoping its all just in the adjustments. Also is it just a matter of hit and miss with all the in game adjustments or is there somewhere I can look for a guide to the most popular settings for differnt games. Can setting for each game be saved somehow? Thanks any help appreciated.

Hi. If you're only using it with the PS3 than you don't need to worry about drivers. Pretty much every game will have settings for the wheel (force feedback levels, dead zones etc) so once you've set up the wheel within the game, the settings will be saved.

Not sure what's going on with Grid as I don't have the game. I'm sure someone here will be able to help you out! :)

Welcome to the forums btw! 👍

off topic alittle, what site did your purchase ur g27? its a bargain at that price!!!!

Welcome to GTPlanet, koop. 👍

I'm afraid we don't allow textspeak here. We also expect the use of Capital Letters, as outlined in the AUP:

•You will not use “textspeak” (“r”, “u”, “plz”, etc.) in your messages. Decent grammar is expected at all times, including proper usage of capital letters.

Koop I have a friend who flys for Qantas and she bought it from some shop near her hotel. Shes not the shop around type but I was happy with that price. Working OK so far except for the chattering effect it gives off. I hope it gets better with GT5.

Fairly sure that chattering is the Helical gears grinding against each-other, which has been improved from the G25 which I assume was much worse....
I doubt it will go away unless it really is a problem specific to your wheel.

That effect is a signature of the GRID engine. Expect it in any codemasters games like Dirt2 or F1 2010. You can reduce it by lowering the 'Environmental Effects' in the wheel setting page ( If you can do that in GRID).

I haven't noticed it in any other games yet. As bad as sounds, it is actually pretty good in Dirt2. Nothing simulates mechanical sympathy for the car like actual mechanical sympathy for your wheel.
