Game suddenly won't load or play.

One day (yesterday & today), my game suddenly won't play or load. Its a 3 wk old system and game. I put the disk in and nothing happens. Just a flicker of the HD light, then dead. Other games load and play no problem. I have read some threads on deleting the game data and reinstalling. That seems like a bit of a headache to do and I want to make sure I troubleshoot everything else first. Is there a thread with troubleshooting tips? Sony website and manual is useless and seems to be suggesting I send it in for service. Also, when I go to game data and view it doesn't show a game software version. Is that a clue? I use a Snapfish wheel and sixaxis controller, neither seems to do anything. Any help is appreciated.

what I suggest is to back up your save data first to a thumbdrive or external hard disk, before deleting it. then boot up the game and see if it works. if the game does boot up without the original save data, then we can safely assume that your save data is the culprit.

check your disc for scratches too. since other games are able to boot, I doubt its a lens issue.

look for a tiny crack in the disc. slightly bend the disc and the crack should be evident (if there is one).

Backup your savegame like seizure said, delete it and try again.
If this wont work also delete the install file, start the game again and see if it boots up, if yes, copy your savegame back to the PS3, if it then wont start, your savegame is broken.

I have deleted the game data, and no effect.
Disk looks like new. No scratches or cracks. I presume it is still somehow the culprit, but will take it to BB to see if they can run it.

Make sure the disc is free of smudges like fingerprints.
I sometimes have to wipe off my discs before I can play them.

No smudges or fingerprints on disk. Used disk cleaner, and still nothing. Exchanged for a new game disk at BB, viola. Have no idea why the disk quit working. It was fine one day and kaput the next...no damage or anything. Just a fluke I hope, but it makes me think the online purchase is a good idea.

Btw, the reinstall wipes the Game Data and Saved Data, so thanks for the advice to copy the Saved data onto a USB card. It was simply a matter of going to the USB card and 'copy' to restore it. I am back in biz. Thanks mates.

ONLINE PERCHASE????? NO WAY! they are charging £19.99 for it, when you can get it in Blockbusters for £7.99 new. And the pluss side is, you get a nice box and disk to add to your GT collection. You would think that to download it would be cheaper. without having the cost of packaging or BD's.

Have to agree. Nothing beats having the box and disc in your hand. Funnily enough I'm not like it when it comes to music, but I guess music doesn't cost as much as games do generally.

Glad to hear you got back up and running again 👍
