game won't load

I tried 4 different gt4 games in my ps2 and none of them work. Any other game I put in plays. Whats going on. Gamestop guys said never seen it before. Am I only one. Any suggestions. Oh by the way it is a slim model.

I think I know what you mean. Occasionally, when I try to boot up GT4, it won't read the disc, going to the browser menu instead. I also have a slim. Just wait a day or two and try again. Then it should work. This applies to all games.

The laser may need cleaning/adjusting. There are a few threads here on gtplanet discussing it and how to do it, and a google search might be worthwhile too.

Do you just get browser menu or the black screen?
I had a similiar problem,it would load the game, but not the starting vid,and after couple of years I finally figured it out that I can solve it by just pressing the X

If the discs scratched, do this:

Apply a pea sized amount of toothpaste (cheap toothpaste) to the corner of a microfibre cloth and starting from the centre, wipe in small circles around the disc starting from the middle to end at the outside. After, rinse under lukewarm water (tap) and GENTLY dry in small circles. It should work afterward.:sly:

I have one of the original PS2s.:)

Never, ever, ever in circles, straight lines from inner to outer. The reasoning behind this, is the way the data is on a disc, the data is in a tight spiral starting inside, spiraling outward. If you make tiny scratches (buffing) parallel to the data (with the grain) the data correction would be less likely to work because it has to correct over a longer string of data. To where the tiny scratches (buffing) against the grain leave the data correction to do less work, due to only correcting small bits of data.

It is the same principal as cleaning your CD/DVD's always straight line inside out across the disc.

And if there is a scratch on the top of the disc, through the foil layer, you will never be able to recover the data, it is gone.

Got it fixed. Replaced unit. It wouldn't play dvd also

If you are having issues with both the PS2 discs, and DVDs, your issue could be the lens is dirty, or that the laser has lost intensity in the emitted beam. First to clean your lens, there are lens cleaners you could buy, me personally I would just take apart the PS2 and do it manually with a watered-down alcohol solution and cotton swab, followed by window cleaner. If the laser has low intensity, most game consoles and dvd players/burners have variable capacitors which can be adjusted to increase the intensity of the laser. These variable capacitors should be located near the laser/motor module, and should be adjusted with a non-metallic screwdriver. (note: I'm not 100% sure the slim PS2 laser intensity can be adjusted, but it is pretty common on laser devices, also I don't have a slim PS2 to do an exploratory surgery.)

I do it in spirals and the discs are fine afterward.:sly:
