There's absolutely nothing new in there at all - save for some speculation as to what the physics will be like (which is useless unless they've developed a fantastic fortune-telling device).

It won't be released until 2010 unless they have a surprise announcement withing the next couple weeks. They need at least 4 months to have a decent advertising campaign.

At this point I'm sure no one gives a darn about advertising.

We've got Prologue, that's advertisement enough. :P

For us they don't need to advertise, but we are only a small blip on their radar. They will need to advertise if they want to sell more than a few hundred thousand copies.

Um, no. "We" are not the millions of people that have bought GT games since GT1. No, they don't need a brisk advertisement campaign.

How many games that are coming out in September are you seeing ads for now? Rock Band Beatles? Nope. Modern Warfare 2? Nope. NFS Shift? Nope.

If you hype up a game 4 months before it comes out, they hype will go stale when the game hits shelves.

You're taking "hope for the best, but plan for the worst" to a bad level. Plan for the worst over in your corner please. This is going to be the year of the racer. To come out with GT5 and miss the Christmas rush is moronic.

"We" are also only 126,000 members. A majority of people that have bought a GT game don't even look at forums like this.

All three of those have had advertising in some way or another. Mostly by giving previews to game sites. There is more to advertising than commercials.

well looking at PD's record im sure they will have plenty of time to advertise here in the US and EU seeing as the us and eu have always had later release dates then the jpn release. but 4 months seems a little long 3 months is a more reasonable time frame. of a hard marketing campaign because theyve already been marketing the game with E3 video all the game sites around the world already doing interviews about the game KY with no release date reported yet. people who look at game sites know the game exists. trust me on that. so if they report the game at the TGS in September then that will give them ample time to promote the game in japan and more then enough time in the states and elsewhere.

I'm not going to speculate at all, however, it would be absolutely hilarious if PD announced GT5's release date right before T10's game releases.

Before the interwebs, how did you know a game was coming? I'll answer for you. You read magazines. The first blurb you read about GT2 kept you glued to mag rack, right? Then when the PS3 was approaching store shelves, you were glued once again for GT3 info. When there were write ups in every mag, you probably bought it, I know I did. When the games came, you bought them, just as I did. GT4 came out at a time when there were established interweb users. Which means you no longer depended on mags to give you info.

What's my point? You did not find out about the upcoming GT game in "advertisments" on radio and TV. You found out through articles containing information. Right around when the games were about to release, you started seeing commercials.

Again, airing commercials for games 4 months before they come out is a waste of millions of advertising dollars. That's what magazines and the internet is for.....free advertising and promotion of your product. Aka: industry buzz.

Now, what point were you trying to make about them needing to start advertising 4 months before a game's release?

Name 1 game that you see advertising RIGHT NOW that will be out in 4 months. How about this, 2 months? Better yet, surely you can name an ad for a game coming out in 1 month (30 days), not Aug. 4th.

Trust me, this is not the only place on the web that discusses Gran Turismo. Get your head out of the sand.

Those interviews are mostly for GT Mobile not GT5, the interviewers just try and make it about GT5. This is why I don't think there will be an announcement until after GT Mobile is out. They want to get as much attention as possible on that game before the PS3 one.

Edit for response to Dave:
1) As I said, there is more to advertising than commercials and what you listed are examples of this.
2) Most of the consumer base that will be purchasing the game doesn't read gaming magazines or even look at gaming websites.

I don't recall seeing a flood of GT5P advertising, do you?

Most of the people buying GT5 are well aware that it is coming AND they are web users. The reason they don't read the rags anymore is it's a waste of money simply because of them being a monthly publication. We get instant info on the web.

The people that have PS3's and bought GT5P and are not connected to the web for whatever reason did not find out about the game on the web. The vast majority of all the rest did find out about GT5P via the web.

Again, funneling money into an ad campaign is not going to happen right now. Word of mouth is doing just fine.

Actually they advertised GT5P quite a lot, it was mixed into the PS3 ads as well as individual ads.

i think it will come around then aswell. why cant polyphony just give a release date? or even just say that it will be released between now and ______?

I assume they won't announce a release date because of Sony. Sony's marketing and PR will be looking for the optimal announcement date, and release date that works best with their portfolio and outlook. They will release the game at a time that will benefit them the most and give them the most exposure. They are probably working on that date right now.

In the UK there was an advert for Assasins Creed 2 on Channel 5, I think it was during The DaVinci Code about 6 weeks ago & thats not due for release until November.
That said it is the exception & its very rare to see advertising outside of the 30 days before a release & with a game such as GT5 very little advertising is needed because: Hype, the web, word of mouth & game shop advertising will ensure just about everyone will know its coming!

For a game that showed its trailer at E3, do you think there won't be a release date? That's a rather strange point you've made.

People are asking PD to announce a release date. I think it's Sony who will announce it, and they haven't announced it yet, IMO, because of what I said above.
