So I did a quick search and came up with a few threads (most are 1-2 years old) with people asking for recommendations, but it seemed like there wasn't a consensus on which one was best since everyone had something different. I'm basically looking for something new-ish that's under $100 USD and can be used on a Playstation 3 (and 4 in the near future) as well as PC. I currently use a Turtle Beach PX21 (I think, will have to double check when I get home) which are a few years old.

A quick google search came up with these:

http://www.headphonesunboxed.com/best-gaming-headset/

Which give several good options but not sure which way I should go...

I'm told the Playstation Gold headset is a good bang-for-buck set and they can be had for under $100 USD. If you want something wired, the Logitech G35 may (or may not) be something you'd want to look into as I've heard nothing but good about it.

Wireless would be cool, but I already hate how much I have to charge my DS3 controller and it's usually at inappropriate times, so for now I'll stay wired. Will take a look at the Logitech, can't usually go wrong with their stuff.

Another option may be Corsair. They make some pretty decent cans from what @Terronium-12 has told me. Yes, I'm dragging him into this.

No, he can't run away.

I recommend Logitech here as a brand (that G35 may be a nice grab). I never had major issues with even their cheapest headsets, and has become my go to brand for PC accessories.

If you are after a consensus, you're on a folks errand. However, the more common compromise is the get the Astro A50 premixer and a decent pair of headphones.
I personally own a set of Triton 720+ and have enjoyed them immensely. And they too have a premixer that I will reuse once my headphones go bad.
I also see that Triton has a bunch of headsets around the $50-100 range with silly names. Not sure of the quality, but given the 720+, I can't imagine them being bad.
Oh, word of warning on Triton's, if you have a big head, you may find them uncomfortable.

I picked up a pair of the HyperX Cloud IIs, and so far, I've liked them quite a bit.

They come with both velour and faux-leather cups to suit your preference, the mic has great noise cancellation, and I find them to be very comfortable, even on my gigantic noggin (size 7 3/4 hat). There seems to be a handful of reviews on Amazon that are critical of the 7.1 surround performance, but I have don't have any complaints. The other day I was playing Fallout, and a noise "behind" me was so convincing that I jumped and whirled around, sure that somebody was in the room with me

Bump :P

Just bought a pair, to replace my G430's. Since my G430's since the audio is unbalancing sometimes, and crackly sound when using adjust volume.
