I'm looking for a gaming laptop at around $1500. Could be a little more if performance was worth the price. I have no interest at all in a desktop as I already have one. This will be for my son so he can take it to my grandfathers to play when he stays there.

I've looked at alienware and origin and they seem drastically over priced compared to other ones I've seen but I really don't know much about laptop quality so I need help picking one out.

Any help at all will be great.

I'll post links of ones I'm looking at so Peele can tell me what's wrong or good about them

I'm also considering the alienware 13 with the graphics amplifier. It comes with an 860m in the laptop but you can use any GPU with the amplifier and could give him one of my 670s to use with it.

Worked on Asus laptops before. Love the serviceability (which makes them easy to clean too.) Everything can be accessed from the bottom. Love the feel of the rubbery texture (its frictous, yet feels good). Also I love that the way the intake and exhaust are at the back, which voids any potential scenario of it overheating. You still have to factor in the warranty with the price, btw.

There are sites that allow you to custom build a laptop.

You choose the hardware, the case, RAM, GPU and they make it for you.

The biggest problem is not knowing how good the monitor will be with most of those places. That's my biggest fear when buying a laptop online. I bought my lenova online and it has one if the worst looking screens I've ever seen. I was hoping to get specific recommendations

These sager ones just look like a great deal. I think I'm going to put one together later and give them a try. They have pretty good reviews and seen to be by far the best deal out there. Hopefully the screen isn't terrible on them.

Laptop vendors tend to incorporate panels with high pixel densities for their gaming laptops. My laptop (Alienware M15x) 1600x900 and it looks awesome and icons are small. Get a good warranty with that thing too.

Go and look at one in a electronics shop ;)

I've never seen an electronic store that actually sells quality gaming laptops that are not way overpriced. Even the big computer stores around me don't have anything like I'm looking for. Not many places carry actual high end gaming laptops.

Dude, you're not going to buy it, you're going to look at the panel.

I don't know anyone who carries the laptops I'm looking at.

There's also and MSI one that has a 970m in it but I can't find anywhere that has it either in store.

Maybe if I lived near a major city but my closest one is Columbus Ohio and that'll turn into an all day trip. I don't have many days I can take an entire day to myself.

I'm pretty sure the sager is what I'm going to order and up the ram to 12gb and maybe get the 17 inch screen version.

I got a link to a laptop on another form yesterday and they had a few in stock at my closest micro center. I went and looked at it and it seems great. Screens have gotten much better on them in the last few years.

Here's a link to the one I bought. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_14176347377056&key=942623bb56b8a57a0f6a6ac786049e96&libId=9b49aa48-4761-4317-93a9-1efadc42049b&loc=http://www.overclock.net/t/1527764/need-a-gaming-laptop-in-the-1500-range#post_23228221&v=1&out=http://www.microcenter.com/product/439913/ROG_G751JT-CH71_173_Laptop_Computer_-_Black&ref=http://www.overclock.net/users/subscriptions&title=need a gaming laptop in the $1500 range&txt=http://www.microcenter.com/product/439913/ROG_G751JT-CH71_173_Laptop_Computer_-_Black

I can't imagine not being able to run any game made. Most should run in pretty high settings and it should be good enough to run games on the rift.

I did end up spending some on a 1 year anything happens accident warrenty . I've got 2 kids so I figured it was worth the money.

I felt great when I messed with the floor model in the store. Its going to be hard for me not to open it and try it out before he gets it on Christmas.
