Hey everyone.

I searched the forums but couldn't find an answer. Sorry if it's been asked before. Okay, i'm really terrified of the garage bug that wipes all your cars out of the garage. To find out the max speed of my cars, I would need to send them to the Test Course. So far, I haven't done this yet, but I am planning to. Someone told me that the Ford Taurus appears as a special NASCAR version but how can I tell them apart? I need clarification.

So, how do I know whether my game is a bugged copy or a debugged one?

Anyway, thanks.

In short, the Garage Bug takes effect on the earlier ("1.0" and "1.1") versions of the game. If you make more than eight 400m or 1000m runs, or more than 8 Max Speed Tests, you risk losing all the cars in your garage.

The easiest way to tell what version you have is to perform (or look at, without buying) a Racing Modification on the Ford Taurus SHO. If it looks like Mark Martin's #6 Valvoline NASCAR, then it's version 1.0, a known buggy version.

If the race mod looks yellow/orange/white, it's version 1.1 or "1.2". The licenses for the Muscle Car Cup only allow I-A holders in 1.1, I bebelive, and it's completely fixed for 1.2 versions.

Do a search for "version" in the GT2 section for some more information.

The best way to prevent losing all your cars is to not save any changes to the memory card after making your runs.

Hey Pupik. Well, the Ford Taurus SHO definitely isn't the Mark Martin's NASCAR one so that would mean that I have the newer game. My version also has the words "Platinum" in the front with lots of silver too.

However, the Muscle car cup needs an International A licence to participate in. Does that mean my version is still a buggy version?

Possibly. It sounds like you have the 1.1 version. Is it NTSC or PAL, because the versions I speak of are the NTSC versions.

If you can make a backup of the save (always recommended for any serious progress), do so , and see what happens. If you're using an emulator, it should be easy. If you're using an PSX/PSOne, just pick up some extra 1x cards on the cheap.

Thanks for the reply. I've got the PAL version and since i've got a spare memory card, i'll test it and see how everything goes.

Hate to burst the bubble, but ALL versions of GT2 are prone to the garage thief. I've had 3 or 4 garages deleted and my game is a “greatest hits” (version 1.2) that I bought new. However, I do LOTS of track testing so that could explain why it happened to me. In my case, every car from the lowly Subaru 360 to the Oreca Viper gets a shot at testing...and so far we are talking hundreds of tests over the course of 2 years.

One of my games to this day has records that are all jacked up with gibberish, and I managed to ‘catch’ the thief before any of my cars from this garage were stolen because I happened to notice one of my cars all the sudden had several thousand horsepower. I sold that 2,000 hp Accord Wagon as soon as I saw it.

What you can do is just buy a separate memory card and start doing all your testing there. If you do this, don't share records from this card to your regular one. Since I've started doing this process in the summer of 2004, I haven't lost any garages. And like Pupik said, NEVER save before checking your garage first. Then go to the main menu to save (instead of the testing area)>
