Only a couple of photographs so far, but more will be added when I take more and experiment more. Right now, I'm waiting to get some batteries for my camera...

Hi,

Nice to see someone else starting photography here. First things first, your first shot is overexposed. It may be something you can't change when shooting as I don't really know the camera. If you look at your Grandpa's face on the left hand side can you see all that bright white? Thats over-exposure, although it's common in B&W photography thats a bit too much. From looking at it, it appears to be that the sun was in his face, which isn't always the best of things to do. The composition of the shot seems alright, although could have done with your Grandpa to lower his chin slightly to look less alright and more relaxed, but thats personal opinion.

Your second shot, isn't quite as good if you as me. Whether this was intended or not, the main subject (Your Grandpa) is out of focus. However, the wall or cupboard behind him is in perfect focus! Its a simple matter of your camera being confused, possibly by the strange lighting conditions.

Anyway, hope comments aren't too harsh! After all, most of us want people that visit this section to improve! So take the comments more as constructive criticism.

Thank you very much for the comment, I will take it all on board.

I think his face must be really reflective because as the sun came through the window, his face actually lit up like this. In the colour shots I took of this angle, it was even worse...

I like working in black and white as it gives a very deep effect in my opinion. I will get more practice in tomorrow, as I had the camera for Christmas and the batteries are dead already - I took a lot of pictures over Christmas of family and such.
