Here is my cockpit I made over the weekend. I based it off my Toyota MR2 for the driving position. Cost less than $80NZD to get to this stage.

I got the passenger seat from a 466hpatw Toyota Corolla AE92 FXGT for free which helped keep costs down. I bought all the framing timber, 9.2m of it. :nervous: But the sheets of ply and MDf were floating around home.

I intend to add a handbrake and modify some parts to make it abit more comfy for those long haul races. Well all that is will be to move a vertical support and add in a removeable foot rest for my left foot.

Yes it's pink but I am going to paint it later on. Not sure what colour yet.

I was thinking black. Probably much easier too. White would get dirty to easy. I could even go red to match my car but thats silly as the inside of my car is completely black.

I might put some thin black carpet down under the pedals to finish is off.

MR2 is abit dirty there.

This is much better.

1990 SW20 MR2 NA Japanese import.

Poor Americans getting the bad SW21 and SW22 versions. I hadn't heard of the SW22 untill you said it. I knew SW21 was American but now I know that SW21 is NA and SW22 is turbo. New Zealand just got the SW20 which is either NA or Turbo. Using the 2.0l 3S-GE or 3S-GTE. I have the 3S-GE 165hp version.

165hp NA isn't bad. Plans for a turbo? I've had supercharger plans for my car for almost a year. Kits are so expensive lol

Brrr :nervous: must be cold playing outside. :D

Yes, just a little. Summer almost where I am. I plan on setting up the garage for a 24 hour race with 3 other mates when I get to that point in GT5. If we ever get it. May also do 3 screen if it works out by using my mates TVs and PS3s.

No turbo plans as it would be cheaper and easier to buy one thats turbo. Plus I'm not 25 and insurance would kill me. I'm not a fan of superchargers.

What cockpit do you have? I see you mentioned you buy branded stuff in the '$0 Cockpit build' Thread. Oh and what car do you have?

Nice MR2. I just sold mine. Older I got less practical it became. I forgot to get some measurements off the car. Anyway you can help me out with those? Mainly the Pedals and Shifter height and position. But I'd take everything you got on it. Thanks.

Heres (was) my MR2:

Wheel gap kills :P

Haha yea. Wheels are wrong offset and the rear tyres were too small. It's also standard but kills most new cars.

Nice MR2 there. I have a set of thoughs wheels with gravel tyres on them. And the 14" wheels my car had originally.

I'll try to gather all my drawings and turn them into one.
I just based it of my car so I did some drawings to figure out what timber I needed and then designed further as I built it.

Only problem with my setup is the seat base is taller than the MR2. So make sure you mount the seat at the right height relavent to the pedals and wheel. Unless you manage to get an MR2 seat.

Here is my almost final setup. Just need to add the handbrake when I get around to getting one.

I made some modifications to it. Added a foot rest for my left foot and rebuilt the pedal and wheel mount supports.

What? You modeled it after your MR2 and you're going to put STi logos on it? Shame.

(Thanks for those measurements you gave little while ago, came in handy)

I have an obsession with Subarus.

But now that I think about it I can put red TRD on it and still have it black.

Wow, you really think so? I haven't looked at too many homemade ones on here. I used chillicokes' cockpit as an idea which then evolved to something to suit my needs and the seat I used. And to make it moveable.

I have limited space as my house is tiny. The first photo from my 9th of Jan update shows quarter of my downstairs floor area.

Yeah, I do. Honestly most of the other ones are either over engineered/too complex/too expensive or cheap/ghetto or not really cockpits. Anyone with a saw and tape measure can make this one and it's cheap.

Nice cockpit! I've been looking around my area for materials too, I have a Mitre 10 Mega about 5-10min walking distance from my house. I want to make my own but the thing stopping me is the seat, I cant get a seat for cheap.

No junkyards anywhere around you? You can even use an office chair. That's what I was doing before. I made a stand for my DFGT, 2 boards connected to a post to hold the wheel. I took the base off and used the chair to steady the 2 boards. The stand is rock solid and I can use it comfortably for a couple of hours. I needed something cheap and quick for the time being. It worked well enough.

It lives still!! O_O

I remember looking at pics of your rig a couple years back and being amazed at the inverted pedals. Great work man.

Haha yes it still lives and still gets used. It got me to 423rd place in my region in this years GT Academy. The inverted pedals were more to make it like the Toyota MR2 I drive plus the pedals in the base were completely useless on cut pile carpet. I think the G27 has been in this rig since about 3 weeks after I bought it.

That looks great. Do you still have the dimensions and angles for the frame down where the pedals are?

Dragging this up from the dead.

There a few Pick a Parts in Auckland. A seat will set you back only $38.

I can measure these for you if you like.
I really like the cockpit.
Good job !

Any chance you could send me the plan or size ?

I haven't got plans but I can draw up some basic dimensions. Although a few of my friends commented that the steering wheel is quite high. It works for me as I have a tall body so my arms are up higher than most people when I sit down. You can always chop it down a bit.
