There are two "arcade" racing games I like. One is NFSU (the first one) and then Maximum Tune. But it isn't the "arcade" or "non-sim" racing feel I like, its how they deal in their own ways with straightway racing.

I loved the way NFSU had their drag races, besides the traffic. It was the way they implemented the gear shifting. It took good timing to shift correctly, just like it does in real driving.

Same goes for Wangan. The main thing I like about it, is the way you have to shift gears at the right time. It isn't the ricey feel or anything, but the timing and quickness of switching gears.

I think they need to at least look at putting something like this into GT5. Even if its only in a "drag" mode, or etc.

I also had a good idea to put down on the idea of the next logitec pro wheel having an H-Shift. In some arcade games they have a 4 way joystick that acts like 4 gears. The joystick's bottom end never leaves the center, and to switch gears you just point he joytick into the 4 differen corners. I think they could work with this idea and just make a joystick where the current "up/down" stick is on the wheel and have it be just a joystick you can move around, into 6 different places, and maybe a few others for special cars or reverse.

It would be:

1(left top) 2(center top) 3(right top)
4(bottom left) 5(bottom center) 6(bottom left)

Maybe add a button for a Center-Right / Center-Left for other gears or reverse.

Just something I thought it'd be fun to work with / think about.

The idea about the joy stick thing dosent quite do it for me. The whole idea is realisim. Thats why people want the H gate, for the feel of rowing the gears. Obviously sequential or paddle shifting is quicker and more precise. If I was going for performance I would go for a sequential or paddle shifted manual. Gear changes ar much quicker and can sometimes even be made "on power." The want for an H gate is purely for the enjoyment of rowing the gears. it's a "driving experience" thing.

Yea, same with the clutch feel.

Shouldn't it be:

1- top left
2 - bottom left
3 - top center
4 - bottom center
5 - top right
6 - bottom right

And If it has 6 gears, Reverse is in far top left, If there are 5 gears, Reverse is in bottom right.

(^ For more realism)
