Yes,.. what MSNBC reported WAS true,.. he was asked, no, forced to leave Iraq by the US military. I saw the daily show too,.. but leno was waaaaaay funny.

It showed a Cut-out Geraldo reporting from in front of the Alimo, saying "The troops are completely out of ammo, if the Mexicans came in now, the americans will be slaughtered",... and also in front of the Anne Frank house saying "There is a family that had been hiding on the third floor, behind a book-case for 2 days now,..(at this address) lets hope the german's dont find them"

He's in good company with Peter Arnette, two nitwits with an oversized sense of self importance. In the old days they'd both be hung.

FOX could have chosen not to air it anyway.
Yup.... Gen. Tommy Franks even said so; if the media was compromising the war, talk of embedded and non-embedded wouldn't matter because they'd be sent away. And I for one am glad Geraldo got the axe...he's got as much upstairs as what's in Al Capone's Vault...NOTHING!

And since when did FOX ever use good judgement before airing anything?

The MSNBC reporter Peter Arnett - one of the most gifted battle correspondents in the US - was NOT asked or forced to leave Iraq by the US military. He merely spoke his mind about the US troops on Iraqi television and was fired from his job by MSNBC. He's already got another job covering the war for a London newspaper and remains in Iraq today.

No - they only asked Rivera to leave. And he, being the weird freak that he is, didn't.

Good. I didn't think they had the power to force someone to leave a foreign country.

People should really read up about this stuff before posting total bull****.

Being the topic starter, I'm guessing that was aimed at me. Well,... FYI, I could give a flyin F what you think I should do. I wrote it, you read it, you replied, mission accomplished.

Peter Arnette is a mindless buffoon full of his own importance..One of the first rules in journalism is not to become the story. Also he stupidly allowed himself to be used for propaganda purposes by a beligerent country..so much for impartiality. The Idiot got fired not for speaking his mind but because he's a fool and badly representative of his chosen profession. The other nitwit Geraldo, a legend in his own mind should stumble onto a mine feild and report on whats going through his mind.

You don't care at all that it was a lie?

Thanks for your opinion on the topic. Moreso, thanks for stating it as if it were fact.

Uh, no,... it wasnt a lie. A lie is when a person knowingly gives false information.

I did it 'mistakenly', taking into consideration the television I has watched the previous night. And I still dont think my interpretation is completely false,.. there's certainly validity in there.

I know. But if I said it was 'untrue,' you would've simply given me an excuse, such as...

taking into consideration the television I has watched the previous night
Although there's no way I could care less, frankly.

The fact that Geraldo's a nitwit or Arnettes a buffoon ?
NBC fired Arnett on Monday for giving an unauthorized interview with state-run Iraqi TV, during which Arnett said the American-led war effort had initially failed because of Iraq's resistance.

Arnett, who apologized for his ``misjudgment,'' told VTM he was a ``casualty of the information war.''

``There are two wars taking place, Dany. You have the war of bullets and bombs, then you have the information war,'' he said.

He complained he was making ``just obvious statements'' about the war that should not have backfired the way they did.

``This caused a firestorm in America. I was called a traitor,'' he said, adding NBC ``let me crash and burn.''

Arnett, a New Zealander who won a Pulitzer Prize reporting in Vietnam for The Associated Press, gained much of his prominence from covering the 1991 Gulf War for CNN. One of the few American television reporters left in Baghdad, his reports were frequently aired on NBC and its cable sisters, MSNBC and CNBC.

NBC was angered because Arnett gave Sunday's interview without permission and presented opinion as fact.

Now after reading his revised statement above..compare it to his transcript of his apology...he's making excuses and covering his ass...buffoon is too mild a term. In my humble opinion.

Heh...

Here's more on Mr Buffoon arnett..
“IT WAS wrong for Mr. Arnett to grant an interview to state-controlled Iraqi TV — especially at a time of war — and it was wrong for him to discuss his personal observations and opinions in that interview,” NBC News President Neal Shapiro said in a statement issued a day after a network spokeswoman initially defended the correspondent. “Therefore, Peter Arnett will no longer be reporting for NBC News and MSNBC.”
National Geographic, for whom Arnett first traveled to Baghdad, said it, too, had “terminated the service of Peter Arnett.”
“The Society did not authorize or have any prior knowledge of Arnett’s television interview with Iraqi television,” it said in a statement, “and had we been consulted, would not have allowed it. His decision to grant an interview and express his personal views on state-controlled Iraqi television, especially during a time of war, was a serious error in judgment and wrong.”
Arnett, who won a Pulitzer Prize reporting in Vietnam for The Associated Press, appeared on NBC’s “Today” show Monday to apologize for his statements. (MSNBC.com is an NBC News-Microsoft joint venture.)
Since being hired by an anti war daily Arnett the buffoon has retracted in his words his " most sincere apology " after he got his new job for a very small daily..the dudes a troll.
Still more I'm having too much fun....
However, in The Daily Mirror, a British tabloid newspaper that announced later Monday that it had hired him, Arnett declared that “I report the truth of what is happening here in Baghdad and will not apologize for it.”
“I am still in shock and awe at being fired,” Arnett said.
“Fired by America for telling the truth,” said the headline on the article announcing the hiring of Arnett, whom the newspaper called “the legendary war reporter.”
The Daily Mirror is vehemently opposed to the war and has led a vigorous editorial campaign against President Bush. On Thursday, its front page was devoted to a photo of a crying Iraqi civilian above a photo of a grinning Bush, with the headline, “Dead British troops paraded on Iraqi TV, 14 civilians killed in Baghdad market and Bush whoops it up. War? HE LOVES IT.”
A week ago, the newspaper’s only front-page headline declared: “Still anti-war? Yes, bloody right we are.

The buffoon is working for the Arab papers now...
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Peter Arnett, fired by NBC earlier this week for giving an interview to state-run Iraqi television, is reporting for pan-Arab satellite channel Al-Arabiya, the station said Saturday.

``He (Arnett) is an able reporter who has covered wars before and who knows Iraq well,'' the Dubai-based station's editor-in-chief Salah Nejm told The Associated Press.

``I think he is unbiased and has a lot of experience,'' Nejm said.

Arnett started reporting for Al-Arabiya on Friday, becoming its third correspondent in Baghdad. His reports are voiced over in Arabic.

NBC fired him for giving an unauthorized interview to Iraqi TV, during which he said the U.S.-led war effort had initially failed because of Iraq's resistance.

NBC said the company was angered because Arnett gave the interview without permission and presented opinion as fact.

Arnett, a New Zealander, has since apologized for his ``misjudgment'' but described himself as a ``casualty of the information war.''

He won a Pulitzer Prize reporting in Vietnam for The Associated Press and covered the 1991 Gulf War for CNN, a network he also left under a cloud.

Arnett was the on-air reporter for a retracted 1998 CNN report that accused U.S. forces of using sarin nerve gas in Laos in 1970. He was reprimanded and later left the network.

Since being fired by NBC, Arnett has been hired by a private Belgian TV network, a state-run Greek television channel and The Daily Mirror of London, a tabloid vehemently opposed to the war.

Al-Arabiya is owned by an Arab investment group that includes Saudi, Lebanese and Kuwaiti investors.
