Getting a phone for my wife, Is the HTC One M8 still fast by today's standards?

Does your wife need the latest and greatest?

Or will a last year phone that is still good work fine.

The nexus 4 is very old in terms of phone standards but it is still a very good phone.

Same thing here.

I have an M8, and currently don't see a reason to upgrade it to an M9 or a Samsung Galaxy S6. It's still a great smartphone.

She doesn't need the latest she just wants to get a phone that will not be so slow that will freeze when trying to answer a call (happened with the Sony quite often). The other problem is that the contract runs for 24 months, so if it is a bit slow now then in two years it will be awful. I have never had a new smartphone and never been on a plan that gives you a phone so I don't really know how it all works in the end. I have had only basic nokias until my mother in law gave me an iphone 3gs last year which I killed by dropping it in the toilet ( was drunk).

Cool thanks! Do most apps feel responsive? Do you think it will still be reasonably fast in two years time?

It's hard to gaze into the future of course, but yes, it's fast with todays apps. 👍 Do you have any specific apps in mind?

I think basic stuff like facebook will be used which can make her current phone crawl, it is pretty sad. Then anything music related. I think she uses menulog and other apps to book or buy things (gumtree, hoyts, etc). Maps and directions should work fast, nothing worse than missing a turn because your phone froze in the middle of a ride.

HTC M8 is plenty fast enough. I have an Xperia Z which is a year older, its now coming up 2 1/2 years old. Runs no problem at all. Sure it won't run the latest games the best but generally has no problem running whatever I throw at it.

That stuff works flawlessly on my M8. Use FB all the time, as well as the music player (plenty of GBs worth of music on my SD card). Google Maps also runs great. Personally, I use Navigon as navigation and it also runs great. 👍

Thanks guys! I picked up the M8 for my wife today, I also got one for me as well :) So far feels great and it is very, very responsive. Thanks again for your input it was very helpful.
