Here is an excellent example of unfair penalties (No name shaming here). Sorry its only in picture form (not exactly a tech wiz).

Case in point. White ferrari loses control.

Ferrari then moves over the track.

My car then hits the Ferrari. I get 10 second penalty as system believes I am at fault. This scenario is similar to a handball when ball is struck from less than a foot away.

Couldn't do anything about it. If I were to move I'd have hit it regardless. One of them many frustrations in gt sport.

Welcome to the club, I just lost 4 places for an unfair yellow flag penalty in the last corner. If I had stopped I would have lost even more places though, just the bad luck of the flag timing and lousy reset. I gave the accident wide berth losing time, still got nailed.

Yet once you realize lower SR means better match making, no need to worry about it anymore. (if you're max SR that is)

Agreed. Looking for others who have had other bizarre incidents where they received penalties.

Well, it's not a real human that's handing out the penalty's as it is in real races. The system is based out of cold calculations that is predetermined, so it is looking constantly at certain rules and if these are broken. The only thing the penalty system saw here is that you hit that Ferrari hard in the side with the front of the car.

I don't know much about how this works in dept, but i can imagine its not very easy balancing everything together and make it work for every situation that can happen. It's an written program, not an fully fledged AI. So until skynet takes over as an judge in every game played, i guess we just have to make the best of it and let the developers constantly work on it

Yesterday I had a fun one, got nailed by auto drive by a rage quitter, SR Down and knocked out of the track.

Here I'm thinking, surely he's not going to cross the road like that.

Yet the driver was already in the pause menu, car vanishes right after hitting me with the flashers on.

Someone overshot and knocked him out in another bad track re-entry.
When you quit, park you car first!

It might look like you couldnt do anything about it but maybe you could have. It looks like you had nowhere to go because you didnt anticipate it happening leaving you with no options. Anticipating trouble before it happens is a big aspect of racecraft. In this case maybe you could have seen him mis his braking point, this means possible trouble for you already and could have been spotted a couple seconds before your first picture. Then he runs very wide, this is another clue that causion from you is needed cause he might be about to lose it, like he eventually did. Spotting these things and acting to it by slowing down a little to keep your options open when it does go wrong keeps you in the race.

Again not saying it was your fault or anything and it is hard to tell what actually happened from a couple screenshots. But just something to keep in mind and will have you finishing more races without running in to trouble.

Three instances yesterday on race A with the 2000GT, first one the car in front of me lost control and drove right in front of me and I rammed him and saw a message at the bottom that he received 10 second penalty, second instance also on race A getting rear ended going into the tunnel and receiving a 10 second penalty, third instance on Kyoto at the final hairpin before finish line an NSX decided to brake late and get in front of me but at a bad time, I was proceeding to turn into the hairpin and he cut in front of me like an a-hole on the freeway would and gave me a 10 second penalty after hitting his bumper- I literally threw my hands up.

I managed to upload my video of said incident

I agree with what @Shottah072 said above.

Not saying it is your fault or that you deserved a penalty.

I learned with this system, you have to be constantly looking for trouble. In that video, I saw the car going wide. I would have kept checking him to see what he was doing. Be prepared for him to spin. I had to endure those penalties a few times. Now, I am more alert and expecting things to happen.

Someone mentioned the yellow penalty above. Well, that is a whole other can of worms. That penalty needs to be scrapped until it gets fixed. You should never get penalized for passing the cars involved in the accident. Much less going past the car that is off the freaking track!

I have lost track of been knocked off the track only to lost about 10 positions and SR and then get back on track with a 5 second penalty

While I agree that you didn’t deserve a penalty, in a real race, your day is over completely. Also, in the long term, this happens from time to time but will be merely a blip in your overall SR. I think there are some issues with the penalty system, but it’s better than 95% of racing games’ penalty systems.

Just like a ball sport, a bad call will happen here and there, but it’s overall effect on a game or season is negligible.

I agree that this kind of situation is frustrating and penalty's are sometimes given unfairly, however the Ferrari lost it quite a long way in front of you, one of the biggest problems in my opinion is that most drivers are only focused on what they are doing, it is quite important to show some awareness of what happens not only to you but also what happens in front and behind, situational awareness is a very crucial aspect in Racing

One of the many issues of the GT Sport penalty system...

I got something similar at the end of this video, unavoidable penalty leading to significant places lost :banghead:

I had a similar penalty tonight except in my case the car (Ferrari in your case) didn’t lose control but tried to purposely run me off the track he then lost control and ended in front of me just as that Ferrari did with you, and I end up getting the penalty, makes what should be a fun game very annoying
