First of all download the XP Theme Set found here. Not only does it change the desktop icons to look like XP ones, it changes every folder icon, drive icon, the enchilada.

Now to get the XP taskbar your going to need a program called Windowblinds (thanks to Viper Zero for telling me about it).

Once you've got that, we need to find a decent looking XP Skin. Go here (Thanks to Viper Zero again). Apply an XP skin you like and boyakasha! XP on your crappy old OS!

Yeah. It's alright if you don't have the scum of the Earth as your ISP. My ISP only allows 10 hours per connection...leaving it overnight isn't an option unfortunately. :(

And with my piece of crap computer it'd most likely freeze half way through. I left it for about an hour while it was downloading some 7MB thing and froze up before that even finished....

It freezes up when I leave it defrag overnight as well. :grumpy:

Unfortunatly Micro$oft have thought of the download route, and you can't register XP without quoting the serial number of the box.

Or, you could *NOT* break the law, and purchase it legally.

XP does not have to be 'registered' with M$. It simply has to be 'activated'.

And that 10 hour ISP is bull. That's just not fair. You could look into something like Getright at www.getright.com. It'll allow you to resume downloads after you reconnect.

Microsoft has also changed their policy on how it treats piracy. Pirated versions (which have a handfull of serial numbers) will be dealt with through Windows Update. Go get Service pack 1. I dare you.

 There's just nothing like sugar coating strychnine is there? :D

Boy you could really mess with a tech ghosting your computer though...;)

You could install a Mac theme...for those hopefully desperate.

We could all save up our money for the hardware to support the 64-bit version of XP. I tell ya, we could rule the world.

Thanks for the links, and sorry for all the one liners...

Yeah, and I wished I had the $150 for XP pro. Sorry, but I don't have that kind of money. I paid $140 for Microsoft Flight Sim 98 and 2002 pro, Microsoft doesn't deserve any more than that.

Microsoft can also go kiss my booty for SP1. I have all of the updates that were included with SP1 without actually downloading SP1.

This may be a little drastic, but I highly doubt that M$ owes you anything, nor are you entitled at birth to their software, which btw, you only lease from them for a price, M$ retains ownership of the software. If you bought win2k, then perhaps you should use it. :)

Just a thought, but why pay good money for something just to have it collect dust on the shelf?

Good luck with your desire to get back at M$ for something that they apparently did towards you. :D

'Just trying to keep things in perspective here...'

Why does everything in America have to be so cheap? :(

Not everyone. Just people who hate Microsoft because Bil Gates is rich and that means he is evil.

I rather like the guy. Last time I checked America was still a capitalist country, but some people don't think it should be. Oh well.

An operating system is the last thing I am going to download on the internet. Downloading simple programs is bad enough, but downloading an operating system is just stupid. How can you be sure that the file isn't infected with some virus, or has a trojan horse in it somewhere, or something else is altered to really **** you over when you install it? I mean, it's an operating system, if it doesn't work right, your entire hard drive could be lost.

It's not, retail is more like 299 or 399 for XP pro. You can get academic editions (like mine) for 100-150 depending on what version you get. Or you can get pirated versions (like Viper, and like I used to have before XP came out officially.) for free. The thing about the pirated versions is that MS is aware of it when you download through Windows update, and getting SP1 will basically disable your system in some cases, and at the very least prevent you from using Windows update.

I've downloaded many programs (just like everyone else) including XP and I haven't received any viruses. Just download the file that the most people are sharing and you'll be OK. I don't know anyone who wants to share a 500 MB file that has a virus and waste their bandwidth.

Make your OS look like XP? Oh, that's easy...

The only reason the SP1 doesn't let you update is because the ISO that was floating around was only given with one serial so everybody used that. So all SP1 does is check your serial. Their is an easy fix online so you can change your serial to a different one and it will work

And I think a lot of people hate Bill Gates is because didn't he steal DOS which started his career. Then didn't he start stealing ideas from Steve Jobs(so others steal from Bill Gates and he gets mad)? I read that somewhere and saw the movie "Silicon Valley"(sp?) and thats right according to that.

He didn't "steal" DOS. He bought it.
He didn't "steal" ideas from Steve Jobs. He incorporated the concepts into Windows. Bill Gates didn't get mad when people stole stuff from him. Just because you take someone to court doesn't mean you're mad at them. It's all about money.
The reason bill Gates is hated is because people are cheap, lazy, and don't like not being able to customize and hack every piece of software they come across. There's also the people that don't think microsoft should continue holding their monopoly. Hating M$ is not the same as hating Bill Gates. Outside of that crowd, it's just a matter of preference.

Ok, buying DOS and making loads off it wasn't that bad. But "Incorporating the concepts into windows", then what would you consider stealing ideas?
And I'm sure hes not happy that people are pirating his software.

Mac OS is always stealing Windows concepts. That's how the world works. Steve Jobs just claims that he does it better, which he usually does. I think he might be unhappy that people are distributing pirated versions of his software, but I doubt he's angry about the actualy pirating. I wouldn't be, if I were him.
