Originally, the 911 RS was introduced to meet homologation requirements. They came with naturally aspirated engines and basic interiors, along with all the necessary aero enhancements. Which of these winged racers is your favorite?

I went with the 993 Carrera RS, due to its understated exterior appearance that has nice curves, but still evokes the original shape.

Well, I like all of them equally (it's a borderline obsession, really), because RS represents the perfect car in my eyes. The racecar for the road.

I would say the 993 Carrera RS Clubsport is my favorite. Something very appealing about a stripped out car, complete with a cage, that I can also drive to the store with. It's also the best looking, if you ask me, especially in Riviera Blue.

Bonus! My least favorite is the 997 GT2 RS. It sorta breaks the tradition of naturally aspirated RS models. They should have just called the top tier model the Clubsport, like the previous GT2s, instead.

I was really torn between the 964 RS and the 997 RS 4.0, but I had to go for the 4.0 in the end.

Not yet driven any RS Porsche, so went for the 2.7 on dream-car appeal alone.
They're all dream cars to me, I've never driven a 911 in my life, yet they are my favorite cars. Funny, because I've driven a Lamborghini, 2 Ferraris and various other Porsches, but never a 911. Not even a damn ride in one. :(

What if someday I drive one and don't like it? Like meeting a hero.

Went for 3.0 RS as it's the closest thing to an IROC 3.0 RSR.

You'll struggle not to like it. Brilliant cars.

I've only driven 991s so far. I've heard the aircooled ones can be an acquired taste - apparently a lot of people buying them because they're fashionable/investable right now actually go off them quite quickly, because they do have unusual quirks.

993 Clubsport made this tricky, but in the end I think I would pick the original 2.7

The newest variation of the GT3 RS is the one I chose. Only because it looks better than the rest.

Shocked to see the relatively unknown 3.0 Carrera RS taking the lead in the poll. If anything I expected the most famous, the 2.7, to take the lead.

Not only that, but the lack of love for the 964s is surprising too.

964s have grown on me a lot but the 993 is what does it for me the most. The fusion of the modern 964 body style with 90s streamlined design makes me appreciate it the most. I'm a huge sucker for 90s design.

As a Porsche nut, a very difficult decision for me... I could argue a case for any era, depending on the circumstances

I've never driven a 'performance' early car, but would love to try a 73RS. I'm sure the 3.0 would be faster, but the front bumper and rear wing don't look right to me.

I drove a 964RS around 10 years ago on the road. Didn't like it. Lovely engine noise, but felt way too stiff for British roads - might be nicer on a track. The 3.8 964 is supposed to be a wondrous thing... it looks mean as **** (but not in white), is super light weight, and has a proper engine.. I'd take one of those over any other 964.

I've driven a 993RS at Oulton Park... at the time (20 years ago), it was magnificent. But I don't think the 993 really moved the game on from the 964 that much. Plus I never really understood why people like the styling of 993's, and the splitter on the RS CS is hideous.

Not driven a 996RS, but have driven a MK2 GT3, and I read/heard they are a more extreme (ie; stiffer) version of those. Amazing engine/steering. Bit tricky on the limit. Very set-up sensitive.

No RS experience in 997's, but plenty of experience in GT3's, and these really are sublime! The gen1 RS isn't really much different to the GT3... the gen2 GT3 is a better car than the gen1 RS, and the gen2 RS is on another level. I would love a blue and gold 3.8RS

Now have a couple of hundred miles in a 991 GT3. After the initial 'WOW, THIS THING IS AMAZING' wore off, I don't think one would be for me, other than as a track day car. Yes, they are technically amazing, and you could easily run one as a daily (they are incredibly refined), but the gearing is way too long, and as effective as the gear box is, I'd prefer a manual.

Leaving the best (IMO) to last... the 4.0. For me, after a CGT, this is the pinnacle. Not massively different to the 3.8, but different in the right areas, Pretty much a full motorsport engine and a manual box. Involving (ie; challenging!) handling. All 997's have brilliant steering - better than the 991's.

So a 997GT3RS 4.0... preferably RHD, in PTS Mexico Blue like the one JZM have sold a couple of times... the last time for >£400k. If not, a 3.8 in blue and gold.

I would be very happy :D

EDIT....

JZM have a blue 3.8... where can I find £185k double quick?

Don't worry, except for the 964RS, every 911 I've ever driven had been wonderful in its own way. My neighbor has a 964 targa. It's not the prettiest 911 (never really liked targa's until the 991) and it's a bit wallowy (quite soft springs). But it's still lovely to drive. It has such light and delicate steering, and with a thin steering wheel it's lovely round country roads.

When you get the chance, you'll love it :)

At this point I'm trying to find a way to actually drive a 911. They seem to be universally praised by those who have driven them. You're very lucky to have experienced so many different models.

I am very lucky... Lucky to have a number of friends who also love Porsche's, and who trust me to drive their cars from time to time 👍

Just need my brother-in-law to buy a CGT and my life would be complete :D

Oh damn. Between the 993 RS (favourite generation) the outstanding 2.7RS and the amazing GT3 RS 4.0, I don't know what is my favourite :ill:
