Right, so the time has come to change my hair style. I've had the same mop for about 2 years now and I would like a change, personally I'd like to keep the length but if you guys could find one that would work better when it's short then go ahead. The main problem with my hair is that it's very thick, which makes it hard to style and the chances of it going straight naturally are zero, shame really as I'd love straight hair but straightening it takes the biscuit. Here's my current mop, sensible suggestions only please. (i.e No afro's). Thanks in advance. 👍

My wife's hair is about that wavy if she doesn't straighten it. Have you tried a straightening iron? There are also some high priced chemical straightening treatments that last a long time.

The natural thick waviness you have is actually pretty sought after, and has just as many possibilities as you could if it was straight. But if you really do want to straighten it, maybe an organic hair relaxer? I've tried those, work like a charm :D:tup:

If you keep it wavy, I would suggest a simple comb-back, maybe, so long as you're not too attached to the bangs. The Andre Rieu look, keeping your current length or shortening it a bit, looks like it could work nicely. Even with the thickness of your hair, I don't think it would be too hard to style (then again, I'm no hairdresser ).

I also think if you tussled it a little more, you could get an interesting look. Davey Havock had long wavy hair a little bit ago, but you can tell by just looking at it that he greased it up a lot - not sure if you would be into that, but if you are, go for it :D I don't think his hair was as thick as yours, but he had a lot of it. A look I think you can achieve with a little bit of work :D

And that's my two cents

Brand required. I need to research this.

...I don't remember the exact brand :scared:

Besides, the one I use was for girls' hair  But I just picked it up at Walgreens/CVS. I'd surfed around for organic straighteners with no lye (the stuff that burns like heck, apparently :yuck:) and went for it.

They do make these relaxers for men, I'm just not sure of any brand names :ouch: Most of them are directed for African-American hair, but so was the relaxer I used and ethnicity didn't seem make a difference to me :D

Depending on the hair type, you could also just take a straightener to it and see what happens. That was my first attempt before I tried the relaxer and it straightened my hair, but mine is very curly and went right back after maybe a week

I'm asking for my wife. I cut my hair down to stubble every few weeks.

Gotchya 👍

But I don't remember the brand  Lemme go through my bookmarks and see if I can find it 👍

(EDIT: Got it: Soft & Beautiful Botanicals :D:tup:

It being an ethnic brand didn't seem to make much of a difference to me, and I've read that most of them work on anyone, so long as it's a milder one. But this is organic so it doesn't use the harsh chemicals of other relaxers, which means there's a way lower chance of damaging hair. However, the chance is still there, so I'd be careful. The hair texture is much different, after all.

But again, I'm no hair dresser so I wouldn't know for sure.)

I did use an afro relaxer on my hair last year, not that effective mind. Here were the results. :D

That's actually pretty good 👍

And the style you have in this picture is basically what I had in mind for the new look

I have longed for this thread.

I think you should shorten it to shoulder length, chemically straighten it (it'll stay straight for a loooong long time, even when wet) and dye it dark purple.

This one.

Then some black contact lenses.

No problem 👍

But like I said, I would definitely do some research, seeing as the difference in hair textures might cause a problem or two. As recommended in the instructions, I would advise she just test it on a very small portion of hair first :D:tup:

I actually second this notion :D

The length and the straightener, that is. But the purple does look pretty good :sly:

But I am...unsure as to the contact lenses

(Double-post, sorry.)

As much as I like that idea, my school would have a fit if I dyed my hair Purple! I am leaving in May however. How long do you reckon it would stay straight for?

Roughly 4-6 months. Depends how quickly your hair grows out. New hair obviously won't be straight but the weight of the hair covers that up for a fair while.

Put loads of gel in it, so it sticks out straight in all directions. That would look so cool. ;)

Well that's handy, I guess I'd have to get my split ends chopped out as well.

Yes, definitely. Chemical straightening is great if you don't fancy straightening it by hand every day, but it can be quite harsh on your hair. For about a week it's gonna feel like satan's back hair, but a few goes with some repairing conditioner will have that sorted.

You could shorten it slightly, still keeping some length, and sweep it to one side? Kinda like mine (you know what that looks like) but longer. It's low maintenance, just requires washing thoroughly every day to keep the volume, possibly blow drying if you want it as exaggerated and wavy as mine is, else it starts looking flat.

You could try something like this:

(Don King...)

Otherwise, just have your hair, the way you like it. 👍

Since you're in a band I'd go with "Bleach Blonde" , sorta the early Johnny Winter's look:

Might be fun for a while:bowdown:

Any particular ones to recommend?

It's a nice idea mate, I'll definitely put it into consideration. :D

#4 standard cut back and sides. Leave about 6 inches growth on top to cover your hungover face or to gel as high as possible to use as a weapon when you bump into Le ZZ.
