I was considering to make this thread a couple weeks now since it's been some time on GTP12 and comments on articles are still disabled. I just noticed the 'news article comments temporarly disabled' note vanished completely under articles, so we will not get any comment section at all? :boggled:

That sucks. We have threads on most topics in the news, but the comments gave a different discussion environment, and personally I enjoyed reading the reactions there much more. Yes, it may be a pain to moderate, and it may be spammed with people posting wishlists or whatever crap, but I think it's best to keep that there. The way of showing replies under a specific comment was very nice too.

I think they should return.

Considering how nasty half of the comments (many of them from notable GTP members, no less) were precisely because they were so hard to moderate, I personally don't see too great of a loss with their passing. It certainly doesn't look good for the site when so many of the followups on the news articles this site prides itself on became such cesspits akin to the worst of YouTube pissing matches (I even saw varieties of "why don't you go kill yourself" to end arguments quite a bit more than once).

The thing is well is the comments section seemed to give people this air of anonymity - not that this was the case of course since everyone needed an account to comment and their name was visible; however frequently I noticed people acting like entirely different people in those comment sections compared to how they behaved on the forums.. it was an incredibly odd spectacle to behold.

In short, I don't think it's a big loss but if they returned in a new format I certainly wouldn't be disappointed.

I like it the way it is. Keep it nice and clean.

There is an information. It`s officially posted by Jordan or a staff member. Nuff said.

I don`t need any comments from 13 y/o kids or people who like to put in their two cents on each and every topic.

I agree with most people here, leave them off. They always turned into arguments and silly wish lists. They served no point what so ever.
