Given cars that aren't worth anything?

I'm new to GT so be kind :) Now why is it that when you gain a license you are given a car but then are unable to sell it as it's not worth anything? I was hoping to build up the credits.

The reason for these cars being worthless is that they are concepts or non-existant cars in reality. Now, this is a classis mistake of the GT games, because such cars would be priceless - and GT interprets this as worthless, rather than of almost endless value. Some of them would be worth well into the millions - the Daimler Motor Carriage, for instance - but to us, they're nothing but trophies.

Although, having said that, I would never sell a car given to me for a licence achievement - I hear they have more power than any version you buy yourself.

Well, you kind of get what you paid for them, so they're a better deal than any other cars you purchase which seem to lose about 75% of their value the minute you sign on the dotted line

It's just one thing that's really odd to me and I'm with you on this, steveq3. In GT1 you could win the same cars over and over from a series of races and build your skills & credits. GT2 awarded a car for almost every race individually, which means if you entered the FF Challenge for instance, you'd win 3 cars since there were 3 races. Kinda ridiculous, but at least there were tons of races in that game (more than GT1, anyways) that kept us occupied.

And then in GT3 they had the random car thing...but you could still make some cash off the fantasy & concept cars you'd win if you sold them. All those F1 cars in GT3 aren't totally based on 100% reality, remember; yet you could sell them for at least six figures. So yah, I kinda don't get why we can't make a few credits off most of the cars we sell now. Maybe with GT4, PD didn't want to create any sort of bias.

maybe PD wanted to make it a little harder to earn the credits (however they made the capri and dtm not that hard at all to earn credits with).

but you have to have self discipline not to do the money "cheat".

i am currently through a second time and am currently at 65% and 4 - 5 million in the bank, with only buying the pick-up i think i could go another 10% with-out buying another car. so there for i have had no need to sell any cars to earn any money. so i dont care if the have any value at all.:)

And then they created B-Spec mode. Genius of them.

I believe that only occurred in GT3. The only cars that come with more power than normal from licence tests in GT4 are ones that can't be purchased new (Mercury Cougar, Jensen Interceptor).

Ah, of course. I just seem to remember someone (it may have been Famine) referring to the National B Lupo as being the most powerful one of its model you could get - and you can buy those. :boggled:
