Going back to GT2 after GT3

Okay, so I lent my copies of GT3 and GTC to a mate of mine, and after about three hours of study I'm up for a little racing action.

So, I drag out my Fanatec wheel which I bought to play the Sony 2001 Formula One game ( ) and to replace my Madcatz which I donated to my half-brother and his kids after many years of sterling service.

After some fiddling I finally managed to get the analogue pedals talking to GT2 and Toca World Touring Cars.

I ran some arcade laps of Midfield and I was shocked at how difficult it suddenly became! I had no braking markers, so it was like re-learning the circuits, but worst of all, I've become dependant on the force-feedback effect of the Logitech wheel! It took a while to re-learn driving without it, I can tell you. Pretty cool having that gearstick again, though, rather than the paddles behind the wheel.

It did bring home how much better GT3/PS2 is at portraying depth, especially the high speed 'flip-flop' coming onto the main straight.

TOCA was good, even if the cars are dreadful to look at - need to get back into form for TOCA Race Driver at the end of August! I pushed a couple of people off at Hockenheim, include putting a guy into a wall at 100moh - guess it's like riding a bike, you never really forget.

I tend to go back and forth. I have a Naki wheel and I cannot adjust to it. I normally use the Dual Shock. Midfield is a bear without the braking markers. I use the lightposts before the first tunnel for my markers.
I also have a deeper appreciation for Seattle Circuit after trying to run it cleanly in GT3.
On the Plus side I drive much more smoothly in GT2 now.

Same here, but I just hate the fact you cant get the throttle control in the gt2 game.
I hate going back and forth between gt3 and gt2 as it makes my driving a little fun trying to reorganize my synapsis for each game. ;)
Gt2 rocks though and I DO miss the tracks not in gt3. Its all good thought, its fun to play the two, just not right after each other. :haha:

I actually went through and got all the licenses in GT2 last night. I have a multi-page mem card that doesn't work on the PS2 and I couldn't be bothered cranking up the ol' PSX to find my old save file.

I'm using the Fanatec wheel which has analogue pedals for PS2, and I don't have the same issue with throttle control. What I'm really missing is the force-feedback to tell what the car's doing - I had a couple of spins in the old RX-7 I bought because I couldn't feel what the car was doing under brakes.

I was happy with the licenses though - got through all the special licenses first go (including Grindelwald), and got quite a few silvers (a bit under half). So many good tracks we missed out in GT3 - Red Rock Valley, Grindelwald, and I'd forgotten about the Rome Night Track (although it does look like something out of Ridge Racer).

I probably won't be able to play GT3 when I get it back off my mate!

I tend to play GT2 more than GT3. Probably because GT2 has all my favorite cars (muscle cars, Trampio FTO, etc.), all my favorite tracks (Tahiti Road, Grindelwald, High Speed Ring, etc.), and just overall more FUN stuff to do than GT3 does.

Plus there's the ease with which you can build hybrids in GT2 with a GS Pro compared to GT3's Sharkport or GS2.

I know what you mean. I'm a huge fan of the TOCA series, and knowing how good the force-feedback was in Colin McRae 2 on the PC was, I know Codemasters will ace it. 1 month to go!
