Whilst Iw as helping ma old man out today with changing the oil on his 300ZX, I started just thinking about sports cars and how they've changed along with seasons. I was trying to pick out what had to be my favourite period of sports cars. In the end I was split between the 1960's to 1972 ish (from the days of the Cobras etc. to the 917's) and from 1993 (when super cars were allowed to compete in Le Mans) to 1999 (the last great year of sports cars IMO. Particularly the 1990's period os sports car racing, as for example the Le Man 1993 grid comprised of cars from: Porsche, Venturi, Lotus, Jaguar, Ferrari, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Lamboghuini (sp?), Marcos and many more. I don't think we're going to see grids like that again.
So what's everyones favourite period of sports car racing?

For some reason, I've appreciated the mid-late 1990s. I think this was a time of beautiful cars and extremely exotic race cars. Stuff you probably wouldn't see on the road. And they were pure race cars. Ferrari 333SP (I love the Momo one), Dodge Viper GTS-R, Panoz Esperante GT1, McLaren F1 GTR, Porsche 911 GT1, and many more. And not to mention the Supra, Skyline, and NSX that raced before this time period.

Uniqueness, exoticness, what more can you ask for? I think I even remember some classic techno music around this time. Like most of "The Saint" soundtrack, Crystal Method, Prodigy, all of them.

For variety and beauty i do not think that you can beat the cars created fromt eh late 50's to the late 60's... Then for rally i would have to say the 80's gave us some wonderful machines... Then of course the early 90's we saw some great cars from japan, and the last real 911's...

John: I completly agree with you 👍. 1994 and 1995 I think had to be maybe the best years. And there was some killer music aroung then as well.

Bengee: I don't know about the 50's, but the 60's definatly and the early 70's. I mean it started off with cars like the Ferrari 250 GTO and AC Cobra and by the 70's it ended up with cars like 917 👍.
