Goodwood Festival of Speed: new cars on show
This weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed will showcase a number of new vehicles, in addition to the classic racing and sports cars, and exotic high-performance vehicles.
A number of manufacturers are taking the opportunity to unveil some all-new production models in front of Goodwood's discerning enthusiast audience, with many new cars making an appearance in the UK - or the world - for the first time this weekend.
Alfa Romeo will show the latest Spider, based on the Brera coupe, in the UK for the first time, as well as the 8C Competizione Spider concept car, as seen at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California last year. The 8C coupe is said to have been approved for production (a formal unveiling is expected at the Paris Motor Show this autumn) and the reappearance of this Spider, with a Ferrari-Maserati V8 good for around 440bhp, suggests that Alfa is serious about making a drop-top version as well.
It'll be the first chance many Goodwood-goers will get to see the Bentley Continental GTC drop-top, the BMW Z4 M Coupe and the Bugatti Veyron - which will be driven by Lord March himself.
Specialist 4x4 tuning firm Bowler Off-Road is to reveal its new race car - said to have been inspired by the Range Rover Sport. Called the Nemesis, this could well be a potential Paris-Dakar contender, although we'll have to wait until the weekend to find out for sure.
Derbyshire-based Bowler has also prepared a road-going Range Rover Sport for Land Rover, which will be doing demo runs on the off-road rally section of the Goodwood hillclimb. Land Rover is also showing the special edition Range Rover Sport HST and, on the Sunday, a 'special guest vehicle' - probably the Freelander 2, in advance of the British Motor Show.
The Surrey-built Caparo T1 (formerly known as the Freestream T1) will be seen for the first time in the UK. This fully road-legal £150,000 supercar, which features a 500bhp V8, was unveiled earlier this year in Monaco, and will go into production in Farnham later this summer.

Another British sports car, the Connaught Type-D, makes its public bow too - and 4Car's own John Simister will be guiding it up the hill. This model has a 300bhp supercharged V10, so he'd better drive carefully.
A full line-up from Ferrari includes the 599 GTB, to be seen for the first time in the UK, the ultra-exclusive FXX and a special bespoke-finish one-off 612 Scaglietti.
New Zealand sports car company Hulme Supercars - named after legendary NZ driver Denny Hulme - is to display a concept version of its F1, claimed to be New Zealand's first homegrown supercar. Hulme is still in its early stages, but hopes that its Goodwood stand will attract the necessary investors it needs to put the car into production - NZ newspapers report that the company is hoping to raise NZ$1m.
Jaguar is to preview the new supercharged XKR prior to its formal launch at the British Motor Show. Order books open imminently for the 420 bhp XKR, with prices starting from £67,495.
The JCB Dieselmax, to make an attempt next month to top 300mph and break the world land speed record for diesel-engined vehicles, will be on show.
The 245mph Koenigsegg CCX, first seen at the Geneva Motor Show last spring, is nearly as fast and only a little less rare: the Swedish firm is unlikely to sell more than a handful of its 806bhp supercars.
Lamborghini fans can see the Murcielago LP640 in action, driven by Lambo's test-driver Valentino Balboni. The Walter de'Silva-designed Miura Concept car, first seen in Detroit earlier this year, will be on static display in the Cartier Style et Luxe paddock alongside original Miura models.
Maserati also has an exotic low-volume model to show off: the limited-edition GranSport MC Victory, as seen in Geneva with its unique blue paint and special finish, celebrating Maserati's victory in the 2005 FIA GT championships.
Sadly, it seems that the Maybach Exelero is just a one-off prototype, but this can be seen in action too.
Former WRC rally champ Colin McRae has designed and developed his own rally car, to be unveiled to the press and public at Goodwood. It's said to be a four-wheel drive, 2.5-litre bespoke-build model, to be sold to privateer owner-drivers to compete in a new one-make rally series. Should you want to enter the world of motorsport, it'll be a cheaper bet than the Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG convertible.
One of the potentially more affordable models on show at Goodwood is the Nissan 350Z GT-S; this has been supercharged to give 376bhp and 313lb-ft and 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, and with modified suspension, wider wheels and tyres and optimised aerodynamics. We'll bring you the full lowdown on all this after the weekend, as 4Car's editor Gavin Conway is going to drive the 350Z GT-S up the hillclimb.
We've already driven the Peugeot 907 concept, too, but it should put on an impressive performance at Goodwood.
We're particularly interested to see the Prodrive P2, though, the Impreza-derived two-seater first revealed at the Autosport Show last January and it will be great to see the Saab Aero-X concept car on the move.
