Ok I got the game at midnight and absolutely love it!!!. The physics engine is better than shift one but the problem is not the engine but rather the fact that they put no setting in the advanced settings for the wheel for force feedback so if you just fire the game up and you have the fanatec wheel the wheel will start off with no force feedback. The remedy to a degree i found by doing what i had to do with forza and that is when the race starts simply pause the game then reboot the wheel and walla you will have a degree of force feedback. This could be strengthened IMO and a setting in the game for this would be a plus but beyond that i have tuned and tinkered a bit with the game and the cars drive wonderfully. Also before you go to your first race you can turn on the elite model and that helps tremendously with the GTR race. You also will be able to change the transmission to manual before going in the game just go to options and find the controls that will show the x box force feedback wheel and it is at that screen that you actually turn manual on and automatic clutch off. This is not found in the advanced settings but the basic control screen that shows the wheel.

No FF settings at all.

What version have you got mate and could you give some detail on the wheels feel.

Edit it's xbox sorry I didn't read the title.

Bah.

I'm back with my observations from the game after driving some high level cars in the elite mode i def can say that it does present a bit of a challenge. I do see how the car is hard to keep straight and i adjusted my dead zone on the wheel to have 10-20 on the Fanatec settings. I have not adjusted the advanced dead zone setting so maybe i will try that next. My biggest gripe is not the driving engine it's the lack of force feedback on the wheel that i am using. I have to reboot the wheel per race to get it fixed or in a decent mode because it's set according to the Microsoft wheel which we all know has very little force feed back. I hope they fix this with an online patch but beyond that my observations are this that the floating that everyone seems to be experiencing is intensified by the force feedback issue. The other thing i noticed is that this is reduced greatly after modding a car with a proper suspension setup. I chose the audi s4 as my starter car and it was bouncy initially until i dropped some weight and added a proper suspension. If you have any questions please ask and I will check this forum every 15 mins or so to try to answer questions.

@ Spagetti: You know how in the first shift it gave you the option to turn the force feedback up to 10? Well it doesn't give that option anymore it seems they kept all the advanced settings but that one which sucks with the Fanatec wheel i am using. My setup is the full club sport edition and I have my wheel set to 240 %, Vibration and Force feedback on the wheel are set to 100. They have an option for vibration but not for force feedback unless i am missing it somewhere. The understeering that everyone is talking about is in the initial cars i drove a gt1 style s4 and it was oversteering quite a bit with the elite driving model.

A member posted awhile ago that the Fanatec suffers in this game.

EA dropped the Fanatec listed on the PS3 on their site.

I think the PWTS is listed and that's basically the same wheel. I'm sure though that it used to say PWTS and similar. Though they dropped the similar.

Personally I don't like having deadzone.
TBH I am worried about the handling, mote now than ever.

Thanks mate you may have saved me some disappointment.

I'm enjoying SBKX anyway lol.

Thats the one i have the pwts with club sport peddles and the wheel stand. It works but you just have to reboot it and the force feedback sucks until you do that i want to see what the reviews are on the other wheel and i haven't tried the Microsoft wheel yet as i have that one as well.

Yep the missing reviews are out today.

Unfortunately not many main stream sites tend to use or talk about a wheel.

These sites will mark up Shift and ignore or not be aware of wheel issues.

ISR won't release a review for awhile. Shaun Coles face said it all. Alan on vvv gamer was gagged but looked like he wanted to say about handling.

Embargoes and closed press screenings, say to me that they are hiding something.

Well EA, you can't hide no longer.

Spagetti, you should really opt for a PS3 game if you have a PS3.

Graphical thingies aside, PS3 force-feedback management will always be superior to X360 so it is pretty much no-brainer there.

As for X360 support and Fanatec, I think OP is making a fuss about nothing. It is clearly stated on Fanatec wheel manuals that for proper FF on X360 you should start the console manually (not via the wheel) and after the console boots (not even the game, console booting to profile menu is enough), than you start the wheel.

It is very easy and logical and I had no problem with it whatsoever - it is like that since the era of the Microsoft Force Feedback Wireless Wheel. But I guess nobody reads the manuals these days.

I have a G27 too so i suppose it's a no brainer.

No settings for FF strength is odd though.

I think the op has to reset his wheel every race so that would mean starting the console first might not remedy that problem.

Amar I booted the 360 the way that you posted you just assumed i didn't but it still does the same thing. I'm not making a fuss about it as i am driving with it I am just reporting my experience. I also found that adjusting the in game dead zone helps a lot with the cars stability on the straights to some degree. I have mine at 5% and it's fine.

Just to be clear, if you dont re boot your wheel every race there's no or very little force feed back.

Is that correct?

Yeah some races i don't have to but there are def issues with the force feedback for the Fanatec wheel and the 360. It is inconsistent and the wheel is fine as it works great with GT5 and Forza 3. Once you get it working correctly the game is a lot of fun especially on the elite mode. I just got my vip prizes from hot pursuit, shift 1 and undercover. I took the Zonda Cinque for a blast on the Nurburgring and with the elite handling model it was def a challenge.

@ Spagetti: You know how in the first shift it gave you the option to turn the force feedback up to 10? Well it doesn't give that option anymore.

on inside sim racing they have a video setting up the GT3RS on PS3.

They show a FF strength setting here as well as others.

Maybe give their settings a look at.

Yeah on x box they don't have that they just have the Microsoft wheel as the preset and in place of the force feedback setting they have a vibration setting not to mention the ps3 default wheel is the g25 so that my be why there is actually a force feedback setting.

Yes Bededdy, I've seen a similar post to yours on the ISR forum.

EA, can go and jump if they think I'm setting up my MS wheel. It's an official dust collector now.

Massive disappointment for Xbox users.

What does 'SBKX' mean if you dont mind? Thanks!

I'm using ISR's settings for PS3 now and it seems to have helped with the wandering on straights with high powered cars, still needs some more tweaking though!

6H Shifter and clutch are working fine with XBOX 360 version of Shift 2 on my Fanatec PWTS.

I have PS3 and XBOX versions of Shift 2 and FFB is definitely much better on PS3 vs XBOX.

The graphics are a bit crisper on XBOX but I see more jaggies - LOL

badeddy - thanks for the early feedback. Looks like I may have to give this one a pass. I'm with Spagetti69 on the official MS wheel, especially with my Turbo S being hard mounted to my rig.

badeddy, do you know what firmware version you have on the PWTS? From looking at the 911wheel.de site it seems different firmware versions have had serious effects on FFB in Forza 3. May be that a different firmware version would be best for Shift 2. (One would hope that there would be a version that works well for all games, but this doesn't seem to be a mature enough ecosystem of products.)

after much tinkering with the wheel i got ok ffb and i killed most of the sway by adjusting linearity and deadzone both in the game and on the wheel i have all three of these set to 10% and since it is emulating the Microsoft wheel I have it set to 240-270% rotation. I hope they make a patch and adjust everything.

I have a PWTS with CSP and playing on Xbox.

I'm not having any issue getting FFB. Are you booting your xbox first before turning on the wheel? I've never had to reboot my wheel to get FFB.

The game recognizes the wheel as a Msft Wheel, which is odd. I could not find any advanced wheel settings either.

I find the FFB to be very strong.

My current Fanatec PWTS settings:
Rotation: 540
FFB: 60
Drift: OFF
ABS: 80
Other settings are default

Yeah rise i booted it by turning x box on first then turning the wheel on and its not the wheel because it works fine with gt5 and forza 3. At certain points during the race the force feed back is dropping and there are issues with it.

I suspect it's GT2 specific.

The official supported wheels list mentioned.

MS wheel.
PWTS and similar.

They have since dropped the similar.

Nice to know they support a wheel no longer manufactured though.

Edit my bad. He is talking about the PWTS.

Any GT2 users out there?

@Badeddy

Which version firmware are you running on your PWTS?

I have a PWTS on FW 613 and a GT2 on FW 681.......it could be a Firmware issue. Not got S2U yet but hoping to pick it up on Friday.....most likely for the XBox as I can then share the game with my son.

Cheers.

JB

Which version of the firware are you using on your PWTS?

My FFB is much stronger on the PS3 vs XBOX version in Shift 2 on my PWTS

LOL Two great minds think alike eh Raudi LOL

I'm using 669UE Firmware

I don't care too much for the PS3 version of Shift 2 as the graphics on the XBOX version look much better, so I'll probably keep the XBOX version along with PC.

I'm using 20 Degree speed sensitive steering to keep the higher powered cars from wandering down the straights but it may need to be tweaked even higher.
