So I'm always excited when the track on any of the dailies is Bathurst as it's my favourite track in game. My SR/DR had taken hits the past couple days because it seemed any time I'd get on something urgent would suddenly come up and real life me had make racing me suffer for the qualms of the outside world. Therefore, my first race for today I qualified 4th with my F-Type and put up against others in the C/D ranges for DR/SR. I'd been hovering around B/B previously so I was expecting a pretty dirty race going in. I try my best to race cleanly in any given race as more of a pride over winning thing. I won't instigate, but I'll retaliate if it was exuberant enough.

Brings me to this race and the purpose of the post though. The race was actually very clean for the most part. I avoided some early flusterclucks and got up to 2nd where it then became a pretty close battle for 1st. So maybe it was just clean because we'd separated ourselves from the pack. Lots of red letters below us in the end.

This was the 4th lap and I'm just wondering whether or not this was a clean pass. I didn't receive any penalties nor an SR decrease, but I feel I might've still gotten a little overaggressive shooting for the inside line. Here's the clips, what do the GTP stewards think?

Here is from his point of view as well.

You were late. He was already turning to the apex before you got along side.

It was a Beetle though, and that is a signature Beetle move.
Which did make me feel a little better, honestly;)

It wasn't intentional, just misjudged my speed in the heat of the moment. Like I said it was an otherwise clean race except for the start which is common on Bathurst and often times unintentional as well.

After this he was still only about 1 second behind before he went too quick into the last corner into the gravel trap. After that I pulled away from everyone. And in the end the only car in the top 5 not a Beetle:sly:

Good to go in my book.
I drive in my mirrors, as everyone should, the race is as much about what is behind you as it is ahead.
If I didn't want you to go down the inside, I'd have taken the inside. If I saw you going down the inside and did not want to risk being punted, I'd have given you the line and tried for a hard run out of the next right and repay the attempt on the hairpin.
If he didn't see you there, shame on him for not racing in a configuration with a view to the rear, if he did see you there, he turned down on you.
I'm not sure what ^TL^ saw or I missed, but I saw the 2 cars along side before he turned in, and made contact. I did see the Beetle wiggle under braking, but he didn't turn in until you were along side.
I'm not sure you left him room on exit, but to be fair/honest, contact had been made, so, had it not, maybe you could have kept enough control to leave the room... with the contact being made, and requiring steering corrections, there's no way for me to say you didn't leave room... I'll render benefit of doubt and say with full control (no contact) you would have left him room on exit
You can race me like that all day... that was your real estate in my book... but I would not have turned down on you, and would expect the same if you left the door open for me.

My SR dropped from B to D because my dog (very unexpectedly) took a chicken bone off my plate right in front of me just as a race was beginning. Started in 3rd place, caused a pile-up after the first turn and quit as soon as I could which is what really hurt my rating I guess. More importantly, I got the chicken bone out of his mouth.

Dang, your dog played you on that one. Was just waiting for that starting music and countdown dings. Dog knew what dog was doing haha

I watched the vids multiple times after reading your post. Not as firm about my original statement. I do think it was a questionable decision but it looks like he saw the OP at the last minute and turned in harder trying to block and avoid giving up the position. It also looks like the contact may have kept the OP from going wide on the exit. Hard to tell.

Surprising to see a Beetle braking that early.

I’d say that’s a great move and if the beetle was more aware, it would have been a much easier pass too!

I Think you made a Good move. The Quickest line in Qualifying is not always the Best Race Line,He left the door open for you,I Qualified on the pole today(2:08.596) in a BMW M6 that i just signed manufacturing contract only to be taken over by a Bettle Bug that won the Race by a 23sec margin! I Finished 2nd? I Try to Race as clean as I Possibly can but "BEYOND" Tired of the ScrubBug? I'm Hoping it Gets a Nerf on the update(Witch it probably will not),Unless it gets Balanced There will be No Future Love for the VW from me...

Just ran it Again...WRX 1ST, Porsche 2nd,Lexus RC 3rd and i got 4th in the BMW M6,Awesome Race Not One VW?

I haven’t experienced this massive bug win. I beat them 40s clear on the manufacturer series at Suzuka today. I then went into the Gr3 daily an Bathurst and again destroyed the opposition by a good 15/20s gap.

Good move, closing speed made it quite risky, you were brave on the brakes because if he’dve Taken the defensive line you might’ve hit him or gone off track but to me he left room, you were fully alongside before the apex and before he turned in and you looked to have slowed the car enough to get through the corner unscathed before the contact happened. I see this move a lot and you have to put a lot of faith in the other driver... he seemed slightly surprised by you appearing alongside from such a way back but I wouldn’t say your move was an unnecessary punt or divebomb, if a little risky...

He clearly braked too early, you took advantage of it by going up the inside, you were parallel by the time he turned in. No issue at all with your efforts in this pass IMO.

Not a clean pass in the sense that both drivers understood the situation and got through without a scratch, but it was an acceptable move and you were not at fault. It's very hard to keep track of the mirrors while you are getting ready for a turn in after some hard braking. This driver hit the brakes too early though so he should've anticipated the overtake. I know It's hard to go wide in that particular corner due to the elevation but he could've tried.

Racing Incident no action, maybe a tad late but I think the bug could have pulled out of that and still got around the corner, they handle well as we all know. I think he saw you and dived in late. All good.....

Hard to judge. Would you have stayed on track if he wasn't there to keep you?

He should have defended and forced your hand instead. But sometimes that leads to harsher accidents.

As a steward I would call it a racing accident, as the other driver I would take of my gloves and do the same to you at the first possible chance

Related, I drove my first race in a beetle today, looks and sounds boring. But it is very stable and easy to drive.
By, "do the same to you at the first possible chance", do you mean get parallel to someone before the turn in point and making a perfectly legal pass?

No problem, we agree on exit, too hard to tell.
BTW, I was not trying to change your mind, simply stating my opinion (and we are all entitled to our own) based on what "I" saw.
These discussions help educate us on alternate perspectives...
Sorry if I came across "high and mighty". was not meant to be.

The thing that seals it as fair for me is when he turned in he stopped turning for a brief moment which to me indicates to me he saw you there and instinctively went to leave you space, and then changed his mind and turned hard into you again and caused the collision.

Ok, I'm the only one who thinks you were carrying too much speed and didn't leave him 1 car width on the outside as you should have done? This is not clean IMO. Bettle broke too early and went too far into the inside line to try and block you (too late), true. You didn't brake enough to make the corner on the inside.

Seems a bit careless driving on both parts. IRL it wouldn't probably pass without a penalty or a warning.

Having said that, if all overtakes were like this, I'd be happy... lol

Absolutely clean move.

Your opponent braked too early, you outbraked him, was alongside him and at the same speed just before turning in, he shouldve been aware you were there.

The pass was fine.

He left you a carlength on the inside, you had full control of your car on the late braking. He was obviously unaware you were alongside (use that radar folks) and turned into you expecting the apex of the corner to be

----------------

If I had been defending I would have planted my car on the inside of the turn to force you to the outside; that might have provoked a driver error on your part if you were braking too late and would have torpedoed your chances at a second attempt as you'd be in the gravel trap and losing 5-10 seconds.

Bit of a dive, but you definitely braked in time to make the corner. His turn in on you was definitely unnecessary, and on lap 4 of 10, he's gotta just get behind you and try to pass you the next time around.

I absolutely hate this moves when done by all the Beetles or citroens. I am now in 4th Saison with the Mustang and i have to brake early or i slip out. The car is very heavy. But People behind me always get agressiv when i block the inside for more than 1 lap to prevent them to pass me. And on the straight in Gr.3 the Mustang can mostly hold the Position. But then people behind me get agressiv and do force this moves even if they have to go on grass or inside me when i am already on the curbs or bump me off line. It is disgusting and unsportsmanlike in most cases. Here it was as always questionable and not even wanted by you. As you said yourself you wouldnt have done it normally but braked to late in the heat. If a car goes on your side in the last 5 meters it is really hard to avoid contact...Some rare players give back position when they clearly bumped you off line because of their missjudgment of a situation. What do Reglements for real racing series say? Is it ok to dive in like this or do you have to be at least on the side of the car on the straight?

He had to turn in again or he would go into the green. The Jaguer maybe should have given him more space at the end of the corner too. It is 1 thing to dive in and take the inside but you also have to give the outside car his room then. That is what most Players do not do.

this kind of thread again :D I go with @cleanLX , Beatle was braking way too early and there was no point in you being slowed down because of him, you were side by side right when he started to turn in and obviously didnt see you. We wouldnt have these problems if people care to use the rear mirror.
