Well, it has all that grafiti on it because it is a very old course and the course isn't closed off so these numsculls go out and paint on the track in the real world. When Sony was taking pictures of it to make the course for the game, all that grafiti was there already. So all that grafiti was there because the pictures had grafiti in them and Sony decided to put the grafiti into Gran Turismo 4.

Actually that is all about the 24h Race of Nürburgring : Fans express their love to certain car makers and the racing teams.
There is no grafiti in the rest of the year...

I realize it's there in real life too, but do you think in the game it has anything to do with the lack of billboards on the course?

I mean the rest of the courses are littered with advertisements but without the Opel, BMW, Mercedes, and VW logos on the track, there would be none on the 'Ring...

Think PD might get paid for those ads???

I don't know where i got this from but i think i heard somewere that the grafiti was the names of the people who died on the track, but i don't know. Has anybody else heard this?

Most of the graffiti is for team or manufacturer support, as well as Sigmund was here, or, Adolf loves Gretta and things like that, however; some of the graffiti is for people that have died at the track over the years. As you drive on the track, you might notice crosses in certain places, this means that someone has died at or near that spot, often times, there will be more graffiti surrounding it, paying respects to the driver. Hope this clears things up.

in fact the nurb is one of the tracks with the biggest death toll. i think i heard over 200 from jeremy clarkson off of top gear

I can second that, (i saw that episode as well! :) ), but most of the graffiti is either related to drivers or manufacturers, or buddys of the makers at Polyphony Digital..

isnt the end movie(when unlock extreme hall) a helicopter view of a real 350z going thru nurburgring? u get to see all the graffiti on the ground... i remember seeing a huge OPEL logo

Yeah, PD did a good job in simulating the graffiti, but if you look closely it's a lot of the same repeated textures. Most likely because of the PS2's limited memory. But it's pretty amazing how good a job they did on it anyway. I'm sure there are many more different tags on the 'ring in real life.

the death toll is indeed very high on this track but please stop suggesting that graffiti means someone died there...thats some strange rumour that is spreading through this forum...

the graffiti is indeed made for the teams and drivers who take part in the 24h race and maybe a few also honour drivers who died on the ring and some of the graffiti is sheer fun, like the zebra crossings...they are just funny zebra crossings on a race track, they don#t say someone died there...

The grafitti definatly helps in some areas as markers for braking points... not its intended purpose but it works well for that.

Yes the ending movie is a view from the air following a nissan Z around the real life track. Its a nice little movie, i enjoy watching it.

I don't think so much people have died...!
There have been over 40 cases of accidents on the 'Ring each year.

1/3 of those are deaths. The number of deaths has decreased year by year.
And there are more than deaths.

I was there recently and yes, there is still a lot of graffitti.
I saw Opel signs, along with 4 VW, and 3 M-B logos.
Only 1 BMW one (bad one) near the long straightaway.

40 accidents in a year? sorry, but you would be closer with 40 a week...

everyday the ring is open for public, there are several accidents. you can see wrecks and tow-trucks usually every day, police and ambulance are regular visitors on the nordschleife (i have a picture of a huge fire truck going through the carousel on the inside...).

most of the accidents are not severe, although there are about 20 deaths a year and lots of injuries...
the official toll is less than 20 though, because they only count those who died right on the spot. those who die on their way to the hospital or in the hospital are not counted.

due to the high number of accidents a lot is tried to make the ring safer lately, because if it got worse the ring would be closed forever...

Hmmm... Sure? I'm pretty certain that they stay on the track for a loooong time...

Yes, depends on the used color, I wanted to say that they are only sprayed/painted once a year for the 24 h race and slowly dissapear over the year...

No... I think they just didn' t want to destroy the atmosphere of the "Green Hell" by hundrets of signs....

The track is not open for public every day, just every once and a while... 80 % of the year car, tire and suspensionmakers from all over the world need the track, not to forget reservated track days for private club meetings, car magazine tests and of course several racing events...
Those professional drivers have of course less accidents compared to private drivers, although I don't know special figures about that...

Its there all year round, its just random stuff like the zebra crossings. (Oh yer and the car brands too)

Crap, now I`ll have to go run on that track to see for myself. I assume it`s written in Deutsch. Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch. To any fluent or native German speakers, sorry if that makes no sense. :odd:

Actually 80% of the year is public, almost any day you can just rock up and race. They hardly ever close the track off completely even if people are testing. Only time they close it to public is for racers or if a car company pays a hell of a lot. Think about how much money they are losing (its like 8 euro a lap per car) if its closed to everyone so BMW can test their M3 CSL. They wouldnt unless BMW, MB, Audi etc. were paying them more than they make normally/.
