Gran Turismo 3 Review (complete)
2001.06.25-rev_game-ps2-j-gran_turismo_3_a-spec-cover.jpg

Genre
Racing. Published by Sony.
Developer:Polyphony Digital

The Objective
This series has always been about the passion of racing in a realistic sense. This is really different from Need For Speed and Ridge Racer, as everything is very real. The cars are mostly all from the big auto makers and tuning your car is great. The tracks are well put together, the audio is better than most racing games and the graphics.....gorgeous. This is the perfect racer.

Gameplay
When GT3 was first shown off in late 1999, many speculated that it seemed like a pretty version of GT2. This is not true as this is a totally different game than any of GT game before it. The game was totally reramped with better menus and very easy interface. The arcade mode is really re-done and looks lush and lavish. For those who crave a faster experience in the game try using the fast S class cars. In this mode you can unlock tracks and cars and do time attack. In the realistic simulation mode used Cars are out the window, and now new cars are only avaliable. You start out with 18,000 credits in simulation mode and you must buy a car in your price range and then you begin racing. At first the game seems discouraging as the races at first are not easy at all, as you'll have to try hard to keep in first. You will have to try hard in the beginning yet you will like it, and it puts up a challenge. Soon it gets easier and you'll blow away the competition.

Graphics
The graphics are awesome as they share beauty and realism at the same time. They have great detail and the backgrounds are great and lush. The sense of speed is great and the overall look of the game is simply outstanding.

Replay Value
The game is fun to play a second time yet it could become some what of a bore. Try different things to keep it interesting

Audio
This sound track is pretty good consitiiong of Snoop Dog, Apollo 440, and Junkie XL. The music tracks are great and they sound nice when driving. The sound of the cars are excellent and it is really good to hear the engines roar to life.

Final Word
The GT series has always been great to me and has really been phenomenal. GT3 is the best in the series and the best racing game ever. it's great and deserves to be held in high regard. Each game in the series I have collected and I'm craving for more. An excellent series with great standards, with excellent visuals and great game play.

In the spirt of the great Next Generation Magazine i give the 5 out of 5 stars.

Rating

Man, if I were an english teacher, and that were a paper, I'd grade you off so much for errors...

But the content is pretty good, so I'll give you that.

I have a few arguments with your ratings.

Audio - "Excellent sound an music tracks" Oh come on, I dont think there is anyone that doesnt have the music turned off. The music chosen for the game is horrible. Snoop turismo 3? hahahahha

Gameplay - 10 out of 10? the fact that the ai is dirt dumb doesnt count for even a one point deduction? I for one only use the game for hotlapping for this fact. racing against the ai gives me no joy whatsoever.

This is ofcourse a gt site so i wouldnt expect less, but come on. The game is far from perfect. I will take every chance I get to try and point that out.

of course the games not perfect, but the songs themselfs were not bad, you just couldn't adjust the volume. Also the car engine sounds factor in.

Gameplay?-the AI is not the only thing that rides on gameplay. The pace of the game is factored in and the playability is also factored in.

Umm...I have the music on. I just took out all the rap and techno crap and left on:

-Motley Crue
-Jimi Hendrix
-Goldfinger
-Lenny Kravitz
-Judas Priest

These are bands I listen to daily and don't mind hearing these songs when playing a video game.

When racing an actual race, the gameplay (to me) DOES pretty much completely rely on the AI. Or maybe it doesnt. But the fact that the AI is crap should stand for something. Certainly ATLEAST a one point deduction.

Just as you say the AI is not the only gameplay factor, I would say it is A factor. A 10 out of 10 with no consideration to the AI is wrong IMO.

KosmikFool, now that I think of it they arent that bad. To me the songs got old quickly as I was playing hours upon hours of gt3. There wasnt a large selection though, around 15 songs and then 100 generic techno songs. Considering, I wouldnt give it a 9, maybe he would I guess.

I totally agree with the A.I ruining the competitve part of the game.
Hopefully GT4 will be called: "The Real Driving And this time Racing Simulator"!:D

Since you made the arrogant post above, I find it necessary to do this:

Man is too colloquial.
English should be capatalised.
There is no comma after 'teacher.'
Make it a habit not to use contractions (don't, I'll).
Try not to end sentences with ellipses. (...)
Pretty good is too colloquial.
