Gran Turismo 5 Damage?

Hey all. I just recently got Gran Turismo 5 and I'm wondering about this damage system. Apparently you unlock it or something? Is that true? Because a lot of people are complaining about the damage but I've seen videos that reckon that you unlock this kind of damage at level 40 and you have to repair your cars etc. Is that true?

in an article over on IGN, Sony goons told IGN goons that the damage is not progressive with cars.
they explained that standard cars take minor damage, premium cars take more, and racing cars take even more.

it progresses with the kinds of cars you have.
