I hope this hasn’t already been beaten to death, I searched and didn’t find an answer.

I have not played GT5 for a while, I was really starting to lose interest in the game, so last night after reading some thread about shift 2, I had the driving bug again, I got myself all prepped put on the surround sound headphones plugged in the the G27 and tried a couple of races that I had done before and to my surprise it started with a rolling start, I didn’t remember it being like that so I started trying others and every one that I tried was a rolling start, when did this happen??

I really don’t like this and after not playing for a while, it really makes me not want to play the game anymore at all.
Was this supposed to be some kind of improvement??

Supposed to fight lag... at least... forcing rolling starts online does... not quite sure about A-Spec races...

Firstly, do not play shift 2 i strongly advise against it. And on topic, what races? I have been doing seasonal events lately, and they're rolling starts, but i haven't played a-spec in a while, and as i last remember they were standing starts.

Also seems to help the AI cars get around the first tight corner more efficiently therefore giving a very slight extra challenge (AI are still very weak and slow though lol)

Yeah it was their way to try and make the races a bit harder, didn't really work.

And probably to disguise the fact that the AI is not very good going into turn 1 all bunched up!

Yeah, I think the Ferrari Seasonal on Monza is evidence of that.

Online races - 100% standing starts.
EDIT: I never participated in a room with bad enough connection to force a rolling start.

Its not about forcing a rolling start, its the lobby host that decides when he or she sets up a room. Its under one of the event options.

It's in every single A Spec and B Spec race due to one of the updates, and you can choose online if you want to do a rolling start or not...rolling starts are actually helpful to smooth the race along.

I thought the only two options ONLINE for starts were:
-Grid Start
-Grid False Start Check (keep your brakes on)

I don't recall ever seeing a Rolling Start option, however I will look more closely tonight.

I thought what the original poster was asking was about A-Spec races, and yes some ( or all?) have changed from a standing / grid start to a rolling start, unsure why though but maybe to do with the AI.

Whoops, my bad :dunce:

Was getting them mixed up abit, as I dont host many races, if any at all.

The only time I remember running a rolling start was when I did a few Online NASCAR races, but I have no idea how they did it.

But on topic now! I think I always recall rolling starts for offline races, but I may be wrong again...

You can select 'rolling start' for Superspeedway Daytona and, I would assume, Indy when online. Not sure about any of the other tracks.

That's too bad, I would like having the option of rolling starts for more (all) tracks.

Esp for races like Le Mans.

B-Spec is still a standing start

Yes, you are correct, I was asking about A-Spec, I liked the standing starts, everyone has their own preferences, for me standing start was mine, did someone mention a way to change this?

It was mentioned in another post a long time ago that the G27 needed to be calibrated by pushing the gas/brake fully and I would use the standing start time to do this.

Had anybody experienced the "Dream Car Championships", A-spec, without any countdown? It has always been a rolling start for each event, but to my memory it used to be a countdown before the last update. It's really annoying as I usually have a sip of drink before each race starts!

I think rolling starts were implemented to make the races a little more challenging. It's too easy just to blast plast everyone else on a perfect launch and spend the remaining 4.9 laps in first place, which happens all the time with standing starts, so I guess that adds a little more of a challenge to the racing.

I don't like it either though, because it takes away from the immersion of being in a real race. Sitting on the line with 12 or 16 screaming engines waiting for the light to go green is such an amazing experience, and gets the adrenaline pumping ready for the race ahead. I wish PD kept it.

Have you ever played Codemasters F1 2010? They have really captured this experience in a way no one have done before. The excitement is immense!

Yea they changed this for some reason after one of the recent updates. I agree, it is rather annoying. I think it should be like in GT4: some races start with a rolling start, some are standing starts.

Then again, I kinda like the variety. Just when I was getting used to various races in the game, (I tend to grind the same races over and over) PD changed it, forcing me to rethink my strategy. BUt I would still like to see some races come back as standing starts, even if they could somehow be randomly mixed with rolling starts somehow.

I've been searching in vain for races that are still standing stars... but so far, no such luck.

Standing starts were fun. Added a bit of a skill element to it... proper launch technique... gearing. We've now been given the ability to fully customize our gearboxes with proper "launch" gears (longer 1sts for more powerful cars) and differentials... and now we can't use that? Boo.

I like standing starts more since it requires more than just giving full throttle.
Oh wait, 90% of GT5 users use Noobomatic gearbox that changes gears automatically.

Cool if you could have the origanl Le Mans start were you have to run to your car.

Haha, agreed.

I just recognised there are rolling starts, and not that dissapointed, since i only grind the dream car championship. But otherwise, i would be.

Practice, One Make race is a standing start

Or God forbid... let the user decide with a simple option.

Hmmm, maybe. I kinda like the mysterious approach, though. Never know what PD is gonna throw us next with each update. On the other hand, I could see having an option to change race starts though too. That would be cool. Geez, I'm waffling, now. Sorry.

As long as (like I said) at least some races come back as standing starts.
