My needless addition to the discussion here is that the situation that differs now vs GT2/GT4/GT6 is that we had a more.. robust?.. library of cars for the time. Or at least it felt that way then and I think still feels that way to me?

GT7 is missing at least a hundred obvious choices. Popular or "famous" sporty, sports, or race cars. Compared to cars that have some weird historical significance or are quirky. And what makes GT, GT I think, is that variety, but I wouldn't say it should be at the expense of more the traditional sports cars. Which I assume the vast majority of players choose to engage with. I'd like to think @Famine is a car fetishist outlier here  Something like Forza Horizon, I would expect the quirky to sports car ratio to be a little more balanced.

And the whole element of licensing is this stupid black hole that no one seems to know anything about how PD does it and thus its pointless to argue from that angle IMO. Maybe someone here does.. but they won't say what they know and even then its probably anecdotal. The lack of transparency with PD, and the industry as a whole, is so unfathomably frustrating and dumb.

This has all been said ten thousand times in a thousand different ways on this forum alone. I don't know why I'm even saying anything.

Anyway, just popping in hoping for a patch trailer today and, please god, some surprises.

Edit: Annnd posted while I wrote this. Ugh, thank the lord for the Sophy AI Custom Races.

Things just take more time now, they'll get to 1000 cars eventually, in another 5-10 years, but at least these car models will be good forever.

The Aston is cool. Will take that for a spin for sure.

Also, despite being disappointed in the Sophy races (and AI in general) in the past, being able to use it in Custom races is cool. Will definitely help with practicing for league races better than the current AI which is quite bad. It also says you can customize the Sophy cars... does that mean we can put RM/RS tires on a Gr3 car to race against? Currently, if you want to race against a Gr3 car it will only be equipped with RH tires. (I suppose this is true for all cars in the game will only use their OE tires.)

The sad part is, I would not be surprised at all if PS6 comes around and Kaz just decides we need Super Premium models now. Throw it all out and start over. Guy is a bit of a mad man. Even GT6 premium cars still look good.

I am very happy for Sophy, but I find the timing a little strange. This is the kind of thing that you would expect being introduced in a "big update". Like Sophy 2.0 and the start of its extension in July.
Now I wonder if there is any "big update" planned for GT7 at all if we get this feature in such a random update.

That's something I think about a lot, in the older games these cars made sense because they were there since launch and they had actual purpose in the game as your first cars, the beginning of your journey. Also being in the game from day 1 changes things a little because let's say you really don't care about them, the cars are still bundled with hundreds of other ""cooler"" cars. So let's say a game like GT4 had about 50 oddballs, you could still ignore them and focus on the other 650+ cars available, that's not even 10% of the list.
When we get these cars as post launch content you can't help but think on the back of your head that their addition is taking the place of something else, even if that is not the case, even if the contents of the updates were pre-planned and the cars were made many months ago - in a vacuum, you are still getting 3 cars where 2 of them could be way more interesting. The way the content is presented and delivered to us can affect how we perceive it.
On the flip side, all these cars will be amazing for GT8 day 1, a whole lotta regular cars to pick in the early game.
