The 205 was pretty polarising too - remember the "mom car" guy?

He wasn't alone either. A load of people (many, but not exclusively, and also not uniformly, outside of Europe) just didn't get why this slow FWD hatchback was being added "instead of" [their Voiture du Jour].
That’s fair, but had those people driven a 205 GTi rather than a civic/Corolla we could be in a “man in a high castle” timeline 🤣

Just anecdotally the 205 and civic are on a lot of the international versions of Octane etc in airports so I’m guessing I’m definitely not the target for these cars, don’t need a rubbish runaround, not having a van with windows, nice car in the vantage but I’d buy a GT3 if I could.
You're not going to please all the people all the time,
This is the truth, we all accept that but for all the 205 haters out there where was the mob of Kangoo peeps or must have the CX30 peeps…

PD do PD and I’ll just keep self flagellating in dailies. Such a weird company.

Man, sooo looking forward to seeing this update more than most. I have a roster of custom races I may have to refurbish . . . and that's a good thing!

I'll be curious to see what the "Style" crowd has to say on the Kangoo. I don't think the one day record of the Unimog is in danger, but I'm curious to see what they come up with.

Vantage is the car I'll drive the most.

I actually like the CX-30 addition as it (and cars like it) help tremendously in introducing someone to VR: Put them in a (parked) car they are somewhat familiar with before tossing them into a race / hyper car they've never been close to. It helps people start grounded in my experience . . . and that experience has involved several folks across different ages.

(shameless plug for GT Article for how to get started in VR) :)

Good update. Looking forward to the rest of the bits that aren't in the trailer.

If custom lobby and custom cars could be well supported by Sophy, then there would be basically no obstacle toward fully replacing regular racing AI, and they just need to train it for more tracks now. Maybe in the future it would even be possible to adapt to any tracks without additional explicit training.
But the main problem isn’t actually AI pace or awareness but the game is 99% engineered around rolling starts. Custom races are probably as fringe as Sports mode racing, so if the core learning (the game) isn’t applying this then it’s just another small pocket of people sharing custom races or doing dailies etc

Mayyybe. It already sits low to the ground. Slamming the body and stickers all over the windows and fenders, just might beat the Unimog. ;)

I’d love to know the in game sales number of all cars. Especially these last few updates.

That would be epic . . . but would certainly fuel a bunch of flames across this forum.

If a given car doesn't sell as well as something else the chorus would be "See? They should have given us [insert car here] instead of this pile of garbage!"

Or conversely if a car (like the Unimog) were to sell a ton, there would be a chant of "WE TOLD YOU" or something of the like.

The data nerd in me wants to know.

The person who hates the flame wars on this forum does not.

The second one wins for me.

I, too, would like to know this. But with a caveat of how many miles users have put on a car... or better yet, the time accrued on an individual car since it's not really fair to the slower cars to measure the distance. One could drive the Unimog for an hour and put less distance in vs the Tomahawk in a minute.

I will buy the new cars simply because I made it a goal - eventually - in the game to have purchased every car. But, I'll likely never use 2/3rds of them from this update.

And PD must have this information since all of our saved game data is on the servers.

Looking forward to seeing the Kangoo's visual customisation. And the performance upgrades. Though, if there's any swaps available, they'll be limited by the Kangoo's FF layout. Cool, weird addition either way.

While many probably aren't so interested in the Mazda, I personally am, just like I was interested in the CHR... until I tried it. Hearing that the CX30 is a hybrid FF instead of the 2.5 turbo AWD model pretty dramatically limits its potential. I'm just hoping this isn't another hybrid that gets almost nothing in the way of power upgrades.

I love it when the game gets more everyday econoboxes added, because taking a boring car and turning it into a track-slayer has always been a staple of the franchise. However, the implementation of the CHR was baffling, bordering on infuriating, because the visual customisation is awesome, yet its performance ceiling is pathetic. Hopefully this Mazda isn't more of the same.

Oh, there's an Aston Martin isn't there? Cool. I love how a 24-year-old Kangoo van is getting more of the limelight than a current-model GT car. :D

This is also a great measure of how appreciated a vehicle is. As Talon said you could dive the Unimog for an hour and put on fewer miles than a Tomahawk.

INORITE???

Lots of ways to enjoy the game, and cars in the game. The cottage industry around liveries alone shows how popular several non-sports and non-race cars can get . . .

But so much of that is popular culture dependent.

Biggest challenge for SOHPY will be:

Let's hope they can carry good speed through the descent into the Esses.
It’s crazy because the AI seem to navigate Nurburgring and tight Tokyo Expwy pretty well. Getting the AI to quickly brake and change steering angles from the climb through the top and initial descent, must have PD scratching their heads since the circuit was added to the franchise.

At this point the closest tool that we have to know he impact of cars added in the game is to look for the user generated content (liveries, scapes, repetitions, race photos) on the exhibition central

I thought the Smart Edition was a mild hybrid? The article says it's got the e-skyactiv engine.
Mild hybrids also aren't (necessarily) hybrids. The term isn't concrete, but Mazda's version doesn't drive the wheels with any motors; they use energy recovery and a high-voltage system to power various electronics and ancillaries to save engine power and fuel use.

My Unimogs have more miles than my Tomahawks since I never drive them. Only driven one to get that top speed trophy - to me the Tomahawks are more of a joke car than the Unimogs, Kangoos or the Ambulance

The Tommyhawk is a PHONY car, does not exist nor will it, the only reason i have mine is to have a complete garage...

If thats the case the Unimog was a hit!
Basically, if you look all the 3 cars from last update were popular among the GT7 community, and also you can see how the C-HR didn't meet the expectations from the community as content generated is scarse for it

Apologies if I'm missing something but can Sophy 2.1 use our own cars though? I'd rather have them use my cars tbh.
