I think you will be very surprised at the Mercedes,it does sound like the real think and is pretty fast and handles really well.
The sound actually isn't too bad, I was pleasantly surprised and even mildly impressed. As usual the balance of sources is off, but that is (as usual) due to the lack of a dedicated intake sound source. And the intake is a major feature on this car, for more than one reason.

It's a great addition to the series, just a shame about the grind.
 
How do you fix it?

Noise is the result of too few rays, or not enough rays per frame, or a lack of temporal accumulation in static scenes, or dynamic scenes in general rendering the previous ray buffers obsolete, or some other trade off. Combine this with a high sensitivity to specular reflections (shiny objects with high local curvature: polished wheels) and you inevitably get a fizzy outcome.

Is ray reconstruction a thing outside of nvidia hardware? Would it even help here?
Well, I would start by going back to the way menus were before the update. If I had "Prioritize Framerate" turned on, the ray tracing wasn't happening in GT Auto IIRC. Now, it's always on.

Also, the caustic issue isn't happening in game, only in GT Auto. So, whatever solution they have for the in game ray tracing, they should implement it in the menu. We can speculate a million solutions on this forum, but I would rather use what we see and know from the game.

I think it's possible to disable it somewhere, isn't it?

Framerate and PSSR off should do it I guess.

Yeah, surprised me how good it sounds. Wouldn't call it accurate, but nice enough engine note to justify the grind. Great car to control around Goodwood, my goto track to test old racing cars in the game.

Now bring the Maseratti 250F, PD, just do it.

Given that there is only one car in private hands I guess they may have had a bit of a problem getting the sounds for it.Interestingly the fuel injection system was from an ME 109 fighter.

Are old Formula One cars subject to the same licensing conditions as new ones? Because I remember reading that the terms of the licensing mean Gran Turismo games can only include 1 Formula One car from the current/recent seasons - no rivals.

Does that apply to older cars? Does the addition of the W196R mean that the Maserati 250F couldn't be added in future, since they were rivals in the same F1 seasons? Or for that matter the AAR Eagle which would be a rival to the Honda RA272.

They could skirt around this by just bringing back unlicensed versions of real F1 cars like they did with the F-1900T F1500T-A and F1 cars from the previous GT games:

Yes, but the Formula Gran Turismo wasn't an unlicensed F1 car. It was purely fictional (and absolutely awesome).

GT3 had some of them, like the bootleg MP4/4 lol.
 
My point was in a racing game having a strong RT during gameplay is a waste of resources imho

During replays or photos RT is great for that and i know RT can be really beneficial but that kind of RT is only PC atm
Yea the replays look amazing with RT on, I'm so addicted to it now that I won't play without RT. Here are 2 examples Look at the reflections on the helmet and inside the car. Just beautiful even with YouTube's ugly compression.

Indeed, but the F1500T-A is, I’m fairly sure, the exact same Lotus 97T model from GT6. If they wanted they could likely make a 99% copy of a 2024 F1 car with maybe the wing element being unique to PD’s car and not any other team and they’d probably be fine.

EDIT: Not exactly the same as the 97T but the Type B aero parts make it resemble the 97T - with a different rear wing, roll hoop, and wheels, according to the GT wikia. So I think they can largely make a 2024 F1 car with maybe some team specific inspired aero parts in GT Auto, if other parts of the model are distinct enough not to match a current F1 team’s car.

I just blasted through the chicane at the GP and was in third place by the time I got to Döttinger Höhe. :lol:
good idea, I'll try that next time, ended up 4th tonight and 9s behind the trio on the podium... not an easy event for me.

Yeah, that was my third attempt. The first was no cutting, but divebombing to get Silver. The second, I had a slow spin at the third part of the circuit and dropped me from 5 seconds to 8 seconds and I quit.

Forza has had multiple pre-1990 F1 cars since FM5, so the "one per game" rule (if it existed) was definitely only contemporary cars.

Edit: And you can have multiple cars from the same year, as FM2023 has multiple 1967 F1 cars.

However, I would not expect this to actually happen. For all that most of PD's roster decisions can be inscrutable, they are actually pretty predictable when it comes to pre-2000 racing cars. PD massively prefer adding important cars across the years rather than having a full roster from a specific year and class. Basically, a car needs to do one of these things:
  • Win a championship
  • Win an important race (whether prestigious like Le Mans or historically significant like the RA272 winning Japan's first F1 race)
  • Win the Pebble Beach award
If a pre-2000 racing car doesn't do any of these things, they probably aren't getting into the game unless they have an overwhelmingly good reason (the XJ13 being part of the Three Legendary Cars, the GT-One having the history in the series it does).
