No offense, but I also know this is hard to do:
Try to have the site be both unique AND usable. Right now it's usable, but not unique.

Seriously the layout is verry dull, and my logo does not mix in with it at all. I understand its new, but if its going to stay like this, it whont be something that stands out of the crowd. Theres always room for improvement, contact me if you guys need ideas, or a layout.

Well, it's a good effort, but truth be told, you guys are going to get very little traffic... It'll be a good exercise for you guys to get used to web technologies, PHP, and the like, so that's one part where you'll benefit. But to be perfectly honest, don't expect a runaway hit or anything. ;) Not to be mean or anything, but I just don't want you guys to be disappointed. Again, I can't tell you enough though how much you could learn from this little endeavor.

I'd suggest not making those who visit your site register to view your content. However, using it to allow them to have access to certain things in your website is ok. Like the others said, the design is somewhat bland but I can understand since it's not even finished yet.

rjensen11: How exactly can I make it unique?

Okami: Changing the logo and the layout are things on my list to do and since I am using Postnuke I have to use themes that have been released. Do you have MSN so we could talk?

Sage: How do you know it won't be a hit? What exactly do I need to make it a hit?

Matrixhasu77: Thanks for that, I made it like that to see if people would register but people don't. I'm going to change the permissions so that people can read the content and so they have to register if they want to post comments and other things. Do you think that is ok?

Since this is only my 2nd attempt at making a website. The 1st was a crappy html site made in yahoo pagebuilder (something like that) so I don't exactly have the experience some of you will have. I used PostNuke so that it is easier for me to update etc because all you have to do is go to a menu screen and type what you need then it will update the site itself. Any more suggestions are very welcome.

I've added a few more themes, if you want to look at them all then go to the site and log in as test (password: test) then go to my account and tell me which one is best then I will configure it so all the links match mine.

Sorry for no Flash banner but I'm waiting for a pretty final layout so I'll know it'll fit in. If you need help with HTML just e-mail me dayboy.

I've added 23 new themes so there should be no complaints about the choice. Just use the account in my post above to check them all out then tell me which one is best.

KosmikFool: I'm going to wait and see which theme people like best from the one's I have installed so i'll get back to you soon.

I don't "know" that it won't be a hit, but it's an educated guess... my point was that there are a lot of established GT sites, including GTPlanet, GranTurismo.com, and one of the most popular sites for "the future of GT" is HondaKid86's site (I forget the URL)... people are much more likely to go to one of those, especially since they have rankings in Google searches already.

Also, to be brutally honest, it's very obvious that you guys used one of those template thingies (especially with the whole "module" thing)... people really appreciate a "hand-made" site, built from the ground up... they know the difference between a site that's built off of a template with some "themes" thrown at it, and a site like GTPlanet that was carefully built from scratch.

I don't have any experience making sites like this, as i've said this is only my 2nd attempt. I want to keep the site simple and PostNuke has modules which update themselves without me having to do anything which is easier for me. If people want to submit news then they type what they want and all it takes is a couple of clicks to make it appear. I'm no good at creating graphics, layouts and all that so the most reasonable thing to do is use PostNuke. I don't want to be relying on people to make me a layout and all sorts of other things so I use PostNuke to do some of those things for me. Thanks for replying anyway

No, but i'll give you credit for it on the site somewhere. Probably down the bottom with all the other information if I can work out how to get more text there.

Or you could have the 1 pence i've got in my nochex account

Naa, just joking around. Coincidentally, this is the second time I've been responsible for the name of a web page.

I don't know, try having a navigation system that isn't used by most sites(Like what GTP uses[Sorry Jordan!]), maybe don't use the standard Navbar column, then the info column, then the extra column. Maybe something like a special mouseclick pops up a navigation MENU. Maybe something like either the mouse wheel or both the left and right buttons if the user doesn't have a wheel. Also, try to steer clear of Flash. Although it can add great eye-candy, it can also make a lot of dial-up users disgruntled and decide to steer clear of your site.

Uniqueness, the sky's the limit. Maybe you should try to MAKE your OWN themes for your site if you choose the same layout(which I recommend not using, mostly because it's what everyone uses).

Also:
Maybe you can add some hotkey functions, like "Alt+L" on the keyboard will bring the user to Links, "Alt+C" brings the user to Cars. Who knows!

Also try to steer clear of required popups. Most popup stoppers will destroy those and render your site useless then.

Personally, I don't really like the design of that site. And it's obvious you used a template. Custom designs show your dedication to the website.

What do you mean, what should you have? Do you mean, ideas for your layout or what programs you should use?

Or, if you want to come up with a totally original design, look around your house. I got my biggest inspiration from a magazine.

Sorry, it's a private site. (I've even added meta tags to keep Google from indexing it). No can do. ;)

That is quite a good idea if you think about it. Thanks Sage
