The Game
Gran Turismo Concept: 2002 Tokyo-Geneva is the next installment in the popular Gran Turismo series. It is only available in thte PAL format. There is a Japanese NTSC version however entitled Gran Turismo Concept: 2002 Tokyo. The concept of this game is that you get less exhilarating GT action for less money.

Content
GTC isn't the greatest of the Gran Turismo series content wise. It contains over 100 pretuned autos and 5 tracks (10 including the reversed tracks) including Autumn Ring which was absent from Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec. The Gran Turismo Mode (or Simulaion Mode) is absent from Gran Turismo Concept; so in other words you can't buy or tune cars. You win cars by completing difficulty levels and licenses. You must obtain a license you each track (so, you need to get a total of 10 licenses. Once you have a license for a track you can race on it choosing from 3 difficulty levels (Normal, Professional & Ace). For getting a bronze or silver license on any course you will receive a prize car. If you get gold you will get another prize car. You get another prize car for each difficulty level for each track. Gran Turismo Concept is a pure arcade game to keep true GT enthusiasts busy until the release of Gran Turismo 4. It is one of those buy it, finish it, put it back on the shelf and bring it out when you have some friends around games.

Graphics
The graphics in Gran Turismo Concept are outstanding featuring some very well modelled cars. You don't have to get to hyped up about this though if the game is not available in your region, as the graphics aren't any better than GT3's. But aren't GT3's graphics outstanding...

Audio
There isn't much to comment on the audio of the game except for the fact it is good.

Positives
Polyphony Digital's 4th GT installment is cheap way of a bit of GT excitement after completing Gran Turismo 3. GT Concept isn't all that expensive which makes for another good (for the first week or so) game in your PS2 game collection.

Negatives
Gran Turismo Concept: 2002 Tokyo-Geneva's only fault is that it is too short and experienced GT players will complete in no time flat.

The graphics are improved slightly from GT3, they are slightly less jaggy and the cars are a bit more detailed. If you look at a car in GTC and then look at the same car in GT3 you will notice the difference(ie viper concept car).

Can we here in the states purchase the NTSC version of GTC and play it on our US Version PS2's?

If so...how and where to I buy GTC?

I want one!

Thanks for anyones help.

Jay:D

The NTSC version I stated was the Japanese version. I'm not sure if you need a mod chip to play NTSC Japanese games on a NTSC English PS2.

I heard GTC (maybe) will not be available in US.
Oh man,if so I guess i'll go to japan and buy GTC withJapanese PS2.

PS:I'am not 100% sure if this is true but i kinda believe it.Cause it's long time since it was released in't it.

There is a American GTC in the making - not many people must be working on it though. At least, I think there is an American GTC anyway...

Well do u know release date....i was now on some GT3 (i think) official page where it said it will be less expensive...Some kinda of present for GT series fans.

And I also read that it will be US too.

PS:Again messed up......sorry i'm new:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

It would be nice to see GTC released here in the states. If not than like someone mentioned your best bet might be to get a mod chip and a ripped Japanese version. If that's all possible of course.

:odd: Is that good idea......i'm little affraid that i'll do something and than i'll have to buy third PS2...By the way I wish the GT4 will look like GTC Intro.

A chip (if there is one) would void the warranty if I'm not wrong, but if some games aren't released here and your wanting to play them bad enough you would probably buy and sauder a chip in. Why would you need to buy a 3rd Ps2? What happened to the other one(s)?

Nothing I got just two of them to play over S400 with my little brother, but i'm so sad that there's no more good link games than Unreal Tournament and GT3,what I said about the 3rd one was that i'm affraid that the modchip would do something to my ps2's anyway I was looking on modchip wesites since i got psx so i thik i'll wait for GTC little bit longer or as long as it takes.....do u know if it's good to buy that linux kit even if i'm not experienced with linux even on 0.001%,i would like to create gamez:D

Being English I was in posession of a copy of GTC 2002 Tokyo-Geneva. And as a stand alone game, i.e not viewed as part of the GT series, it would not have impressed me greatly. Only because I am a massive GT fan did I disregard reviews and purchase it anyway.

However, for all the fans of GT out there like myself, would it really be worth missing out on the entire PS2 GT experience for 30 pounds? or whatever that converts to in US dollars. The answer is no, hell no. While the game disappoints in some areas the quality overall production and presentation is something of a rare thing these days, especially in racing games.

GTC is blessed with spectacular graphics which I do believe have improved over GT3. Plus you get to drive the classic and shamefully missing from GT3 circuit of The Autumn Ring, with it's excellent leaf effects blowing around in your wake as you pass under the trees.

On the handling front the only change that I picked up on was that the cars are much more keen to follow a straight line, not constantly turning from one side to the other as they did in GT3.
A slight change but a noticeable one that takes adjusting to when switching between GT3 and GTC.

As far as the tuning part goes, I'm sure you are all well aware that tuning is impossible in GTC. However, you can set the cars up and put them of softer or harder racing tyres. But I looked at GTC as a so far unique oppurtunity to test all the cars on a totally level playing field, as they left the factory, and I did not adjust their settings for that reason. After all, isn't the whole point to playing a game with a multitude of licensed cars, to create a sensation as close to the real thing as possible?

My advice is to buy it as soon as it is available to you.

THanks for the review Sinbad.

Here's to hoping it gets released here in the states. Something needs to happen between now and the release of GT4 and GTC sounds like the perfect thing to tide us all over.

If it ever comes out in the US, which i hope it will.;) One question, do the AI still drive like retarts or are they actually smart?:p

The section of PD that programs the AI need to seriously stop smoking weed.  Wonder how bad the AI will be in GT4? It seems to get worse over the GT's because PD's guys smoked more and more weed as the years went on.;)

Have you actually played GTConcept?
Well I have played 2001 Tokyo (Japanese) and 2002 Tokyo Geneva.

In 2001 the games AI is even worse, yes worse even in ace mode you can blow away the competition and the handling is very easy. 2002 on the other hand (the Pal release) is allot tougher, the cars even outbrake you through the corners sometimes and they seem to do a bit less ramming, the handling seems a bit drift friendly though.

Seriously, could you have posted anything dumber than that?

I agree with Race Idiot on that last statement, you havem't even played GTC so you can't really say that...but the PAL version of GTC is okayish...a little better than GT3.

I guess it is too late for GTC to be released in USA because the media is already covering GT4. Therefore, as I still want the GTC Tokyo-Geneva, I guess I will have to get the PAL version. Can someone tell me where I can get the PAL version and have it shipped to USA. The few web-sites I tried refuse to ship internationally.

GT4 will be released this fall in the states (and I think everywhere else). I read about it in PSM (forgot what month). IMPROVED AI and over 500 cars and alot of tracks (50) and online play. They had a working demo at E3 and everyone went nuts over it :)...
