I love the concept of the new GT:TV that will be out for GT5 but I am wondering if they'll allow us to watch in-game racing like Gotham TV or Forza TV? I'm interested in the real life racing events and will be watching a crap load of them whenever they get uploaded but I'd also love to be able to watch some actual GT5 races as it's happening or the featured races on GT5. I think this would be a pretty big hit if PD doesn't mess it up like Turn10 did with Forza TV.

Also, will these real life races be free downloads or will we have to pay a premium to watch these racing videos? I haven't read anything or seen any videos on if these videos on GT:TV will be free or not and was just wondering.

I'm hoping the final build will have an option to watch GT5 races as it's happening. Sometimes I just sit infront of the TV and watch people race on Forza 2 when I'm too lazy to play.💡

i hope they have the latest best motoring international vids on there. or translated clips from best motoring :P

I also hope they would have live coverage of the D1 Grand Prix and the Super GT Championship as well as the other programs..... :D

Actually, based on the videos I've seen, it looks like Best Motoring (so far) is one of the more plentiful shows on GTTV. Other ones i saw in a video were SuperGT, which is JGTC, and a couple of manufacturer promos, as well as a D1 Grand Prix drift trailer.

But yeah, as mentioned by quiet storm, watching other races would actually be pretty fun as well.

I like the idea of GT:TV very much. I suspect you'll be able to watch GT5 races for free and live. But a lot of other content may well be charged for :(

We'll have to wait and see.

-> I hope GT TV could do or offer more than what they presented on that demo at TGS. I really do hope that non-english format shows like BMI and Super GT to feature subtitles same goes to these non-english TV shows:

- Motorsport Mundial (GER)
- Auto Motor und Sport (GER) +a definite must!+
- JDM Option (JPN)
- Car View (JPN)
- Old and New Car Manufacturer videos (Global)
...etc

-> And some english-supported shows like from:
- Motorweek (USA)
- Fifth Gear (GBR)
- Wheels.tv (USA)
- Auto Review (PHI)
- Motoring Today (PHI)
- Old and New Car Manufacturer videos (Global)
...etc

^ If they deliver some of this, GT TV will be the shizz!

I hope it's free. They can just put ads at the beginning and/or end of videos to make money.

This maybe the best idea that Kaz has ever come up with.

EVER.

I'm excited because I can play games online (*finally*) and I can't wait to see racing series from other countries.

Screw what I said above, this maybe the best idea EVER in a racing video game.

Do you guys agree?

I think it'd be cool. Sorta like the Speed channel without having to pay for cable. 👍

I'd like to see some other people racing in realtime. It'd a good change of pace.

JDM Option is actually the English/Intenational version. Japanese version is simply "Video Option".

Grand Prix
I hope Top Gear is included. Need. More. Clarkson!

:) hoping it's also available in HD format

I would hope they cost money; that'd be a really bad business model to charge nothing for things that usually require payment (BM DVD's, etc).

I'd assume it'd be something along the lines of iTunes price-wise, which is definitely reasonable.

IF they do charge a fee, I'd want to be able to download and keep the videos on my harddrive. I just want them to be reasonable with this so it'll take off and get really popular. If they charge too much then not enough people will watch the videos and there will be no point for them to upload them and the whole idea will go down the drain. Kind of like their idea of "microtransactions" when they first introduced GT:HD.

Mostly, I really want to be able to watch other online GT5 races via GT:TV just like you're able to watch online races in Forza 2 and PGR3. :)

My thoughts on this are that I suspect the manufacturers' videos that you can view from dealerships are free. I mean, I can call a local dealership and they will mail it to me. Basically it is an ad for their car.

As for other content, I wouldn't be opposed to paying. Hopefully race events and shows such as Top Gear would be kept separate, depending on price. If it is cheap enough I will take it all, but if it is expensive I would rather pay less just for actual events. Also paying less to get only certain events could be nice too. This could be great as my wife and I go back and forth on getting digital cable just so I can watch Speed, when I know that what will really happen is she will spend twice as much time watching Lifetime Movie Network or something.

If I can pay less than digital cable, or can just purchase certain events, it will give me what I want from Speed without the pain of waiting for NASCAR to end or having to see my wife crying at the end of every Lifetime Movie.

The real question is, if they charge, will it be a subscription fee or will it be a per unit basis? Per unit will cost more in the end if you want to see everything, but if you are like me and truly just want to be able to see things like 24 Hours of Le Mans then it would be a deal.

Personally I wish it would be free and advertising supported, but somehow I have a feeling that Speed and other race specialty channels would be opposed to that.

If this catches on in racing games imagine what kind of TV content can go into other sports games. Imagine buying Madden and getting to watch some of the greatest games in NFL history. Or a Fifa game and watching a classic World Cup match. This has the potential to make fans of sports that weren't before. I know NASCAR fans that play Gran Turismo casually, but then are shocked to find out Nurburgring and Le Sarthe are real tracks and the 24 hour races are real racing events. They then quickly follow up and ask how I can watch something like that without getting bored. My dad constantly tells me that my sports car racing is boring because of the lack of crashes and people winning by whole laps. He quieted down a bit after this year's Sebring, and my comments that real drivers avoid crashes when possible. Imagine getting people like that into Super GT or Le Mans.

I have a lot of hope for this and I imagine that just as Photomode slowed my progression through GT4 down a lot this will do it even more. Perhaps it will make GT5 more interesting for a longer period of time and PD will have more time to develop GT6 without being constantly hounded by Sony and the fans to hurry it up. When Forza fans are telling me about Forza 3 I will most likely say, "Sorry, I don't have time to play it because I am busy watching a Super GT race in GT5 and then afterwards I want to race the course in my favorite car from the race."

Speaking of Forza, my biggest hope is that if other games follow this kind of feature we don't start having exclusivity battles. If that happened I could imagine Super GT in GT games while ALMS is in Forza games. Then I would be forced to choose between my favorite game or my favorite series. I buy games based on games and I don't want to have to start examining their TV content to determine if it is worth it or not.

So much to think about and the possibilities for this are excellent. However it plays out I will be excited.

Fingers crossed for 100% free content.

^ Why will Speed channel bother about GTTV? Since Speed has become a NASCAR Central Network with NHRA Primetime on Saturday Night, yee haw! :indiff:

-> I bet GTTV would be a great catalyst to other race series that are not familiar to some certain countries like USA. I'd like to see those Aussie touring car (it has been 12 yrs since the last time), FIA Truck Series (6 years), German DTM (3 yrs), and Motorsport Mundial (4 yrs). :ouch:

Because things like 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Daytona, and Petit Le Mans are Speed broadcasts. Speed charges a subscription fee AND has to have advertising. So, unless PD has their own film crew handy they will have to buy righst to the video from Speed.

Now, other things, such as all the other non-NASCAR racing in the world that Speed doesn't cover they probably wouldn't care about.

Well honestly, I don't think Speed would care how Polyphony got the money they used to pay royalties to them. So it's kind of up to Polyphony. They can make all the content on GTTV free and ad-supported (which I think would be the way to go), they can charge users for content, or they can both have ads and charge if they wanted to make a profit themselves.

Unless not charging for GTTV would cause Speed to lose subscribers and viewers to a point that they actually lost money in the deal. Contracts for these kinds of things can get complex sometimes as both sides try to find a way to make money.

It could be something as simple as Speed raising the cost to PD so that PD must charge, or Speed even saying that GTTV must have a charge associated so that it's non-competitive. Or It could get complicated in that Speed refuses to allow American audiences access to their coverage but will take royalties for audiences that normally wouldn't have access to their coverage anyway.

It will definitely be interesting to see how it plays out.

Gran Turismo TV Revealed!
Posted on October 15th, 2007 on GTchannel
By now you've already read our news on GT 5 Prologue Release Date and Free Demo. Just as we expected, more and more information the new Gran Turismo for PS3 is slowly leaving Sony HQ. We've learned even more about the upcoming downloadable demo, but more importantly, what will make it into the final game.

Sony's production team has been making the rounds at different automakers, that's nothing too earth-shaking, but the big news is that Gran Turismo 5 will finally inject some personality into the series. We confirmed that the team is hitting carmakers and interviewing key individuals at Ford, Audi, Nissan and other firms for on-camera footage. These interviews will be used in Gran Turismo 5 as bonus footage about the world of cars. Think of it like Special Features or Deleted Scenes you'd find in a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc. This is without-a-doubt, what Sony has been touting as Gran Turismo TV.

How do we know this? We caught 2007 Formula D Champion, Tanner Foust, being interviewed on-camera by a production crew with Gran Turismo 5, in HD, running in attract mode. It's a bit strange seeing the GT camp breaking out of its shell and diving into a more tuner-ish world, but we're positive that this isn't the last drifter Sony plans on interviewing. From the sounds of it, Sony is busy breaking out of the stale mold and taking it to the next level.

GT Channel was also able to squeeze a little more information and confirm that the downloadable demo coming soon is actually something different than what was shown at Tokyo Motor Show. Our source wouldn't tell us what, but it will have some features that weren't shown back at TGS.

Again, Tokyo Motor Show is a week away and Sony has big plans on the 24th. We'll be on-hand at the show to catch a glimpse of exactly what's going on.

Check the video below, Tanner Foust hangs out near his Memphis Audio trailer while the Sony team preps to conduct a Gran Turismo TV interview. The GT4 seat and rig are there just for show, but Sony is indeed doing one of many interviews we'll see within the game as Gran Turismo TV. This is only but a single aspect of GT TV, some of the released screens, like the one shown above will use real footage from sources like GT Channel's own Best Motoring.

They need to put BM's Hot Version into GT-TV. Thats where touge races are shown which inspired the anime Initial D. Hope they have some form of touge type races in GT5 as well.

^^^Point to point races like Kaido Mountain in Forza 1 would be very sweet in GT5!!! I was very disappointed when they took it out of Forza 2.
