My favorite road course in the game, and a track that I've won 2 championship races at and never finished outside the Top 5 or scored below 250 points in a Championship race at? Should be a recipe for good results, right? Well...
Slot 1: Qualified 13th in a split with 4 Supras with a 1:47.2. Lost a couple spots back to P15 as I got held up with someone almost losing it at the exit of T1. Made a few of those spots back as a few people made mistakes or just completely died. Ended up with
@Geauxgreddy behind me for a few laps giving me a bump-draft, and I'm not entirely sure he was aware of just how slow the Corvette was, but I was gonna use all the help I could get!
Eventually he got around me and easily walked away, and ultimately I finished P10 for 219 points - by far my lowest score ever at Daytona Road Course, which I definitely wasn't satisfied with.
Slot 2: Had the lap of my life and somehow qualified P6, ahead of 2 of the 6(!) Supras in the race that only had a total of 13 cars...finished P9 after getting 4 track limits penalties at the chicane (the sunrise made it hard to differentiate between the track, curbs, and grass and messed up my turn in, which messed up the rest of the chicane for me)... The 220 points would've been my worst ever score at Daytona RC...if it wasn't for the previous slot.
Slot 3: Qualified 9th this time in a race with 5 Supras and 2 Pug VGTs, as well as a Ford GT. The Ford, 4 of the 5 Supras, and both Pugs qualified ahead of me. I grabbed P8 immediately from the Pug directly in front of me when he had a slow getaway at the start, then took 7th place from the other Pug the following lap in T1. That was the last I saw of the Peugeots. I did lose a spot back to P8 when a faster Lambo took the spot. I spent most of the race in a 3-way battle with 2 Supras for P6 (including the pole-sitter). Of course they easily kept ahead, but once they started having to save fuel, I was easily able to keep up. We each took turns at the front of our little group, gradually pulling away from the cars behind, but losing ground to those in front. The battle for P6 became P5 on Lap 19 when the Lambo that passed me earlier died at the chicane, then P4 when the GT that was way ahead ran out of fuel. I'd gotten in between both Supras and was hoping to have a good chicane to try to take 4th place from the Supra in front, but dirty air got me and I couldn't carry speed at the exit like I wanted, so I had to settle for P5 as the Corvette meat in a Supra sandwich, which was good for 255 points, so I finally got a Top 5 from the night, but this would still be my lowest ever performance at Daytona RC...if it wasn't for the first 2 slots.
On a related note, so far I'm the only Chevy driver in the Americas region to score over 200 points in a round, and the only A+ Chevy driver in the region as well...
