2022 GTWS Test Season 2 - Manufacturer Cup
Round 3 - interlagos - Gr3 - McLaren
Lobby A+ GT1

Slot 3 -
Missed the 1st two slots since I didn't get home until just before the 3rd. I was hoping there were still enough on for me to land in 2nd Split since I had a great car, but not alien pace. No luck, landed Door 15 of 16 in the top split. I qualified better than my free practice pace, so I was stoked! But, still started Q11. Had a great race though. P10 and 239 points.

Replay from last nights Interlagos race. One point of note for Interlagos, you can cut the right hand part of the Senna 'S' by a good car width and not get a track limits penalty for it, the pole sitter did this on numerous occasions, including when they were fighting back after multiple self inflicted spins and passed me. (Didn't matter as they crashed themselves out being a numpty and rage quit.)

Replay from today's meme race at Deep Forest. Had an 11 car grid, a 10 minute black screen when Qualifying was meant to run. Then qualifying minus 5 cars. Then the Audi which started P5 never moved off the line.

Highlights for my race. Getting a ripping launch in the Lancer to move up into 4th behind the three remaining meme GT-R's. Not getting lapped. And sharing a number of sheep related jokes in the lobby with the Camaro driver about the majority of the original field being in the meta car and following the herd.

A tip for you, I found out about this by accident, this may help you run qualifying with black screen. How? If you run into black screen, press playstation button, then click on the game tab again. This opens the menu you usually would access by pressing options button. Click exit from the black screen menu and you are back to the lobby menu. Then click on qualifying. That should sort it out, qualifying should work after that. I have done this once or twice, this method has worked so far perfectly.

It was the same for everyone. It's almost like the game forgets it's meant t load the next session and has to think (process) what to do next. It's certainly something that might work in lobbies. Not too sure about the "Official" races in Sport Mode though.

Thanks - I'll try to give it a go!

Just remember you would need to unlock sport mode and upgrade your DR/SR.

Also, I didn’t log in with this account before the 1million credits gift and I still go it. The account was created years ago so I don’t know if for recently created accounts you’ll be gifted the 1 million credits.

You have loaned cars regardless so you’ll have a gr4 and gr3 for free anyway to run manu, nations and even daily races.

I need more understanding around the GT1/2/3 leagues and how they matchmake within each individual league.

I'm an A+/S from GTSport at 65k driver score, but I lost my old account so I'm on a new account & had no data to transfer to GT7...that means I'm currently climbing through the ranks when I get chance to play, until I get back to the lobbies I'm supposed to be in

Right now I'm at B/S & I figured I'd enter the GT2 B/S league seen as it's only 8 or 9 races.

Obviously the racing isn't great because I'm qualifying on pole by more than 2 sometimes 3 seconds...& Then disappearing in the race.
Each race was a win in each time slot tonight... But the maximum points I got was only 81 & it only increased to 81 after FOUR clean race wins in a row from 69 (that's what I got for the first win).

The thing is, the maximum points on offer got the GT2 league wins at the top split is 150... But I don't get how I'm not in the top split for the GT2 league if my SR is maxed out, & my DR is constantly climbing in big chunks each win.

Assuming it's the same points system as GTS, do I have to literally get my DR into the 30K range (A) to guarantee I'll start in the top split for the remainder of the GT2 league?

If so it looks like I've got a busy week in dailies ahead of me 😐
Hey, so I wasn't referring to the difference between the leagues, I understand that perfectly.

The part I was asking about is the matchmaking within each individual league.

For instance, what is the main thing governing who I get matched with, within the GT2 league.

If my DR was 20,000 before I started tonight, & 30,000 Driver score = A... Then each win I have in the four sessions for tonight's event at Brazil presumably increases my Driver score by maybe 1000 per race (it depends on the driver score of the people in each race as to how much I take from the pooled points with each win iirc).

So after the 3rd race my driver score would be at 23,000 going into the 4th race.

So why in the 4th race am I still getting matched with the same people I raced the last 3 times instead of getting matched with people at 25,000 -29,999 Driver score (I assume that would effectively be the top split within the GT2 league).

I hope what I'm saying makes sense to you, my point isn't anything to do with why in in GT2 and not GT1, I'm well aware that's a conscious decision I made until the end of this mini season
The point I'm making is about the matchmaking that happens within the chosen league itself, & what is the primary dictator of who you get matched with... If it's DR, then the only rational conclusion I can come to is that my DR was at the very bottom of the "B rating" when I entered the tournament's tonight, & the 4 wins didn't increase my score enough to push me into the top end of B rating...so I guess I'll have to win a few daily races to push my DR to A, so that I can guarantee that I get matched against the top split people within the GT2 league.
At the moment calculating how much DR you gain or loose is all guesswork. If you are in similar rated lobbies you may only gain less than a few hundred DR.

There is also the fact that you are more likely to see the same people more often as the consoles are split so you will see a reduced driver pool to match from.

It was the same for everyone. It's almost like the game forgets it's meant t load the next session and has to think (process) what to do next. It's certainly something that might work in lobbies. Not too sure about the "Official" races in Sport Mode though.
It works in the GTWS. I posted about it (and made a thread with views but no comments) like 2 weeks ago....

Interlagos

Slot 17:00

Qualified 3rd.
Second lap disconnected due to connection issues.

Slot 18:00
Qualified 4th.
Haven't any practice (90% of times the usual), I just decided to begin race with medium tyres,
and then, see what to do later on.
At lap 4 I managed to pass to P2. At lap 10, while I was 1 sec behind P1 (Beetle), I went to pits for my tire change.
Came back in 6th. With some lads pitting, I've got the P3, but lost it for the player with the Beetle.

Finish positions:

1st - McLaren - No stopper
2nd- Beetle - S/S
3rd- Genesis - No stopper
4th- Jaguar (me) -
M/M

Cheers

Tomorrows manufacturer time trials are in the wet (even tho on the replay of the #1 time it was bone dry). Would it make sense to buy some inters?

Basically if you wait long enough in TT, the track dries itself out, that P1 time was 90 mins into the session so I'd assume at least quali will be wet so yeah get some inters

Euro slot 1

Laughable…… NOT!

Today we are stuck looking at the black screen with FINAL just prior to the grid walk.

Fairly accurate really as this is my last “testing” session for this debacle. I don’t have the DR/SR to spare to afford to keep losing it due to malfunctions. :indiff::banghead::banghead:

Pretty surprising and positive experience in the Nations today.

Decided to spurn the meta and have a go at tuning myself, to see if I could make the Camaro ZL1 into a relative competitor with some basic knowledge and a whole lot of guesswork.

Came out of Qualy in 8th and to me that was job done. Pretty pleased with it as it's hard to know during tuning if you're getting it right or completely ballsing it up, at least it is for me, and with everyone ahead in GTR's I didn't expect much from the race. Not least because this weeks Daily Race B often descends into a bash 'em up and it's who survives who succeeds.

Managed to get the tune to a great top speed on the straights and a solid acceleration. It wasn't beating a GTR out of those slow hairpins but it wasn't stuck there forever either. It was however on skates through the middle section, requiring constant input on the wheel to catch it slipping out and this is where those other 7 positions went in Qualy.

The race was surprisingly successful. About half the grid in GTR's, the other half in a mix of different beasts which was fun to see. I took advantage of early squabbles to slip into 5th and from there was able to maintain a gap behind, with a bit of luck. A German and an Austrian followed, both in GTR's, and watching the timing screen I could see both were outpacing me once they got some room, but then the order would flip around and their time back would drop to 2.5 / 3 seconds and then repeat again for another lap so their fighting was definitely giving me some breathing room.

They did catch me around lap 7, around the same time as I caught an NSX in front and a good battle commenced with them getting the jump in the turns but my being able to get behind them and inside for passes on the straights. The German did manage to get by, sneaking up the inside of the last hairpin, but the Austrian stayed behind despite a good slipstream run to the finish line.

Had fun with the tuning attempt, no idea if I just got a little bit lucky or the car was a solid choice overall, in the end a solid 6th and on we go with a little more confidence in this area of the game than I had before.

Very simple design for a tuned road car by @Racedemon72

Slot 17:00

Car Genesis G70. After knowing that would be a Nissan party for the bad obvious reasons.

Qualified 8th, behind a Mitsubishi and seven Nissans.
The standing start was quite nice, with everyone respecting each other on T1. 👍
Not much to say. It was a clean race from wwhat I saw. Well done folks.
I was in P6 from Lap 2 to Lap 7. A Nissan driver passed me and I got home the P7.

No way I repeat this race. Happy with P7 in a no Nissan car.

Cheers

Did the tune race and I’m so off the pace!
Used the 911 GTR 09 as I already had Soft tyres plus I tuned this up for the Porsche mission. Car was an absolute pig to drive. The back end was a bit happy. Final hairpin the car didn’t want to turn into at all.
Quali was P12 out 14. Pull out a 1.34 and the top drivers were doing 1.29s.
Race started and the car ahead of me didn’t even move so ended up hitting them. Made a few positions from the banger racing up front and then going into the hairpin trying to avoid another car I ended up spinning. Ended up last and managed to get back up to P12.
Not sure what happened in the race but I lost all pace. I was doing 1.38s average and I ended up a full minute behind the lead car.

My race was full of GTRs, 90% R35s, one R34 and 2 Ferraris and me in a 911. After the race I tried out the R35 in test mode and I was slower in this than the 911. Decided to cut my loses and just stick my first result.

So far no real lobby issues with test season 2. Straight into all the sessions tonight.
I went in with my M3 '07 which had served me well in the menu races. I dropped some mass (and refilled back to 1.4tonnes with ballast) and added a part to get her to just on the 494 BHP limit. I was nowhere near the front times but the car was working for me. That's all that matters.
Qualy was a mess with many GT-R's mucking around in the hairpin hoping for a slip or a gap. One even tried to go outside around the kink after the hairpin. Idiot!
Still qualified in P11 and first of the non GT-R's. Someone was complaining the GT-R was undriveable. Well you chose it buddy!
My launch was slow and I lost a place to a Corvette. However gained a place again due to chaos on the first lap. The Corvette was alongside a GT-R into the hairpin. They both tried to outbrake each other but outbraked themselves instead and both skated wide. 2 places thank you! Except the GT-R went straight past me again. They are rockets!
From there it was a lonely race where I gapped the Corvette and was left by the next GT-R by the same pace each lap. A couple ahead quit and I came home a happy P9 and was the best non GT-R or as I called it winner of AM class!

How do points work per round? Is there a link I can read to see how they are awarded? I completed two races yesterday including a win and my scorecard says 11 points. Meanwhile I'm reading people saying they're scoring 60s etc. How?

Also I'm guessing the Nissan Nismo is the cheat/meta car to drive tonight. 70% of races consist of them. I wish people would select cars for fun and variety instead of what's the easiest to win. I'm happy with my F430 2006 even though I'm getting absolutely smoked on straight line speed.

So 2 attempts at Nations cup

Attempt 1
After doing a few laps in TT mode I thought my GTO would be dialed in, guess I didn't get the meta memo, somehow got into the high 32. range to qualify 10th my worst so far, looks to be the advantage is in the gearing of the GTR, did what I could in the race to pick up a couple of positions but knew I'd be faster in a GTR NISMO....

Attempt 2
Brought a GTR, spent way too much on it, qualified 2nd with a high 30, decent getaway at the start with most of the field having a crash fest, so became 8 hot laps of trying things to get into the 29 range like the leader, got down to a mid 30 but happy with the 2nd...and a night off tonight

Attempted 7pm Nations slot tonight & it's stuck loading the race with the circle icon on the bottom right. Just as I though GT7 was getting its act together....

Ran a couple of manufacturers races (N24 & Interlagos) with no problems at all. It mustn't like having Irish representation in Nations races 😂

It’s worth waiting it out if you get stuck on the pre race loading screen. I probably waited 7-8 mins but it loaded in eventually. A few dropped out but still had a race of 13

Been having a much tougher time than in GTS in these championship events, I guess I am still getting used to the handling model or something. An okay quali in the meta R35 Nismo GT-R did a 1.30.5, left a few tenths and one place out there, P8

The race then, chaotic first lap as expected, got held up by some drivers going slow in t1 and almost got spun around twice at the tunnel, but somehow just barely survived and kept the car pointing straight, but down to P10. Next few laps a few drivers ahead either spun or had an incident, so I quickly jumped to P6 and managed to escape the chaos, I could hear them crashing behind lol. Could not quite catch the drivers in front so looked to be a cruise to the finish line the last 4-5 laps.

But at the start of lap 6, I started to notice a fast Belgian driver catching me up, gap from like 4,8 sec down to 3,1 sec on same lap. After that on lap 7-8 I just had to push more and take some risks, and I did two personal best laps in a row just when I needed that the most, in the end P6 by 1,7 sec margin, 1,5 sec from P5 and like 3 sec from P4. Could have maybe been in the fight for P4-P5 with a better lap 1, but still, 154 pts and P6, best result in GTWS races so far, so I take that. And could have easily spun in the tunnel on lap 1, had to countersteer a lot to save myself.

You get points based on driver rating and finishing position, as far as I am concerned, the formula/table for this has not been released. So if some score more points than you, it means their driver rating score is probably higher than yours.

Nismo GT-R was the meta car, this is a championship after all, so obviously most players use the best car possible, since they want to score as many points as possible.

I've already done a few qualifying laps for tomorrow in the Gr4 on the HighSpeedRing... and I'm very confident because my times aren't even bad. It will of course still be exciting how the weather on the track will be modeled tomorrow. I am afraid that if it rains a lot, the 4x4s could have an advantage.

The points available from each race are based on the average driver rating of everyone matched into your lobby, then scaled down by your finishing position. At the very top of the rating scale in the GT1 league it's common for the race winner to earn more than 400 points for that round.

Skinny McLean posted a chart showing how GT Sport calculated points in the championships a couple of years ago. So far GT7 doesn't seem to have changed anything.

I don't know why it bothers people so much that others choose the car that gives them the best opportunity to win. People are choosing to play the game differently than you do and that's fine. The fact that there is a meta car at different tracks is a fault in the BOP system not a fault in the people trying to win.

So the Nations Cup ended up with an actual car being fastest? I figured it would be the fully detuned Tomahawk S or the VW bus with the engine swap.

Slot 1: Qualified 8th after a 7-minute black screen before enough people disconnected for qualifying to start, but for some reason ran into an issue with either bottoming out or clearance issues between my front wheels and fenders that somehow wasn't a problem in practice, so every lap I got to the hairpin I had to practically stop and do a 3-point turn to negotiate it. I quit because there was no point driving like that, and I needed the time to get another setup together.

Slot 2: Qualified 7th and finished 6th but probably could've at least fought for 4th, but I somehow got a track limits violation on the inside of the first corner of Sector 2 (the right hander after the first tunnel), which cost me 5th place after I took advantage of someone having an even worse time at that portion of the track. Most of the race was spent fending off 7th, who stayed in my slipstream most of the race, and would almost always get through the hairpin better than me, but would never gain much on me down the straights. My 6th place was good for 250 points so I'm calling it a night.

Even with the reduced number of people allowed in each lobby, I still haven't raced with a full grid in weeks in either championship. In Nation's Top Split we couldn't get more than 14 people even before the inevitable disconnections, and after the disconnections there were only 12 people in my first attempt and 11 in my 2nd attempt. For me personally it puts a damper on things when, at least for Nation's, there's so few people competing that even when I finish "well" I'm actually in the bottom half of the grid in Top Split.
